Great read!! Hard Proof was a perfect mix of mystery & romance. I loved watching the feelings between Clara & Wayne develop, even during stressful situations. And the bond between Gracie & Clara so touching.

I love forward to reading the next book in the series.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Was a great book & I loved the hero in this book. I liked the heroine as well but I feel like there could've been improvement where she's concerned. She was just any other typical heroine to me. Other than that Debra Kayn did a great job and I look forward to reading any other books that she will write in the future! Thank you Debra for the opportunity and keep up the good work!

This novel was a Motorcycle club romance/suspense/thriller. All three of these are my favorite types of books to read however for some reason I couldn't get on board with this novel. Istruggled to connect with Clara and Wayne which isn't the usual for me.I felt like I should have been able to connect with the characters better considering the storyline. This is a great novel if you are more plot driven and love suspense. I would still recommend picking up this novel if you love a good natured group of characters and a great storyline.

This was not quite I was expecting for a motorcycle club story. Don't look for a hard, gritty outlaw group. This is a small group of 4 men. The fifth is missing in action. They are a group who look for the missing. Clara and Grace recently found of that there mother was murdered and that the person responsible was still at large with no leads. They heard of the Notus MC and decide to try to get close to them so that could ask for help. I thought they should have been straight forward and ask but that was not the plat. The character of Wayne was interesting to me. However, I didn't really connect with Clara. I think it had more to do with the the beginning of the book. The conversations the sisters had were a off to me. The romance is there and the there are some sexy scenes. There is plenty of mystery and suspense in the book. Not my favorite MC book but I do like a decent plot and this one was pretty good. I am interested in the missing "brother",

This book was AHHHH-MAZING!!! For starters like any MC book the romance was completely and utterly SWOON worthy but what really stood out for me was the mystery entwined in the romance. I was shocked when the story began to unravel, her mothers death, her stalker and how Wayne fits into the her life.

I recommend this book for anyone that loves a good crime mystery that covers the span of decades.

My Review of Hard Proof (Notus Motorcycle Club #1)
by Debra Kayn
My Rating 3 Stars
I’ve read many of Ms. Kayn’s books and have seen different elements in each of her MC stories and this one is another unique storyline. Notus MC is a different breed of Motorcycle Club than readers will be used to. I did enjoy this book but did find myself at times bored in the storyline. I believe this to be more from my own expectations than the writing or the story its self.
I didn’t feel the sexual tension from Clara and Wayne their relationship felt more like a deep friendship both of these characters each having past experiences that have left them guarded but I believe that’s what drew them to one another despite the deceit as to why Clara and Grace were there wanting their help. I believe this book was just so different from what I’m used to from this author that I felt disconnected to the story, But I recommend if you like MC reads that you grab this one and take a chance.

Hard Proof is not your traditional MC romance, but it's still pretty good.

Clara and Gracie are identical twins who move to St. John's, Oregon, and buy a bar (Vavoom's), with the sole purpose of hiring Notus Motorcycle Club to find who murdered their mother 24 years ago. The Notus MC is a club that seems to dedicate its actions to finding missing persons by searching on their own and aiding different organizations with their investigations. What Clara hadn't expected was to be attracted to Wayne Shaw, the Pres of the MC, and to become entangled into something with him.

I enjoyed Hard Proof for its sort of different take on the MC genre. It's steamy, but not nearly as raunchy as the usual, and yes, there's violence, but it's somehow not nearly as gritty as a lot of MC action. Then there's the fact that the MC itself is different than the usual MC. For one, it consists of only 4 regular members and 1 honorary (missing) member. There's no drug running, illegal arms, etc., in fact, I'd venture to say they're not really an MC, more like a group of friends, bonded by a long ago devastating incident, who get together and help find missing persons, and who happen to ride motorcycles.

