I would normally love books that show kids caring about animals, but someone needs to step in and tell this child to leave that poor cat alone! I feel like the story was trying to be humorous, with the little boy mistakenly thinking the cat was sad, and thought at the end it was going to end with "Oh! My Cat was just SLEEPING." But instead the kid just kept bothering the cat more and more, even when it was giving off clear body language it did not want to be bothered. Maybe I'm being a bit finicky because I rescue cats, but I would not use this to teach my child how to read or interact with animals.

Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy.

Love makes the world go around.
This is a simple picture book encouraging empathy for animals and both my young grandchildren loved it. It can sometimes take a few reads for young children to identify with a book but this one had instant appeal.

The little boy in the book obviously loves his cat, but he's sure that it needs cheering up. He tries all the things he thinks might work, but nothing seems to help - until he decides that what the cat needs is love. Clear, easily understood illustrations by Brenda Ponnay, add to the simple narrative.

There are currently three other books in the series: My Good Dog, My Cat, my Dog and My Cat is Fat.

A very simple easy reader about a little boy trying to cheer his cat up. He tries to keep fed, and watered, and even clean. But nothing makes the cat happy. A great book for beginning readers.

I liked this book! It's nice to find a book that has empathy for animals in it. I'd read this to a small child being prepared to deal with a cat.

'Il mio gatto è triste!', pensa il bambino del micio arrotolato sul pavimento.

E allora, perché non svegliarlo?

E fargli un bagno?

E presentargli quel simpatico, scatenato cagnetto?

Divertentissimo volumetto che illustra le incomprensioni facili a nascere fra un bambino volenteroso e un pacifico felino - prima che l'amicizia trionfi.

Almeno fino al prossimo sonnellino. XD

This is a really simple story about a young boy trying to figure out why his cat is sad. He tries lots of things like feeding him, bathing him, putting him to bed etc. only to find out that he just wants to be loved. There is a lot of repetition in the text which makes this a good book for beginning readers to read independently as well as for a read aloud for toddlers. The illustrations are large, colourful and simple which makes them attractive to young children. My grandson, who has a cat, enjoyed the story trying to figure out why the cat was sad. A cute book for a family library as well as a primary classroom where they are learning to read.

I sincerely hope that the physical book is better than the digital download because it was not very good. There were not a lot of words and the story wasn't very good. I think it would much much better with illustrations but there were none included in this. I love cats, and kids love cats but there need to be pictures to represent what is occurring and it's a kid's book, can't it have a happy ending with the cat not being sad anymore?

This is a simple book that is excellent for young children and early readers. The illustrations are quire repetitive and simple but they do support the story and the content of the book. The story is about realising that sometimes you can't make someone or something happy, but you can still love them without that.

For the age grouping that this book is for the art and storyline are perfect! Children that age love to play, care for and unknowingly antagonize their pets but it is all in love--this story shoes that.

What a lovely story! Short and sweet with large text and short sentences suitable for very young readers, the illustrations are simple and revolve around a young boy, and (as the title suggests) reasons his cat might be sad. It pairs up adjectives with verbs, such as when the cat is 'dirty', the little boy recognises that he needs to 'wash' the cat. I like the simplicity of this book, and think the other books in the 'my cat' range would be just as endearing.

This is a good early reader with simple illustrations that support the content. When the cat is sad, the little boy tries everything he can to make her happy. In the end, he realizes that sometimes you can't fix sadness for others... You can only love them through it.
