It was just supposed to be a means to an end. Carson has inherited a candy company from his biological father who he did not really know. In order to get the financial backing to keep it running, he became engaged to the daughter of a rival candy company. There is just one problem; they are ill suited to each other. In an attempt to renegotiate the terms to obtain the money, Carson mentions that he has fallen for another woman. Ella is the woman that Carson met at a friend’s wedding prior to getting engaged. When Carson calls her to ask her to be his fake girlfriend, she is stunned but ultimately agrees to drop everything to help him. Mr. Shaw, the owner of the other candy empire, is skeptical and demands proof of Carson and Emma’s relationship. However the original game changes and the question becomes will Carson and Emma go through with this charade? Is it really a charade? Shayla Black is the quintessential creator of realistic characters that you can’t help but fall for. Regardless of genre, the development of storyline and corresponding characters suck the reader into their world and makes one just want to stay forever. This is a feel good, happy, story that I wish would continue because who wouldn’t want to find their other half.
I volunteered to read an arc for a review provided by Netgalley.

'Misadventures of a Backup Bride' by Shayla Black is book Four in The "Misadventures" series. This is the story of Carson Frost and Ella Hope. This book is a standalone book.
Carson inherited his fathers business but it and he needs money to get it up and going again. When an investor says he will give the money if he would marry his daughter...he reluctantly agrees. But then he back tracks and says he can't marry the mans daughter because he loves another. So he is then told to marry the women he loves instead of the daughter. Carson doesn't have anyone in his live that can be a pretend girlfriend.
Ella is an actress that needs money so when presented the job by Carson she accepts to be his fake girlfriend to bride. But sometimes when you pretend it becomes real.
This was a fun read but also one that was a quick one. Really enjoyed it!

An easy romance to read. Ella and Carson really have great chemistry in this story even if the pacing is fast. The plot is a little silly and the motivations of the antagonist doesn't become clear until the last few pages but I enjoyed it. Fun read

Carson Frost's new company is in jeopardy after inheriting it from his father, and he had to as a last resort take a loan from his father's rival. Now Carson has two options to either sign the majority of company stake to his rival or marry his rival's daughter. The marriage option is the easiest as he would rather sacrifice himself for the sake of the company than let it be taken over. The thing is though that he has nothing in common with his rival's daughter and doesn't want to have to marry her if he can help it. When a conversation comes up and a possible way to get out of the marriage, Carson jumps into by telling her father that he is head over heels in love with someone else - that someone else is struggling actress Ella Hope whom he met recently at a friends wedding. Carson hires Ella to play his fake girlfriend then-fiancee, but what will happen when his supposed wedding date nears, and Carson finds himself in actual love with Ella? Will Carson eventually choose Ella over his company and prove to Ella he does love her or will Ella go back to her life and have memories of when she played the Back -up Bride for Carson?
Find out in Book #4 of the Misadventures series - Misadventures of a Back-up Bride by Shayla Black.

The series continues to offer surprises. It's fun having a different author and storyline with nothing connecting them so each can truly stand alone. In this installment we meet Carson Frost, who is trying to save his company from dire straits. Has he made a deal with the devil to get the company back on track?
Ella is the breath of fresh air who may be able to save the day. But will their plan work and create something lasting? Or will the devil take his due and leave Ella and Carson broken in the end...

Shayla Black is a new author to me and I have to be honest and say I read this book because I had really enjoyed a couple of the previous Misadventures books and after reading Misadventures of a Backup Bride I will be reading more from this talented author.
Carson has inherited his fathers company but it’s failing and it needs a cash injection and the on,y person willing to loan the money wants Carson to marry his daughter. To get out of the marriage Carson tells him he is already in love , the only problem here is he now needs a backup Bride and this is where Ella comes in....
This book had a great storyline, characters that are easy to like and no drama just an easy romantic read. Looking forward to more in the Misadventures Series.

Great quick and easy read. It's a funny love story that will give you a few laughs while reading.
A short story by one of my favorite authors about a scheming plan to prevent a marriage to a halfwitted 22 year old. But most plans never go as planned. It has just enough sexy parts to keep my interest. Not as much erotica that's usually in Ms. Black's books.
Thanks NetGalley and Waterhouse Press for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

4.25☆ This was an enjoyable, engaging story. That caught my attention early on and it stayed that way throughout. As both main characters Carson and Ella were likable, shared a spark and a few hot moments. However I didn't quite buy into how quick Ella and Carson fell in love and I did feel the story was a little rushed in places. But that being said it was still a good story. That was easy to read and extremely low angst, and I did think it was a good addition to the Misadventures series. Which is why I'd happily recommend this story to others.

I absolutely adored this story!
It held my attention from start to finish with it's fast pace. I enjoyed Carson and Ella so much. Their relationship and story is truly amazing!!
4 stars from me.

Carson inherits a candy company from his sperm donor father ... the only problem is he is cash poor for a few months. He makes a deal with a competitor to give him 5% of his company and he will marry his daughter in exchange for much needed operating cash for his business. But there is absolutely no chemistry between Carson and his intended bride. So Carson hires his buddy's ex-girlfriend (Ella) to pose as a love interest, so he can get out of the wedding. But things backfire when his benefactor changes his mind and tells Carson he can get out of the marriage to his daughter, by marrying Ella instead.
I like the steamy parts of a book as much as the next girl ... but that's all there is in this book. I found the story to be a little weak and far fetched. But I will say that Ms Black sure does know how to write steamy scenes!

I absolutely adored how this Misadventure story grabbed me from the beginning.
Carson will do anything he can to save his father's business, even if that means marrying the competitor's daughter who he seems to have absolutely nothing in common with. In order to try to save the company and NOT marry Kendra, he says he is in love with someone else, not expecting his nemesis to call his bluff.
What comes next is unexpected attraction and a determination to make the girl his forever. Will Ella and Carson be able to convince everyone that they are in love and save his business? Or will everyone involved end up with bruised and broken hearts.
Shayla writes a wonderful, unexpected love story that is both steamy as heck as well as endearing and funny!