I love Wayne and his friends, they're the main reason I rated this at 4 stars. They're all good guys with their own standout personalities. I didn't connect as much with Clara and Gracie, unfortunately. They presented as kind of bland, and not that nice, either. And then there's their whole stupid secret. I don't understand why it was such a big secret. If they had come right out and asked Wayne and his friends, I'm 100% sure they would have said yes and helped them, no biggie. So why they felt they had to keep their intentions a secret, thus ending up causing a lot of unnecessary drama, I don't know. Kinda silly of them. But, aside from that, I like Hard Proof. It's got 4 great guys with a noble cause, a little bit of steam, some action and suspense, and a nice setup for future stories.

Lets start off by saying this is our first read from this author and we really enjoyed our first time read by them.

Gracie and Clara are twins who lost their dad and a long time ago their mother to a tragic murder. Now they are back where they grew up to find out who killed their mother and seek revenge. They need the help of the Notus MC in order to seek revenge. Now bar owners they are hoping to get to know the MC members and to approach them with seeking revenge and to find out who was responsible for their mothers death.

Clara and Wayne hit it off very the very beginning and he is part of the MC.They have chemistry and made a really cute couple.
Clara I found her to be smart, sensitive, loving, and just an all around sweet girl even though she is not being entirely truthful.

Gracie her twin was more the quiet and keep to yourself kind of girl.

Wayne was loving ,kind, sexy, caring and another all around great guy.I loved how he and his men dropped everything whenever a girl goes missing. This is what their club is about ,helping others. One of their childhood friends sister went missing years ago and it still is a loss to all of them so the have made it their mission to help others.

This was a sweet romance with a bit of mystery with a great cast of interesting characters. The story got more interesting when the women are in danger a perhaps a target on whoever is currently hurting the women.

I loved that Notus and the police department work together on these type of crimes knowing that the department only had a limited reach. It was a nice change seeing the police not gunning for a club.Wayne and his MC Club brothers Glen, Thad and Chuck invest their resources in trying to find the missing women along with all holding down different jobs. You have to admire them.

I really enjoyed the story cover to cover and it had enough romance, mystery, sex,to keep you interested and turning the pages.

It was easy to connect with the characters that we read about they were like-able as well as love-able.This was a MC story that is lighter then most MC reads I have read . It was not as hardcore as most are but, interesting enough to keep you engaged and wanting to continue reading the other books in its series.

5 stars from us

Revenge is an act of passion; vengeance of justice. Injuries are revenged; crimes are avenged. - Samuel Johnson

I liked the premise of this story. I tend to enjoy books about vigilante justice (bloodthirsty at heart, I guess). But I came VERY close to not getting past the first few chapters of this book - and that is not a common occurrence for me.

This book needs some heavy-duty editing assistance. Grammar mistakes, spelling mistakes, sentences that make no sense - I became very frustrated just trying to figure out what I was reading. There isn't a publisher listed in the book so I am guessing it was self-published. Huge mistake. The author should have at least paid for some expert editing/proofreading expertise. And the strange thing was that the last part of the book didn't contain all the errors that the front half does. That was what kept me reading.

The story is about Clara and Gracie, identical twins, 29 years old, who move back to a suburb of Portland, Oregon and buy Vavoom, a bar. They have discovered that their mother was murdered there when they were young and they want to try to find the killer. Or actually they want the Notus Motorcycle Club to find the murderer and "take care" of him.

The characters of the sisters and of the members of the Club are fairly well developed and I ended up enjoying the story more than I originally thought I was going to. This is the first book in a series about the Notus Motorcycle Club but it doesn't end on a cliffhanger, which I appreciated.

There is romance in the story and some explicit sex scenes so be forewarned.

I received this book from the author through Net Galley in exchange for my unbiased review.

