3.5 Stars-Slow to Go

In this second installment of the Reckless Hearts series, we delve into Max and Collin's sister Lia's lives. Max is best friend to Collin, so you know it's going to go all kinds of wrong when he admits to loving Collin's baby sister. Let the games begin!

Right off the bat I liked Max and was annoyed by Lia. She had a chip on her shoulder from an incident in college. It sounded like a serious incident, however without many details from Heather Van Fleet, it was hard to understand the way Lia changed, attitude and appearance-wise. Max was a emotionally mixed up guy that is in love with his best friends girl, so like an idiot he turns himself into a manwhore to "F her out of his system". I HATE when the guy in a book does this, but is a sweetheart, super irritating.

The set up is clear, best friends sister, manwhore she needs to stay away from and the round and round goes on chapter after chapter. As much as I liked this couple, it was starting to get boring waiting for some action. At one point I was more interested in Gavin, the mysterious third friend to Max and Collin.

The book is well written, however very slow to make any real headway. While it's obvious what's going to happen with Max and Lia, we are given a few twists and turns from the author to make it more interesting. In the end, I didn't feel Max and Lia had much chemistry, so it was hard for me to really get into thier story. Now Gavin, he sounds pretty interesting.

I received an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review. I thoroughly enjoyed this funny, sad, romantic, and very sexy story of the reckless young woman, Lia, who is trying to find her own identity after picking herself up when an event years ago nearly destroyed her. Then there's Max, one of her brother's best friends, who has loved Lia since he met her five years earlier. But, he feels Lia can never be his, so he settles for being her friend and protector. I love the bantering back and forth between them, the camaraderie, and the way everyone, which includes Collin and Addie, Lia's brother and girlfriend, and Gavin, the other best friend of Collin and Max, looks out for each other. It's a fun and emotional story as well as a steamy romance that I highly recommend. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

A crazy ex and a man who has one rule, no second dates will discover that love is unplanned, unpredictable and has no rules.

Years apart, one kiss and a lot of fun make this slow burn a must read!

This is a second book in Reckless Hearts series. The series features three war veterans and best friends. The Right Kind of Reckless is a Max and Lia’s story. Max is Lia’s brother’s best friend and comrade. They been together in a battlefields and the friendship between them is strong. Max knows that Lia is forbidden territory but when he is around her he thinks with his heart. Lia is also in love with Max. She fell for him the moment she met him.

For me The Right Kind of Reckless was very different from the most of the romance novels I read; because Max and Lia confessed their feelings pretty early in the story. Until that moment the story was intense and emotions were high, but after the mutual revelation there is no more that sweet anticipation of what will happen next. From that moment on, the story focused more on Max and Lia’s happy end and HEA. This was definitely not something that diminished my enjoyment of reading this story; it just slowed the pace and toned down intensity.

Max and Lia are very lovable and complex characters. Each character have somewhat troubled past. I hoped that the author will deal a bit more with their pasts and traumas and issues but, she did not. Due to that characters remained a bit unfinished and they did not changed a lot.

All in all The Right Kind of Reckless is story worth reading. It is funny, it is sexy, it is told from POV of both Max and Lia. Although is second installment in the series it can be read as a standalone.

I loved this book so hard! Max and Lia were such a sweet and swoony couple. I hadn't read the first book in the series but I totally plan to now. Heather Van Fleet is such a fantastic storyteller and her characters just stole my heart. Considering the trauma that triggered Lia's rebellious nature, I would've liked more insight into her and her background, but I loved her good girl gone bad persona nonetheless. I also really loved Max as the man in love with his best friend's little sister so he disguises it by being a notorious playboy - he was just such a sweet and sexy man that loved so hard, despite his past. The two of them together were magic. The kind of magic that puts the author on my "Ones to Watch" list. I can't wait for the next book in the series! 4 out of 5 wine glasses.

