After adoring Heart of a Texas Cowboy and getting introduced to the three Legend brothers and their world, I absolutely had to have the final brother’s story. Luke needed justice and a good woman. And ah, yes, Ms. Broday provided his perfect match and quite the adventure for the pair of them.
Review

To Marry a Texas Outlaw is the third of the Men of Legend series. It builds on what came before with Sam and Houston’s stories, but I think it would work alright as a standalone if necessary.

Luke is the illegitimate outlaw Legend brother who has dedicated his life to tracking down the real murderer of the judge so he can get his life back. He dreams of that life being with his family on the Legend ranch and accepted as one of them, but fear, guilt, and a lack of worth eat at him.

Bursting onto the scene in glorious technicolor in Luke’s life is a woman who maybe just as trouble as Luke. The lady has lost her memories, but it looks like she might have killed a man and is on the run while needing to get answers. Toss in an abused boy and a starving dog and Luke’s life just got a whole lot more interesting.

Luke tends to be rather an Eeyore through this book and I had the urge to kick him in the pants to get over it many times- and Josie, the woman who fiercely wants him if he would just take what she’s offering, practically does. Good for Josie!
But to be fair, Luke has to come to terms with his past and his past choices. Its tougher to accept the good and believe you can have it and deserve it when you’ve had a life like he did.

The romance was a firecracker style with a gun-toting, cussing, hot tempered Josie paired with an introspective, slow-burn, capable Luke. She riles him up and he tempers her impulsiveness. But the sizzle was there and loved seeing them together whether scraping, loving, or fighting side by side.

The action was good and I loved the mystery element as Luke was pursuing a killer who framed him and they were trying to figure out the mystery of Josie’s past, hope she’s innocent, and help her get her memories back all while the law and some other evil outlaws are on their trail.
I loved that their trail eventually led back to Luke’s family. I get a bit swoony when the Legend men are all together and fighting for a cause.

I’m not sure if this was the last of the series. I felt like it to me. But yes, it was the perfect story to cap it off. Luke’s was the story I wanted most and it totally lived up to expectation.

In summary, this was a strong, fiery, and exciting historical western by a writer who makes Texas history come alive with romance and adventure. I can definitely recommend the series to western romance lovers.

My thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca for providing the book in exchange of an honest review.

This is exciting, dramatic, romantic, gripping and suspenseful. And a tearjerker towards the end. Luke is honorable, caring and insecure. He has a huge heart that he won't let people in to, but can't help feeling for others. Josie is stubborn, headstrong, scrappy and determined. The Legends are a captivating family, a strong family who always have each others backs. The storylines are intense, with twists and surprises and heartache. I absolutely loved this book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.

This was a very sweet, funny story. This is my first book from Linda Broday and I will definitely check out her other offerings. Luke and Josie were so adorable together. He didn't want to let her in because of his past but at the end love prevailed. Josie was a strong woman even though she was in a difficult predicament (no spoilers). If you are a big fan of Western and cowboys romance, this is for you. I was given an advance copy of this book by netgalley for an honest review.

I am so hooked on this book, that I had to buy the two previous book's from this series.

I've been looking forward to Luke's story since we met him in book 1 of the series.

I really loved Josie and Luke together. I think Broday did a great job of balancing out their personalities. You would definitely need a strong personality to go up against the hardened Luke Weston and Josie was just the girl for the task. Josie saw the man that Luke was and not the man that he thought he was which was what he needed to be able to move on in life and with his family.

Broday ended the story with what I hope ends up being a teaser for upcoming books in the series or for a new spinoff series. Whatever she ends up doing, I know that I look forward to reading it.

I really enjoyed this romance. I just discovered Linda Broday a few months ago when I read Knight on the Texas Plains and knew I wanted read more of her writing so I jumped on the chance to read this book. This is the third book in the Men of Legend series and I was a bit concerned going in since I have not read the earlier books. I had nothing to worry about and can assure readers that this book works well as a stand alone. I am so glad that I decided to read this wonderful little story.

This book opens with a bang. Luke finds a woman tied up and her captors flee. He has very important business to take care of but he just can't leave her. She is covered in blood and has no memory of who she is and what has happened. Luke is a wanted man and it seems that the woman he rescued may be in the same situation.