It's been a long time since I've gotten my hands on a Shayla Black book, and I'll tell you right now, it won't happen again that I don't get my hands on a new book as soon as it's up for review! I loved the Misadventurers of a Backup Bride. It had a lot of quick whit, sass, humor, erotic love scenes, and a lot of very tender and caring moments between Carson and Ella. I loved this couple, and found myself pulling for them almost right off the bat.. Gregory Shaw was a creep, and I felt badly for his daughter. Even though you could tell which way the book was going, I still loved the outcome. Very romantic, sigh! Well written, a very quick read, very difficult to put down, loved it!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.

This is definitely my favorite of the series! I absolutely loved Carson and Ella. Carson is being forced into a marriage with a rival’s daughter. He confesses to loving another woman and then finds himself having to prove it. Ella is an actress but hasn’t found success yet. When the man she met six months ago calls to offer her a job she accepts. The money is a great motivator but the truth is she was and still is very attracted to him.
This plot moves along at a constant pace never getting old. Something is always twisting and turning as this couple try to decipher what they have together and how they might can make a relationship work. Everything boils down to whether or not they will actually say “I do”. The final twist was unexpected and, if not a little contrived, made me happy for everyone involved.
I was disappointed there was no epilogue but everything else was great. This is a fast read with a bit of humor, realistic characters that communicate, a little insta love, and some good old fashioned steam.

Another miss for me in this series. Another author that I’ve heard so much about and haven’t read. I did like this one a little more than the first two.
Carson Frost inherits his estranged dad’s confectionary company. However, the company is in financial disarray. In an attempt to keep his company going until he can work it all out, he agrees to marry his biggest rival’s daughter in exchange for the cash flow he needs. She is 10 years younger, immature and the more time he spends with her, the less interested he becomes. In an attempt to get out of the agreement, he makes up a woman he is supposedly madly in love with.
Carson met Ella Hope, an aspiring actress, months before, at a friend’s birthday party and remembers her enough to call her and ask her to pretend to be his girlfriend. She’s desperate enough for rent money to agree.
Shaw was such a pain throughout much of the book. This made his big overture at the end even more unbelievable.
The story is predictable. Found myself skimming parts. Carson’s use of “little girl” was irritating and annoying. I believe I am done with the Misadventures series.

“Misadventures of a Backup Bride” by Shayla Black is book four in the Misadventures series. This is one of my favorites of the series because of the wit, the humor and the emotional connection and the sizzling romance between Carson & Ella.
Carson inherits his father’s company yet the company is failing and he needs an investor to help him out. The investor who will help him and give him all the money he needs to prop his dad’s company up and get him back in the green, has only one demand in exchange for the money- He wants Carson to marry his daughter. Carson is like NO but he cant offend this investor so he quickly concocts a plan. He tells this man he is already in love with a woman ..The investor doesn’t buy this so he dares Carson to marry his supposed love of his life in two weeks’ time or there will be severe consequences.
Carson hires Ella to be his fake girlfriend and “soon to be bride”. This is a roller coaster ride because these two had an insta-lust relationship from the start which hyped up the story immediately because you could feel their attraction as you read the story. I adored Ella, she is a sweet and likeable person who has had a lot happen to her but does her best to push forward . Carson and Ella had this relationship that went from 0-90 mph immediately. It went from sweet to sizzling like that. They had this witty banter which added to the attraction and I really liked that. I felt bad for Carson because he was trying so hard to do the right thing for his dad’s company and he didn’t want to lose it but he also found he really liked Ella and he wasn’t sure what to do so he had this dilemma …who was going to lose out? I really enjoyed the pace of this story and the romance as well as the ending of this story. Shayla Black has done it again and written a perfect novella with “Misadventures of a Backup Bride.

What starts as a job turns into something more. Hot chemistry between these two leads to some hot sex scenes. A lie turns into real feelings, which eventually leads them to their happily ever after. I read this book from cover to cover. This was a cute story.

I'm a huge fan of Shayla Black and I was so excited for her to be a part of this series! Carson and Ella started off as a business arrangements, but it didn't take them long to stoke the flames that they both felt for each other. Their chemistry was off the charts and the way that they fell for each other was hot.
This was a shorter story and can easily be ready in a few hours. I enjoyed the story. The characters were great and the story held my interest. It was a good read.

QuickShot Review 3.5 stars
I liked it. A fairly standard fake relationship turns real trope, Ms. Black gave it a good amount of heat, reasonable-acting characters, and a legit relationship conflict (even if it’s resolved fairly easily). This is the fourth book in a series, but it works as a standalone. The little twists given to the tale by the secondary characters and the main antagonist gives this story a bit of soapy flair, which I wasn’t mad at. This is a easy little read for a Saturday afternoon and while it did tend towards the flowery prose on occasion, overall I did enjoy it. If light and steamy’s right up your alley, you may enjoy this.

I think this was my favorite Misadventures book so far...Shayla Black has always been a favorite of mine and this is another example of a great read. Carson and Ella were very entertaining ...I laughed a lot...shed some tears a few sad a lot happy. If you like cute, funny, and sexy books you will love this one.

Insta Lust, Insta Love
Carson Frost doesn’t want to be forced into an unwanted marriage in order to obtain a loan from rival businessman Gregory Shaw and so hires actress Ella Hope as his alternative love interest. There is sizzling chemistry between them from the outset but even so, neither are prepared for Shaw to back them into a corner and insist on their engagement four days after their first meeting. Will they go through with it?