This book is both a friends to more and a fall in love with your brother’s best friend story. It’s the second in a series and, even though I didn’t read the first, I didn’t find it at all difficult to get to know and understand the characters. It can actually be read as a stand alone. Max and Lia grew up together and have liked each other forever. Now that Max is out of the Military he realizes that he needs to move on with his life and he may be tired of fighting his attraction to Lia. However, she’s been through a lot as well and isn’t in a place to give her heart to him…even thought her feelings for him are strong.

I really loved Max from the very beginning. He takes care of Lia in every way and, even though he’s has spent time trying to get her out of his system, he will still do anything to keep her safe and happy. It’s easy to see how much he loves her because of how caring he is towards her and how much he gives her the benefit of the doubt about her choices and actions. Liking Lia was more difficult for me. I didn’t immediately connect with her because of how she treated Max in the beginning and it took me a while to understand her intentions and grow fond of her character. I know she has baggage but, to me, it wasn’t enough to capture my heart in the beginning. Although I thought these two had chemistry, I would have liked it to be a bit more explosive, especially at the start of the story. The lack of that heat made the story move a bit slowly for me at the start. However, I did eventually get what I was looking for between these two and enjoyed how the book ended. I liked the secondary characters quite a bit here as well and found that I’m anxious to see what happens to Gavin. I hope he gets his own book so I can learn more about what’s going on with him.

This book had good characters, a strong, sexy hero and a sweet romance. There are some twists and turns and the plot can be heartbreaking at times. It’s a bit slow moving in the beginning but, overall, it was a good read you’ll likely enjoy.

The Right Kind of Reckless was a sweet brother's best friend, friends-to-lovers romance. It wasn't paced that great, though, and I had a hard time connecting to Lia, but the story itself is not bad.

Ever since Max (Maxwell) rescued Lia, his best friend Collin's little sister, from a really bad incident in college, she's had feelings for him, and vice versa. But, neither has ever acted upon their feelings or ever told the other how they feel. The time has come, though, finally, for Max to finally get his woman. But, Lia has changed since the incident he rescued her from; she's slow to trust people now, and has walls that are strong as steel and tall as the sky, so it will take all of Max's considerable charm and sweetness to get Lia to let him in.

First off, I have to say that I adored Max. He's sweet, and fun and funny and would do anything for the people he loves. That being said, he led Lia on a merry little dance for awhile there, so I kind of understand part of her reticence to let him in. Lia, though, was too wishy washy with him, and it drove me bonkers. One day she was fine with him, the next she was running from him, time and again. It was like pick a feeling and stick with it already!! Because of the damage the incident in college did to her, Lia was prickly and closed off, and it made it hard for me to connect with or like her. I felt for her, no doubt, but I never ended up liking her.

Then there's the fact that this story didn't exactly move forward. It was kind of stagnant and not a lot happened. I started skimming, and that's never a good sign. I kept waiting for something significant to happen, and nothing did. It ended up boring me a little so that's why the lower rating. That and Lia's character. Normally, a brother's best friend story is my jam, but here, it just didn't capture my interest the way it normally would, so my actual rating is 3.5 stars. I am intrigued by Gavin's epilogue, though, and am hoping his story will be quicker paced and have a better heroine than The Right Kind of Reckless.

Loved the characters and their individual journeys. Their romance is sweet and believable. I struggled with their "conflict" as it often felt a bit contrived in order to prolong the story.

We finally get Max and Lia's story and it was definitely satisfying. There were adorable together once they figured out how to be with each other.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

This is a sweet story, and I like that the characters are in their mid-20's, and for the most part acted it. I also liked that Lia is sassy and tattooed, and that she wasn't putting her life on hold waiting for Max. The opening scene with Max was gross, but I do like him. He's tough and light-hearted, and once he decided that he's being an idiot staying away from Lia, he wasn't going to let anything stand in the way. This is a friends to lovers, best friend's sister romance, and I love both of those aspects; mainly the best friend's sister romance part, so I loved the angst behind trying to fight the attraction they have for each other. Max and Lia are really cute and adorable together! I didn't read the first book before this one, and I don't feel like I needed to, but reading this one does make me want to read the first book since those characters are involved in this story. I'm also interested to read the next book in this series, I enjoy books that deal with PTSD, so I think I'll love that one! Good writing, entertaining read, and sweet, sexy romance!

