A beautifully written book. Denise takes us through her journey of immersing herself in God's Word and His faithfulness to her through her life. Scripture is put forth as she takes us through her past. God and His Word is for each person, and she encourages us to dive deeper into God's Word.

This book would be a great devotional book for any person, could benefit as a Bible study or small group study.

this book -as many others- is a book that guides you through the bible and shares inspirational stories to show the more personal aspects of those stories and the lessons one could take away from them.
I personally didn't love the tone the author used throughout the book since it felt a bit to preach-y for me but i am sure some people will love this book!

In "Deeper Waters", Denise J. Hughes shares how God's Word has shaped and influenced her life. By using details from her personal story, she illustrates the importance of reading your Bible often and how she found comfort in reading it. She also gives tips on how to read the Bible, explains different methods and provides a plan on how to read through the Bible in 365 days at the end of the book.

I really, really liked this book. Denise's story was very inspiring and I could often relate to her. She accomplishes to stirr a desire in the reader to dive into God's Word and become more familiar with it. Her style was also easy to read and very engaging. I found the plan in the back of the book very helpful to read through one's Bible in one year, too.

I would recommend this book to anyone who's wanted to get (back) to reading their Bible for some time or simply enjoys inspiring stories from real life.

Deeper Waters is a normal devotional. It starts off with Scripture verses, then it goes into a story that talks about the devotional and he talked in depth – deeper in depth than the original deep water. The stories are great and long which I like very much. It teaches you a few things along the way . It also makes you laugh, what a book.

I just can't say enough about this book. This is more than just a 'how-to' or a 'why-to' of reading His Word. This is, honestly, the first I've heard or read of Denise Hughes and I will definitely be checking out her Word Writer studies. I loved the look into her person journey with God, reading His word, studying His Word, and also her struggles with her faith because of life circumstances.

Denise talks about how important it is to spend time with God each day. Not only that, but she touches on 'first fruits' and starting your day with Bible study. It has challenged me to start my day a little earlier and spend time with God first. (I am a night owl so this will be new for me)

Denise also touches on the importance, as a woman, of surrounding yourself with other women who will invest in your walk with God so that you can be there for each other during the hard times. I know first-hand how important that type of relationship is.

I highly recommend this book!!!

Many thanks to Denise Hughes, NetGalley, and Harvest House Publishers.

Denise Hughes writes with a thoughtful, intelligent voice. She is a teacher, and I appreciate her organized delivery. She is also sensitive, so this book is rich with detail. Of the many books I’ve read this year, Deeper Waters is definitely a favorite.

Denise has a passion for God’s Word, but it wasn’t always that way. Even though she grew up in a Christian home, she didn’t develop a hunger for God’s Word until she was a young adult. She weaves in personal stories with honesty and grace. I loved hearing her insights.

She offers several different methods for studying the Bible, based on a passage in Ezra. Even though I’ve been a student of the Bible for decades, I learned some new things from Denise’s study suggestions. Something as simple as writing out verses to help them stick to memory. This is a simple yet powerful tip that I plan to do this week.

What has stayed with me the most from reading Deeper Waters are the ways Denise applied God’s Word to her life situations. Whether it was coping with her brother’s paralysis, dealing with divorce, or struggling as a new mom, Denise turned to God’s Word for help. She gave many inspiring examples of how to search the Bible for help when you are hurting.

Anyone who is looking to plumb the depths of God’s Word with a caring guide will appreciate Deeper Waters. I highly recommend it.

Denise takes you on a journey of faith as you walk through this brilliantly written book. We have questions, we doubt, we lack trust and Denise shows us how to turn to Gods word not only in times of troubles, but daily. It's about a relationship with Him and His word. Through her life story we share in her journey and at every turn you can relate to something in your own life. This book is life changing, it's warm, it's truthful and it's powerful. So hard to describe the feeling you get while you wait to turn to the next page. I am so looking forward to reading more from her. This book came at just the right time, in just the right place in my walk with God.

