This was a fun, easy read for a summer afternoon. I liked Kenni, the Sheriff, and the town of Cottonwood. It was easy to picture the town and the people in it, where everyone knows what everyone else is up to thanks in part to the henny-hens. I love Poppa and how he comes back to help Kenni with the mystery in the story. The story kept me guessing about who the killer was, as well as laughing out loud in some parts. I'm looking forward to more great stories from Tonya Kappes!

Really like this series and the southern aspects of it... the way they talk (all those saying's,) the food they eat, the things they do, and let's not forget their loyalty! ;)

The characters are fun and... ummm... interesting. ;) There is a paranormal bit, but not the vampire and werewolf type. The mystery was suspenseful enough and there were plenty of culprits. There were a couple other scenarios/situations (aside from the mystery itself) that will undoubtedly lead us into future books.

This is book 3 in the series, but can be read as a stand alone (but you will get better understanding of the characters and their history if you read the previous books... at the very least, the first book (Fixin' to Die.) It is clean and safe for all ages. It is easy to read and can be read pretty quickly.

When famous author Beryle Stone dies it is leaked that she has written a tell-all book to be released upon her death. The manuscript is missing and someone is doing whatever necessary to find it, including murder.

Like all good mysteries this story has a well written plot that keeps you guessing until the end. But, it also has some great characters like Sheriff Kenni Lowry's mom who "knows no boundaries" when it comes to her daughter, Poppa's ghost who appears when Kenni needs help with a case and Duke the dog.

This is the third book in the Kenni Lowry Mystery series but could easily be read as a stand alone.

I absolutely love this series set in Cottonwood, Kentucky. It may seem like a sleepym rural, county town but things seem to be getting more and more interesting for Kenni Lowry. She is the current sheriff and has a new duputy. Her mother is truly a character and a force to be reckoned with . She also has the help of her Poppa, a former sheriff who is no longer among the living but shows up to help Kenni sole mysteries. A famous author from Cottonwood has recently died but a tell all manuscript is missing when all her possessions are set to be auctioned off and someone is not happy. So unhappy they are willing to murder for it to stay that way. Especially since former books are based on people in town. Things never seem to be dull. The characters and town are well described, and with each new book, readers get to know more about them both. The story is fantastic. The ghost of her grandfather is believable and realistic. I am always left waiting impatiently for the next installment in the series to come out.

Book three is the best in the series!
Secrets and twists kept me on the edge of my seat!
I love these characters and the small town setting.
I especially like the relationship between Kenni and her Poppa.
I cannot wait to read the next in the series. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Southern Fried is the second book in Tonya Kappes Kenni Lowry series, and it is just as delightful as the first.
From page one you are on a light hearted, if not campy wild ride full of twists and turns, and more than enough suspects to keep you guessing who dunnit. In that sassy southern style only Ms. Kappes can deliver.
I really enjoy Kenni as the sheriff. So many cozys have men in this position, it's a refreshing chaotic read a cozy with a woman as the Sheriff.
So if you're looking for a laugh out loud , sassy southern read, definitely check out Southern Fried.

Tonya Kappes has done it again with 'Ax to Grind' in her Kenni Lowry Mystery series. The entire cast of characters in Cottonwood, Kentucky, led by their intrepid Sherriff Kenni (with a little help from her grandpa's ghost), is charming and completely engaging. The mystery surrounding the estate of Beryle Stone plays out with one murder and a seriously injured townsperson. Solving the case with the help of her deputy Finn Vincent is one fun ride for readers. I can't recommend the entire series highly enough.

Ax To Grind by Tonya Kappes is the third book in the Kenni Lowry series.

This is a fun series and I love the mystery of why her poppa comes back at certain times.
Having poppa help her out while he is in ghost form is truly hilarious. How Kenni avoids speaking to him in public is beyond me.
In this story, a reclusive author has died and the town is full of gossip regarding her death and who receives all her money.
When family secrets are revealed, Kenni and her poppa are hot on the trail of the suspect.

I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

This is the third story in the Kenni Lowry series, and at this point I am totally hooked. The people of Cottonwood feel like dear friends, and I enjoy reading about the latest happenings.

This time around, Kenni, her dog Duke, her new deputy Finn and her Poppa's ghost are trying to find a killer who is trying to keep a tell-all manuscript from ever getting published. The story is well told, with plenty of action and suspense, along with just enough humor to take the edge off.

