I am a fan of books like this. It has a bit of everything - glamour, sex, murder, intrigue, secrets, lies and a decent storyline.

A vacancy has come up to house share with several other couples in the Hamptons, a very prestigious area, for the summer. Opportunities like this don't come along every day, so obviously when offered the chance, Jem and Dan jump at it. It's not until after they have accepted and arrived at the house that Jem discovers exactly why there was a vacancy.

This revelation, and a chance meeting with a well known author, lead her to accept a job assisting that author. He has an ulterior motive in that he wants to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of someone who previously shared the house with the other couples. Jem agrees to look into it for him, and very quickly becomes embroiled in something which could prove extremely costly for her.

Using alternate timelines the author allows us to follow Jem's story as well as that of Alice, the woman who died, and the events leading up to her death. As she gets closer to the truth Jem finds herself in danger too.

This is a story which flows well, kept me gripped, and has plenty of twists and turns throughout. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy.

This is a great summer read.

Jem and Nat have moved to New York for his job. She is not coping with the move so well and they decide to take a share in a summer house in the Hamptons. Together with Jem, the reader is transported to the life of the rich and famous as they "summer in th Hamptons". Jem, still not content with being a lady of leisure, takes on the job as personal assistant to Michael, a best-selling author.

The story has enough intrigue to keep the reader interested, there is a varied cast of characters for the reader to like and despise and the setting of New York City and the Hamptons provides the perfect setting for seducing those in need of glamour.

Great book. Brilliant plot and main characters. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Very enjoyable.

Likely to be a bit of a summer sizzler this one - some great characters thrown into a rich (in more ways than one) group dynamic, where secrets and lies hover beneath the facade of seemingly perfect lives.

I loved the setting, had a love/hate relationship with nearly all the characters, had a decent amount of uncertainty about where it was going and all in all a really really great Summer read.

Tasmina Perry was one of the authors I used to stalk on Amazon.co.uk so that I could get her fluffiest, smuttiest newest releases as quickly as possible. I loved her beach read boinkbusters so much that I was paying almost 3x the price (with the exchange rate) to get my hands on her books. Luckily she’s now crossed the pond so I can get my hands on her novels a little easier which is a good thing since I still love her as an author; just now she writes more from a mystery/thriller side of the summer blockbuster read.
What I loved: The Hamptons are always portrayed in books as a magical place where money grows on trees and the traffic is worse than L.A. so I’m a sucker for books based there, Nantuckt, the ‘Bu, etc. The back and forth from past to current day was great – and the twist at the end was a nice shock as well. And the smut scenes – definitely well written!!
What I didn’t love: I never really connected with Jem as a heroine – maybe she was too wishy washy, too mousy, too something for me that I was a little bored with her in the beginning. Therefore I never connected with her husband or Michael and kind of glossed over those passages.
What I learned: That the Great American writers of the 19th and 20th centuries are overrated.
Overall Grade: B