Luke and Josie were wonderful characters. Luke may be a wanted man but he was always thinking about how his actions affected others in his life. He really was a very caring man. Josie doesn't remember anything about her life but it was obvious what kind of person she was right away. She was very strong and I was eager to find out more about her. I thought that Luke and Josie were wonderful together. They seemed to really compliment each other and were always able to be open with each other. The chemistry between them was intense from the very beginning of the book and only got stronger as I continued to read.

There was a lot going on in this book. I had a great time learning more about how Luke became an outlaw and how Josie ended up in the situation she was in at the start of the book. Add in a little drama with a child they run into who happens to know Josie and some problems at the ranch and you have a really exciting story. There was never a boring moment in this book.

I would recommend this book to fans of western historical romances. I had so much fun reading this one and am really excited to go back and read the earlier books in the series. Linda Broday has created a wonderful family of characters in this delightful series.

I received an advance reader edition of this book from Sourcebooks Casablanca via NetGalley.

To Marry a Texas Outlaw, by Linda Broday is an interesting historical romance set in the 1870s.

Luke Weston is an outlaw being blamed for a murder that he didn't commit. While trying to clear his name, Luke discovers Josie "Rose" Morgan, who is struggling to survive and also has amnesia, and later finds an adorable young boy, who recognizes Josie. Luke takes both of his new traveling companions to his extended family's home, despite not wanting to bring danger to his family.

While struggling to live and clear both their names, Luke and Josie fall in love. As the story unfolds, they're forced to deal with their pasts affecting their future together, as well as family complications and life-threatening danger.

Since it's the third book in the Men of Legends series, it's recommended to start with the first book, yet it's not necessary to read the books in order. Previously, I reviewed the second book in the series, titled as The Heart of a Texas Cowboy.

To Marry a Texas Outlaw is geared towards those who enjoy reading historical romances with some suspense interlaced into the story.

Note: I received this book from NetGalley, which is a program designed for bloggers to write book reviews in exchange for books, yet the opinions expressed in this review are my own.

After reading the story of the two brothers, Sam and Houston, of course I was curious to know what would happen to their half-brother, Luke Weston.

Luke does not carry the surname Legend and he only knew who his father was when his mother was dying.
Stoker Legend had not renegade his son, he never knew Elena was pregnant, and she was the first great love of his life. Now, Stoker wants his son living with him at Lone Star Ranch, but Luke first needs to find out who blamed him and why he was charged with murdering the federal judge, and he's a wanted man.

On his way hiding from justice (his luck is that his brother is the sheriff), he finds a woman tied up in her blood-soaked clothes and with amnesia.
Luke helps her and calls her "Rose" until they discover her identity.
This does not take long. There is every reason to believe that Rose is actually Josie Morgan, the woman who killed her own husband.
But despite Rose/Josie showing that she knows how to handle a gun, she had no profile of who would kill someone in cold blood.

And as Luke escapes from men pursuing him and Josie goes after her identity, they begin to feel attraction to each other.
But Luke did not feel worthy to carry the Legend name and take possession of the lands his father insisted were his. Josie deserved a better man for her, though Luke did not accept the idea of seeing her in another man's arms.

Until Luke faces his past and stands face-to-face with his worst enemy, and they would be hit, and maybe, since Luke could not erase his past, he would make Josie part of his future.

Beautiful end to the Legend brothers series.
Romantic western novel. No erotica.
5 stars

To Marry A Texas Outlaw is a beautiful well written story from a new favorite author of mine. Historical westerns are a bit of a forgotten art, and I love that Linda Broday has brightened up this sub genre in romance and the way she writes these cowboys and ranchers and bad boys of sorts are sexy as all get out. Now I will say that I do wish I had started with book one and I have no idea why I didn’t. *banging head against the wall*.

So what is this story about may you ask? well let me tell you the basics. This book features the third brother, who is an outlaw and running from the law. However our hero was framed for a crime that he didn’t commit and is on the hunt for the man who can clear him so he can return home. But when he starts to close in, he stumbles across an injured woman who has lost her memories and is covered with blood. Luke is not the type of man to abandon a woman in need. She doesn’t have any idea who she is, and obviously she has suffered a recent trauma. So as they go in search of clues to find out her past and see if anything triggers her memory, they stumble across a young boy and his dog that are on the run from his abusive uncle. Luke is overwhelmed because he is now responsible for a woman and boy who are in danger and his time is running out.