**I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher, with no expectation of a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.**

Ax To Grind is the third book in the Kenni Lowry series by Tonya Kappes.
Writer Beryle Stone dies in her home town of Cottonwood and she has supposedly left a manuscript full of Secrets. Obviously Cottonwood has lots of well kept secrets and someone does not want that manuscript found and published.
With the help of her deputy Finn and the ghost of her Poppa, Kenni needs to find the killer before someone else dies.
A fun, enjoyable read. I love the southern town of Cottonwood and the characters living there are intriguing and memorable.

Thank you NetGalley and Henery Press for the opportunity to read this book.
Thank you Tonya Kappes for another adventurous visit to Cottonwood.

One of the other reviewers states that this is an easy and relaxing read. Good description. It's not a complicated read so it's not terribly compelling. Kenni and Finn aren't the most exciting or interesting of characters for me either. I think this series is more for those readers who like to read a series that makes them feel like they "are coming home again". There's nothing wrong with that. I have read series that I wouldn't recommend to others as a great work in a genre because it provides me pleasure in it's familiarity and in visiting the characters again.

I would like Kenni to be a stronger character and work to be better at her job, though I think she has improved in this book. I would also like the character of poppa to be used better. He's really wasted as I mentioned in a previous review. On the plus side, I felt the mystery was more complex in this outing.

3.5/5

Ax to Grind is the 3rd book in the Kenni Lowry Series by Tonya Kappes. Sheriff Kenni Lowry is surprised and happy to see her grandfather’s ghost. She is not surprised because she sees his ghost but that she is seeing his ghost without a crime having occurred. His ghost usually does not appear unless there has been a major crime committed. She loves spending time with her grandpa even if he is a ghost, but she has her hands full with her re-election, her feeling her Deputy Vincent, and her mother’s “help” of dealing with both election and Deputy Vincent. When a body is found, Kenni has to put her feeling and everything else on hold until the murder has been solved. Can she solve the murder, enjoy working with her grandpa, and work through her feelings for Vincent without losing the election before it even starts?

I love this series. The characters are great and the setting is full of small town charm. Being a southern from a small town I can really relate to the characters; how everyone knows everyone and gossip is spreads like wildfire. I love how Mrs. Kappas writes her characters to be smart and witty and full of southern charm without being too over the top and stereotypical. I love the touches of dialect she includes this adds to the hilarity of the story. Although this is what I enjoy and can relate to, you do not have to be a southern to understand or enjoy this book.

The book is well written, great story line, full of twist and turns, and great pace. True to cozy genre there is no bad language and no graphic sex or violence. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a good mystery with a touch of humor.

Kenny Lowery strikes again with the help of her poppa, and sidekick/partner Finn. Another case of who done it in its finest. This book was so entertaining, funny, and leaves you suspecting someone new at the turn of each page. I recommend it to anyone that loves a good mystery, mixed with some humor. This is book 3 in the series, and while I recommend reading them in order, it is not a necessity. Can't wait for book 4.

This latest installment of the Kenni Lowry mysteries has it all - adventure, romance, danger, a recently deceased superstar writer, and a secret manuscript. Kenni and Finn find themselves embroiled in solving a homicide that has ties to secrets that have been kept for decades. If Kenni can't solve the crime, it will be nearly impossible for her to win reelection as Sheriff. The pressure is on! And then there is Finn... She needs to decide what direction her relationship should go with he handsome deputy.
This was a very satisfying read. Tonya Kappes remains at the top of my list of go-to authors.
Thank you to Netgalley and Henery Press for the ARC of this novel.

This is Book Three in the Kenni Lowry Mystery series. Sheriff Kenni Lowry has help in solving her murder mysteries, and not just from her deputy, Finn. Every time a murder happens in Cottonwood, her late grandfather's ghost makes an appearance. The great thing about it is he was sheriff before her. He can be funny and make you laugh a lot. Sometimes that might not be such a great thing since Kenni is the only one who can see him! This author has a way with her characters. They are very distinct and easily stand out in their own ways. I loved this book and especially loved the ending. Come on Book Four!

Kenni Lowery, the Sheriff of Cottonwood, Kentucky does not disappoint in this new instalment. This series just keeps getting better and better. I liked the comedic beginning. Kappes is very talented in injecting humor into her mysteries. The very surprising turn of events kept me turning the page. I also loved the romance sprinkled in. Look forward to more books in this series.

I was very excited for the third book in the series to come out and it was worth the wait. I read it in one sitting. I loved seeing the characters again. They are a group of entertaining bunch. Maybe a romance (or two) in the air- finally. The story kept me guessing. I really had no clue whodunit. This was a great story idea. See if you can guess in all the craziness. This book is a must read!