Lia hit her soon to be ex boyfriend Travis in the nose after he had caught him having sex with her coworker Aubrey outside the bar Jimney’s that they worked at by the dumpster. Lia worked there Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. She was also a barista at a coffee shop three days a week. Patricia lia’s boss was sending her home when the cops had showed up and Lia was arrested. Lia couldn’t call her brother to come bail her out so there was only one person she could trust to call and that was Max who was her brother’s- Collin- best friend. Max answered his phone and even though he was with a one night fling and they had fallen asleep he told Lia he would be there in ten minutes and he was and bailed her out. Lia didn’t have the money to bail herself out as she had just paid her last college tuition payment. Aubrey had accomplished what she had wanted to do from the start when they were both hired the same day. She had ruined Lia. Max made it clear to all the girls he was with they were only one night deals. Max was excited that Lia had called him for help and not Collin. Max deeply loved the one person he couldn’t have his best friends little sister- Lia. Lia had been crushing on Max for years he just didn’t know it. When Max would pull away from Lia it only made her want him more. Collin’s daughter-Chloe/Beaner’s mother had died and Collin had custody of her but Gavin- Collins and Max’s other best friend =they three men had met in bootcamp- adored the little girl. Collin had a beautiful girlfriend Addie and she made a great mom for Chloe. She was also Lia’s only female friend. Then Lia got a notice from the college she was still one thousand dollars short on paying off her tuition and until it was paid she could not get her diploma to get a good job. Travis had dropped the assault charges but the last three days all he did was call and leave voice messages and ask for a second chance and that he wanted Lia back he had said he even understood why she had punched him but she wanted nothing to do with Travis. Max had been a serial dater but on Wednesday Addie had stopped at the coffee shop with Chloe and told Lia that Max had said he wasn’t dating anymore that he wanted to look for someone and settle down with. Yet all week Max had asked about Lia according to Addie. Lia acted l8ike nothing bothered her it was easier. Lia had played the role of the carefree whack job , she had built that role for the last five years. Lia had two secret goals - pay off her tuition and get her diploma. Max realized he someday wanted a house, a wife. A couple of kids exactly what he had never had growing up. Eventually while at the bar Lia admitted to Max she was in love with him and had been for awhile and then turned to walk away as she knew Max loved her but as a best friend/sister. But Max stopped her and told Lia he loved her for a long time also.
I loved this romance. It was a sweet, fun, and beautiful read. I loved the friendship Collin. Max. and Gavin had. Also the one between Lia and Addie. I also loved Collin and Lia’s parents and how they loved Colin’s best friends too. I also loved how Lia’s parents knew max and Lia loved each other and were all for it. I think Chloe/Beaner Collin’s young daughter added a lot to this book. I couldn’t find anything to complain or dislike in this story and that was great. This book choked me up at times and made me laugh at others. I felt this was also well written. Once I started reading this book I didn’t want to put it down. I loved the characters and the ins and outs and I highly recommend.

Max is in love with a woman he knows he can't have but it doesn't stop him from wanting her. So he does the only thing he thinks will keep her off his mind, he stays away from her and sleeps with other women. Although it's not what he wants because she is his best friend’s little sister and he cannot go there.

Leanne "Lia" is trying to find herself and always with the wrong boyfriends that cheat on her and are just wrong for her. But after a traumatic event in her past, she doesn't trust easily, but Max just wants to keep her safe like he did that night. She will have to learn to trust herself and him. They have been friends since that night and the sparks between them sizzle.

Can Lia learn to trust her feelings for Max and move forward? Will Max tell Collin the truth before he learns from someone else and it explodes in their faces?