Wayne Shaw is one of the founders of Notus MC, an MC not far from Portland Oregon. They aren’t really a traditional MC, they spend their spare time trying to locate missing people. Shortly after their father’s death, Claire Nelson and her identical twin sister found out that her mother was murdered when they were little and that it had went unsolved. They decided to move back to her hometown and hire the Notus MC to solve the old crime. She just wasn’t counting on her attraction to Wayne.
THis book wasn’t bad. It was the first I read by this author. The plot was pretty well laid out. I liked both characters. I really liked the building chemistry between them. I liked the serial killer’s snippets. I had some issues with it, hence making it a 3.5 instead of a 4 or 5.
Issue 1-the MC. Since the Notus MC consisted of five childhood friends that grew up together. They hang out at Wayne’s home and solve crimes. They don’t accept new members. The only real connection I saw to an MC is that they ride motorcycles and wear vests. Not a huge issue, but if the series is branded as an MC series, it should have certain MC elements to it.
Issue 2-Why the subterfuge? I didn’t know why the girls couldn’t just ask Wayne to look into their mother’s murder right from the beginning when he tells Claire what they do. It made for unnecessary tension and had Gracie acting more like Claire’s mother than her twin sister in regards to Wayne. There were some other small things but nothing that actually ruined the book. Overall it was a decent read.

Hard Proof is the first title in the Notus MC series. This was my first time reading anything written by Debra Kayn, but I quite enjoyed this title and I am sure I will be on the look out for future titles in this series.

The Notus MC is a unique MC romance, in that it revolves around five men who form an MC, in the aftermath of a tragedy that affected their close knit group.

I thoroughly enjoyed the elements of intrigue and suspense, that flowed throughout the plot. The connection between the hero and heroine wasn't all that intense, and at times some of their behaviors were a bit on the frustrating side. I found the character to be strong, loyal, and overall endearing. As a twin, I really enjoyed that facet of the story line and could relate to the connection between the characters.

Overall an engaging and entertaining romantic suspense and MC romance, and I will look forward to the release of future titles in the Notus MC series.

Really enjoyed this book and the characters were very likeable

Expectations play a major role in the enjoyment a reader experiences with each story they read. I anticipated Hard Proof would be based around a Motorcycle Club, with all the usual testosterone leaping off the pages. What I encountered was a suspenseful story about two women who sought the support of vigilantes. The Notus MC were men who achieved results where the police couldn’t.

I enjoy reading the author notes at the end of a book. It’s a great way to put your emotions in check and make the connection between the creator and your experience. It’s here where Ms. Kayn discusses presenting a different kind of MC, which went a long way to answering my concerns. Unfortunately, certain aspects I consider essential for a book in the MC genre were not present to the degree I expected.

First and foremost is brotherhood and club time. Secondly the structure of the MC is based on there being a: President; Vice President; Sergeant At Arms; Road Chief; Patched Members and Prospects. A quick count of the minimum of the positions I could recall would suggest at least 8-12 characters are required to bring an MC story together. The reason for the Notus MC having limited members was explained but I missed the extra drama having a larger cast of personalities provides.

The Notus MC consisted of Wayne and the four mates he considered brothers. One guy had been absent for years, so realistically four men in total formed the club. They all came across as nice guys, who earned an honest living and worked in their spare time solving crimes. Their call to fame was they were vigilantes driven to protect their community from hideous crimes, especially those against women. A highly commendable stance, but it could have worked just as well if the guys were straight out private investigators that happened to ride motorbikes.

When I read, either music, gifs or subtexts subconsciously enter my headspace. Early on in this story the first one to jump to mind was “Today’s show is brought to you by the letter B (Biker) and the number 7” (it’s mentioned). The result being my thoughts ran interference between concentrating on the drama and suspense I was anticipating.

As I was amusing myself with flashbacks to childhood television, the alternative chapters began to introduce a sinister angle, slowly obscuring my humorous deflections. I was pleased to discover I was wrong in my assumption as to who was causing the mayhem and glad the story wasn’t as predictable as I imagined. It wasn’t until I was well over two-thirds into the story did I find my focus. By this stage though the sentiment of missing the biker read I had hoped for was firmly in place.

The plot was sinister, but I lost faith in the rationale of the methods in what was being pursued and the entertainment value of the men they sought assistance from. There were aspects to the investigation that just didn’t add up.