I can’t say how much I adored this book, it was simply exciting and full of adventure and these road trip adventure romances rock and Linda Broday is one of those authors that are so talented at it. I love the way that this plot develops from the beginning of seeing the hero find the heroine, and then discover a young boy that has been abused and seeing him just grow in healing and become a smart and funny little boy. And the animals…..if you like dogs and cats…this book is definitely for you. Because they were just the cherry on top for this book. A grown up dog and a kitten do NOT get along hehe so seeing them introduced and boy what chaos they create just adds a lighter side to a more serious sided plot of the story. the family that we are introduced to here with his father and his two brothers was so addictive. I just couldn’t get enough of this sweet family. I love how even though Luke is the “loner” type, his father and brothers are so protective and never give up on him. We see the way that Luke looks at himself. He was born as a bastard, and so he doesn’t consider himself a true member of the family. However what was a plus, was seeing how his family doesn’t feel that way. They treat him normally and would sacrifice their own lives for him and I love seeing that family loyalty.

The romance that builds between Luke and Josie was engaging and I wanted more of these two. I think what I love is how right they are for each other. Josie isn’t a passive heroine. She is progressive, and is smart even though she has lost her memory, she is devoted to Luke and is working her way to convince Luke to give them a chance. Because Luke is so focused on his current condition, of being in danger from the law and doesn’t want to risk giving Josie more because he doesn’t want her to have to mourn him. So we see a bit of a test of wills between the two and seeing the growth emotionally in their relationship. Now I will say what was unique, was that they have sex earlier on in the book which is rare for a HR western and then the later half of the story the focus is more on the emotional intimacy and the climax of the plot and so much suspense and danger and I was on the edge of my seat, it was simply mind blowing picking up this book and falling so in love with these easy to love characters.

Overall….this western sexy romance is thrilling, edgy, endearing and packed of elements that come together in a splendid mix of romance and passion!!

Endings are inevitable!

And with the last title of Men of Legend, it’s also hard to say goodbye. Not too many series in the genre of Western Romance, we as readers get so engross with characters that they feel like family. But, when I turned the last page on To Love a Texas Ranger, I was determined to find out more about these mysterious men. About the time I completed the 2nd book The Heart of a Texas Cowboy, I couldn’t get enough, I was addicted to their stories.
However, one brother stood out more than the others…. Luke Weston. He was a mystery that I wanted to learn about. What made him tick? What made him become the man he was? And so many other questions, that if I had to list them all, I might have to write a book myself. Well in the last installment to Linda Broday’s Men of Legend series “To Marry a Texas Outlaw”. All those burning questions were finally answered.
We learn that Luke’s Weston life was certainly no bed of roses growing up, even though his mother tried. But with one act of cruelty against the one person that he counted on most. Outlaw Luke Weston life was set in stone. He survived life by his wits. He was also, determined to find the person reasonable for having a bounty placed on his head for murder. So, certainly, he wasn’t out looking for love or having the responsibility of taking care of someone else. Especially one Josie Morgan.
The Men of Legend series started off with one gravely injured Texas Ranger and ending the series with one man finding justice and finally a home to hang up his guns. Whether or not it’s for good would be determined by Linda Broday or the children of the Men of Legend.

I was a huge fan of a television show “Castle” and a speech was spoken by one of the characters. “There is a universal truth we all have to face, whether we want to or not, everything eventually ends!” .... Alexis Castle

The last name, Legend, is a pretty cool family name to marry into. I for one wouldn’t mind marrying one of the three Legend brothers. Even the Father sounded pretty swoon worthy. Strong, brave, and willing to fight for justice. Did I mention tall, gorgeous and quick with a gun? I’d ride on a horse into the sunset with any one of them. To Marry a Texas Outlaw is book three in the Men of Legend. I didn’t read the first two books and I could tell they were referenced , but I didn’t feel lost or confused at all. I was only made curious to learn more about what they were talking about. I felt a little left out as if I wasn’t in on the inside joke.