Deeper Waters

Immersed in the Life-Changing Truth of God's Word
by Denise J. Hughes

Harvest House Publishers

Christian

Pub Date 01 Sep 2017

I am reviewing a copy of Deeper Waters through Harvest House Publishers and Netgalley:

In this book we are reminded that: we are drawn by a voice of beauty. We are held by a voice of truth and that we find our path in life when we are listening to the voice that matters the most. It is pointed out too that we are on a journey not of perfection but progression to become more like Christ. And that God's Word is the only unchanging, eternal reality we can look too.

Denise J Hughes invites you to go deeper into God's Word, but she does so admitting she has had her own struggles.

We are reminded that just as he did in Biblical times God continues to transform lives. And they also point out the more time we spend in the Bible, the more familiar we become with God's voice. We are encouraged to give God the first-fruits of our day. We are reminded too that God will fill the empty spaces in our lives. We are reminded too that God is a God of Order and design.

This book reminds us that God's word is not just for Scholars, that it is for everyone! We are reminded too that the greatest heritage we can give our children, is a foundation in the Bible.

It is pointed out too that the voice of God never contradicts what is written in the word! A Bible Study doesn't have to be complicated. We are reminded too that God answers prayers!

We are reminded too that when we are immersed in grace and truth we find the path that leads us home. It is also pointed out that God makes it clear we'll be held accountable for what we have been given.

We are reminded too that we need to be both globally minded as well as locally minded!

I give Deeper Waters five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

From the very start of this book, what struck me most was how on every page, Denise Hughes' love of God's Word shines through.
The book is structured around the principles found in Ezra 7:10:
"Ezra had determined in his heart to study the law of the Lord, obey it, and teach its statutes and ordinances in Israel."
The four sections of the book encourage us, too, to determine in our hearts to make God's voice our guide, to learn to hear it by studying his Word, to obey what we read so that we not only grow in knowledge but are transformed in character, and to teach others to do the same.
The book is part Bible study, part memoir. It traces Ezra's journey from exile in Babylon back to Jerusalem, but also traces Denise Hughes' own journey of falling in love with God's Word and shows how it has impacted her at various points in her life. Along the way, she shares practical tips for engaging with the Bible and studying it.
I found this book very helpful. I appreciated the author's honesty as she shared about some painful situations from her life such as her brother's paralysis as the result of a car accident, and her years as a single parent following the breakdown of her first marriage, and I felt that the real life stories clearly showed the relevance of the Bible in the complexity of life today.
As someone who already loves the Bible, I found that this book sparked my enthusiasm even more. There are some wonderful insights about different passages of Scripture sprinkled throughout the book, which helped me look at them in fresh ways.
Whether you are new to exploring the Bible or it is something you have been doing for several years, I would highly recommend this book.

Denise is such a gifted storyteller. This book was personal and heartfelt. Her passion for the Word and her desire to unite women to share their stories is so powerful. She had so many practical applications to make studying the Word and hiding it in our hearts easy that I can not wait to implement her suggestions. By nature, I am not a morning person, but very much a night owl, after her explaining of giving our first fruits I have been inspired to read a psalms first thing in the morning before I do anything else. This is a book that I will recommend to every woman, regardless of her season in life.

Deeper Waters tries to show how it people can come to understand scripture more completely. I liked how the author used Ezra, someone I personally was less familiar with, to illustrate the point that writing out scripture is the best way to internalize it and copy it onto your heart. There was a lot of good advice about Bible study, both in quiet times and as a group.

The book is also heavily anecdotal and some things got repeated a lot. The author did a good job of tying these anecdotes in, but after awhile they just seemed extra.

Also, if you are a man reading this book, you can probably stop after chapter 14. I did not realize this book was directed specifically to women because the advice seemed sound for everyone, but starting from chapter 15 the author talks a lot about the need for women to meet and help each other in the community, and how she has worked towards that.

I particularly loved the collection of prayers from Scripture at the end of the book. I would definitely recommend this book, especially in discipleship type settings.

This book was biblically sound with some great advice. I think I struggled a little with the style of writing and found it a little hard to follow at times. I enjoyed chapter 9 "the prayers we keep" and also the authors life stories that were written and referenced throughout the book.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