Losing my connection and respect for what the twins had sought out to achieve impacted on the romance within the story. The romance wasn’t instant, nor was it drawn out but when they got together I didn’t embrace the chemistry supposedly brewing. Hard Proof while not the structure I look for in an MC/Biker romance would be one for readers who prefer a gentler tale will appreciate

This is book 1 in the Notus Motorcycle Club series. First of all, this is not really what I would call a “motorcycle club” but just a club that has 5 friends in it who ride a motorcycle. Wayne, Glen, Chuck, Thad and Rich grew up together, rode motorcycles and started their own “club” after getting permission from the local 1% motorcycle club. They had run the streets together since they were 6 years old. They stayed firm friends until Rich’s sister was kidnapped and later found dead. Things changed then for this group of friends. Rich left and the rest have been trying to find him ever since. Now it’s 22 years later, Clare and Gracie have moved back to town. Notus is now helping locate the missing people in town. Clare and Gracie want to hire them to find the man who killed their mother so many years ago. This is a very good book and will keep your interest from start to finish. Just remember that it’s not your typical MC book, it’s more of a search and rescue effort, and you won’t be disappointed. I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy that I received from Netgalley.

As much as I wanted to love this book, it didn't work for me at all. I struggled to connect with Clara, which wasn't good at all. What ended up being the final nail in the coffin was how the missing person's investigations were handled. In law enforcement, there is a protocol for when someone goes missing, especially if there is foul play suspected or a child is involved. None of this was implemented and it colored the way I looked at the book. I finally gave up and ended up DNFing it.

It's worth mentioning that this is a different kind of MC book, the Notus MC has just five members, five boys that grew up together, experienced life, love and tragedy together. The tragedy was too much for one of them, Rich he left and hasn't been heard from since.
The boys grew up and formed their own MC which has only five members, well four and one honorary, ready for when Rich returns.
I liked the idea of the small MC, their history and their purpose I also liked that Wayne became president because years before he'd been the one to walk down the street and ask Thad if he wanted to play.
Clara and Gracie are identical twins from St. John's Oregon, after the death of their mother when they were just five years old they moved away. The death of their father years later brought forward information that he'd kept a secret box in a town for more than twenty years after they'd moved. They discover that their mother hadn't died from natural causes as they'd been led to believe but she'd been kidnapped and murdered twenty-four years ago.
The girls can't rest, they need to know what happened and they need to know that someone will pay for what they've done and so they move back to St. John's and a buy a bar, a bar they know the Notus MC hang out at.

There was a lot about this book I liked but as a whole I didn't like it anywhere near as much as I'd expected or hoped.
I liked the MC and it's members and I loved Wayne.
I'm not sure I felt any real connection or chemistry between Wayne and Clara but that could have been because she was keeping things from him.
I never really bought the whole 'secret' either. As soon as Clara felt any real attraction for Wayne she should have come clean and explained they wanted help finding the man who'd murdered their mother.
Also I hate it when a conversation needs to take place but keeps getting delayed and delayed and delayed for a variety of reasons. I don't know if it's just me but this really annoys me.

#### SPOILERS ####

I also didn't buy the we're done I can't live with what I asked of you, oh it wasn't you that's ok then

Then she goes to the police and tells them Wayne killed the kidnapper but he's innocent because he only did it because she'd asked and paid him to do it?

"I needed to tell the police it was my idea to kill the man who took Gracie and that you were innocent. That I'm the one who asked you to kill him."

Talk about TSTL.

Also...

"I need to put the order in with Paxton before he shuts down the kitchen..."
After getting Wayne's order into Paxton before he left and dealing with the customers .......The next hour went by fast in their hurry to close the bar.
......... "Let's go before Wayne's food gets cold."

Just how long does a burger and fries stay hot for them?

I know, I know I'm picky.

I liked the book. I love the relationship between Gracie and Clara. They were so connected in a way I hope twins are. My heart broke when Clara was feeling the absences of Gracie. Wayne I loved him. He carried so much on his shoulders. He felt all the pain for the victims. I was glad when he found Clara because she was his Oasis. She let him can't or was just there. What I didn't like was that we really didn't really learn much about the kidnapper. I just wanted more but hopefully Gracie would get her own book and we will learn more. *Wink, Wink*.