Josie Morgan, was the lucky damsel in distress to be rescued by the outlaw Luke Weston. The best part of the plot was Josie trying to regain her lost memory. As feisty as she was, there wasn’t anything she could do to force herself to remember. The reader was filled with anticipation waiting to see if and when she’d ever remember her past. I felt frustrated for her yet at the same time wishing she wouldn’t remember in case it ruined her future with Luke.

Luke had quite the past of his own. The suspense of him being an outlaw with bounty hunters after him was completely engrossing. The mystery involving her kidnapping by two heavily armed men was as equally as captivating. The chemistry between the two could start a forest fire if they weren’t cautious. Together they made for an entertaining read.

Some books read at such a fast pace that I get whiplash. Other books read at such a slow pace I want to bang my head against the wall. Then there are books such as this one that move along at a run/walk/run pace. If you’re familiar with Jeff Galloway then you know about his run/walk/run method that I’m referring to. That is what came to my mind as I was reading this book. At first the “I love her but she deserves better than me” and the “I love him but he won’t open up his heart and let me in” made me feel “aww, how sweet”. However, it quickly became a broken record and those moments became the walk pace in the book. Time to go switch the wash, check the mail, fold the laundry, or go to bed moments. Fortunately, it was easy to get back into the book because before I knew it, the pace was off and running again. It felt great and then we were back to the “stark reality of why she and Luke can never be…even as their hearts were telling them otherwise”. If it wasn’t for the suspense/mystery plot threads then it would have been a head banger. I guess the writing style wasn’t for me. I was frustrated with the ideology of picking flower petals and chanting “he loves me, he loves me not, he loves me, he loves me not…” At that point all I wanted to ask was, How is this book going to end?”

I am pleased to say that To Marry a Texas Outlaw did have a wonderful, happy, long drawn out ending. I don’t recall the last time I was so happy to finish a book. If you ever ran a half marathon you’ll know what I’m talking about. It’s the most wonderful feeling to run the marathon but it’s the best feeling to cross the finish line. This is how To Marry a Texas Outlaw made me feel. I won the race with Luke and Josie. If you love this kind of melodrama then this book is for you. I can’t speak for the first two books but based on this third book in the series I’d be likely to recommend the Legend brothers to all romance genre readers.

To Marry a Texas Outlaw by Linda Broday is the 3rd book in her Men of Legend series. This book reads very well as a standalone, though it is best to read the earlier books to learn more about this wonderful family and the Legend men. When I read my first book (Texas Plains) by Broday, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed that book, since I usually do not read westerns. Now having loved To Marry a Texas Outlaw, I will be reading anything by Linda Broday, as she writes beautiful heartwarming stories, with wonderful characters.
In To Marry a Texas Outlaw, Luke Weston, our hero, is on the run, as he is trying to clear himself from a murder charge, which he did not commit. Luke is also known as a famous gunslinger, and is always looking over his shoulder at those trying to kill him. When he comes across a wagon, he sees a woman tied up and two men hurting her. He comes to her rescue.

Josie Morgan, our heroine, at first thinks Luke is one of the men who kidnapped her, but she learns quickly that he was rescuing her. When Luke tries to get information from her, she cannot remember anything, including her name; something which will be revealed in a short time. As Luke takes her to friends for protection, they both begin to feel an attraction to each other. Josie is determined to find out who she is and why was she kidnapped? She also learns about Luke, and believes in his innocence. But both of them have issues that would stop them from acting on their feelings; Josie worries she might have done something bad, and Luke wouldn’t accept her. Luke already feels his life is too dangerous for Josie or his family to be part of. Two tough and determined people, who are falling in love….will they find a way to stay together.

What follows is an exhilarating and exciting adventure that will bring Luke’s family (Stoker (father), his brothers, Sam, Houston and their wives) into a large part of the story, at the Lone Star ranch. They all try to convince Luke that he is part of the family no matter what, and they want to help him. He is stubborn, determined to leave and keep them safe. Josie & Luke will also bring to the family a young boy and his dog, who they saved from a abusive uncle, and he too will become part of the Legend household. The last half of the book has them all fighting against hired gunslingers to save the father, and in turn save Luke. Josie was a strong and tough heroine, who was able to rise above her kidnapping and memory loss and step fully into the battle to help them. She will also open Luke’s heart to a possible future of love and family. This was such a heartwarming and emotional story that has us unable to put the book down, and a fantastic ending. Very well done by Broday.