I loved the first story and this one was just as great. If you are looking for a sexy and sweet series with sexy, swoon-worthy Marines that find the women they love, then you need to read this series, it will not disappoint. And that little tidbit at the end with Gavin… OMG, I can't wait for his story. I NEED IT NOW!

This was my first book by Heather Van Fleet, and I enjoyed it. It is a sweet contemporary romance. I would read the next book in the series.

Loved Max and Lia's sweet and sexy friends to lovers story.

The Right Kind of Reckless is a really well done, friends to lovers, sister of your best friend book. What set this apart in this genre for me was that Max and Lia truly cared for each other, it wasn't just a case of pure unadulterated lust. Over the years, they've cultivated a relationship based on hidden feelings and going out with other people in hopes of denying their feelings for each other.

Max has a player, commitment-phobe reputation and he finally gets to a point where he is done with all of that because of how he feels about Lia.

Lia is a fun character. She does her own thing and makes no apologies for it. Max knows her better than almost anyone, he knows her past and its effect on her.

I enjoyed Max and Lia's story. They both had a fair amount of choices to make as far what they wanted to do with their lives and how (and if) they could incorporate each into their futures. Oh, and did I mention that Lia's brother is Max's best friend and he's bit gruff and protective? Yeah, that makes for a lot of interesting situations between Max and Collin.

The Right Kind of Reckless is a friends to lovers and brother's best friend romance.
Although part of a series, this book can easily be read on it's own and enjoyed.
Heather Van Fleet is a new to me author whose books I will more than likely read again as I found this book to be a quite pleasurable read.
It's a contemporary romance with plenty of heat, a drool-worthy hero and a heroine who made me laugh more than once.
A good read that I'm happy to recommend.

An arc of this book was provided to me by Sourcebooks, Casablanca via Netgalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This is the second book in this series by this author. This is the first book I've read by this author and it won't be the last. This book can be read as a stand alone read. This is a heart warming story of two people finding each other and their love for each other. The characters are really well written and have fantastic chemistry between them. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.
Highly recommended

This is the second book in the series it can be read as a standalone but should really be read in order.Collins story was the first book and I really enjoyed it this one is Max and Lia.s book and was just as good if not better.Max and Lia have been attracted to each other for years but Max has never crossed the line with Collin's little sister and they became really good friends instead.Max distance himself from Lia because it hurts too much being around her does not really stop him from being a bit of a man whore though, but when she is in trouble he comes to her aid.It was a good read very realistic I found myself shouting at them at times but once they actually started talking to each I just wanted to kiss them.

The Right King of Reckless is the second book of the Reckless Hearts series by author Heather Van Fleet. It is a standalone contemporary romance. It’s of the I’m in love with my best friend’s sister forbidden lovers kind.

Max has loved Lia from the moment he laid eyes on her. But falling for Lia and acting on it are two very different things. Being his best friend’s younger sister, Max is kept from doing more than loving her from afar while serial dating countless women because of the bro code. Will his love for Lia outweigh his loyalty to his best friend? Will he risk his friendship not only with Collin, but with Lia herself in order to have the happy ever after?

After a horrible experience at a frat party during college, Lia became a completely different person and had trouble trusting men. But the attraction she’s felt for Max has only intensified with time and the fact that he seems to want her as much as she wants him is making her re-think her outlook on men or at least this man. Can she ever learn to trust him?

If you can get past the serial dating to get the love of his life he could never have out of his system, Max was all sorts of sweet, caring, and kind. He was sexy and swoony just as much as he was a protector. He was so sweet and invested in his relationship with Lee-Lee that he came on too strong and kind of gave me a tooth ache. And even though they both had some growing up to do it was Lia who had a more difficult time accepting Max’s love and their budding relationship.

Although the story is full of emotional struggles for both main characters and a lot of room for healing, the plot seemed to loop around the same issue and felt slow in moving forward. This is my first Heather Van Fleet book and I feel very curious about the previous and next book in this series.