What follows is a unique and wonderful story of two people, one on the run and the other having lost her memory, who will find love for each other . I loved when they got to the family ranch, and Luke’s family was great. I can’t say enough how much I enjoyed this heart wrenching story, and the wonderful characters Linda Broday has created. If you enjoy heartwarming western romance adventures, wonderful couples and families; I strongly suggest you read Linda Broday’s books.

Three Brothers. One Oath.
No Compromises.
The MEN of LEGEND

The Outlaw
Outlaw Luke Weston survives by his wits. On the run for a murder he didn't commit, the last thing he needs is to go looking for more trouble. But when Luke stumbles across a fiercely beautiful woman struggling against two heavily armed men, it's obvious that trouble has found him.

After all, he never could resist a damsel in distress.

Josie Morgan's distressed, all right―and hopping mad. She has no idea why she's been kidnapped...or who she is...or why her body melts for the mysterious gunslinger who saved her life. But as the lost memories come tumbling back together, Josie is faced with the stark reality of why she and Luke can never be...even as her heart is telling her she will always be his.

My Thoughts

Luke Weston is a man torn by thoughts of his past, worry for his present and fear for his future. A hunted outlaw since he was barely out of his teens the man’s gruff exterior hides a heart that yearns for a better life, a life filled with love of a strong woman like his mother, a family of his own and most of all the acceptance and love of the family he grew up wishing to be a part of but never thought he stood a chance to do so.

Josie Morgan is a woman without a past, she cannot remember her own name until a lucky circumstance changes that for her. She was found by Luke tied up and bloody then the pair

My favorite quote/thoughts were at the end of the book and hope they remain in the final copy when released, “In Texas, some Legends were made, some were born, and some were created by destiny.

This was the way of things.

This was his legacy.

This was the mighty Lone Star Ranch.

As a huge fan of Historical Western Romance this book was a pleasure to read and it’s characters enjoyable representations of the indomitable human spirit it took to survive what was still wild territory in late 1870’s Texas.

Despite having not read the first two books in the series feel this third installment was an excellent stand-alone as it focused on Luke and his personal growth and eventual acceptance that there were plenty of people who needed him and loved him so he could learn to love himself. It was a great look into just what it took for a bad man to see the good in himself that others already saw.

Though of course at this point a lot of the back story for Luke and the rest of the Legend men remains a mystery to me.

Well, hello Texas Cowboys. I loved this story. Being from Texas as well as a rancher's daughter I really enjoyed the Texas independence part of the story. Texas land is still just as untamed as the cowboys.
This book was full of second chances. The Hero, heroine, family and supporting characters all got second chances at life, love and happiness.
This book is worth your time. It feels good when the good guys win and the bad guys earn their just reward y'all.

I could not have asked for a better conclusion to the, Men of Legend, series. What a great idea to have Luke's lady love also running from the law. It made his leaving her harder if he wanted to keep her safe and out of jail. And then you have all of the Legend family who throw their love and support in. Let anyone try to come between them, I dare you.

This was certainly entertaining. I enjoyed the story and action. I also really loved the side characters like the beer-drinking horse! What a hoot! I was bummed that Luke, the main male character, was not a true outlaw. He was framed for a murder he didn't commit. I was hoping for a true outlaw who killed without a care in the world. However, I did like him. I liked Josie too, but I didn't feel the connection between the two. It left me feeling like this wasn't a true historical romance. It felt like an adventure story with the two main characters liking each other but knowing it might not work out since one of them is on the run and trying to clear his name.

I am curious to read the other books!

I do recommend this if you need a quick, light read with some action and some romance. I'll give this a 3.

A fellow blogger and reader read the book too and we decided to feature this book as the Joint Review of the month...check it out in the links below.

Story full of action, mystery, and second chances. Author thoroughly conveyed the spirit of the old west in this sweeping drama. Characters were well-developed and oftentimes their struggles tugged at the heartstrings. Particularly loved the way the women in the novel were portrayed as tough and resilient just like the land where they settled.
