I could so relate to this story as I have two cats who want to hog the same sunny spots at my house! Grade schoolers are going to enjoy the rivalry between the older, seasoned cat and his sense of entitlement. AND the new little interloper (!) with body guards, no less! Laugh out loud funny!

I wanted to love this book, but it turns out I merely liked it. As a crazy cat lady, I loved the idea of a book told from a cat's point of view, but George is an unlikeable narrator. He is too cocky and immature and his voice was so grating, I could not read more than a handful of pages at a time which made reading this book a chore. By the time I reached the last page I realized why the story was written. I will give it a home in my classroom library. Maybe my students will appreciate it more than I did.

Written from the perspective of George the ginger cat, this is an enjoyable book all about life at the farm. He is chief of security and it is his job to keep the farm free of rodents. He has found himself a napping spot in one of the farmhouse windows, but one day finds someone sleeping in his spot - time to assert his authority!

This is a nice read for young readers that are just gaining confidence - the vocabulary is not too challenging but it is enough to help consolidate their reading skills. It makes a nice change to read a story from the perspective of one of the animals, and allows young readers to escape into their imaginations. This is a light, enjoyable read.

George is a big orange cat who lives on a farm. He is the Chief of Security whose job is to keep the farm free from rodents. He is very proud of all he does on the farm and when he is finished a good day's work, he likes to nap. There is a second house on the farm that is empty. It has a large porch that used to be infested with mice. George cleaned it up and now claims the house as his own. His napping spot is the nice sunny spot on that porch. All goes well until the day someone else is napping in his sunny spot. When the house gets new tenants, they bring a small gray kitten named Felix and 2 dogs named Brutus and Festus. When George tells Felix to find a different spot to lay down, Felix calls on his two bodyguards who chase George away. George decides that he must find a way to get his spot back. With some tricks and some help, George tries many things to get Felix and the dogs to leave and/or relinquish his spot.

This story, about two rivals who must learn how to get along. This will involve compromise and cooperation as well as listening to each other and putting themselves in someone else's position. The characters are lovable and believable, and the ending is a realistic one. My only problem with this story is that the cuteness might not appeal to the age group the story is intended for. I could see this as a read aloud in a junior class with a lot of discussion about what they should do next. I think this would make a good addition to a school or classroom library.

George has a special sunny spot that he sleeps in on the nice afternoons. The empty house next door is quiet, he does his chores first and then he takes his nap on the porch. But all that is about to change.

Prairie Land Press and Net Galley allowed me to read this book for review (thank you). It has been published and you can grab a copy now.

I love cats and my brother's name is George. I had to read this book.

George patrols the farm. He keeps the mice and gopher count down, he eats grasshoppers and crickets so the garden grows well, and he discourages other animals from settling in. He's surprised to see his human get so excited when this couple comes to visit but he doesn't realize it's going to change his life.

They decide to rent the place next door and, while they don't have children yet, they have a young cat and TWO dogs! How awful!

I enjoyed this story because George hates the little cat because it takes his sunny spot, hates the dogs because they chase him, and hates everybody because his routines have changed. When George decides to use psychology on the kitten, it backfires. The mangy coyote is in the area and he's going after the kitten. George goes to the rescue. In the process, he finds out he still has things to learn and it's good idea to have a friend as backup in a fight. No one gets hurt too badly and the two cats start to talk to each other and life gets better. Even the dogs accept George. Now he has a sunny spot and a friend to share it with! He's also got a new girlfriend. Life couldn't be better...

This is a real nice book about George the farm cat, who sees his terrytory violated by a newcomer. My went out to this cat who was never really socialised by his humans, but in the end everything was made right. I especially liked the feel of a 'real' cat talking, not like a lot of other cat books.

Princess Fuzzypants here:
I loved, loved, loved this book. George, a ginger cat like me, lives on a farm and his life is almost purrfect. In return for being head of security on the farm, he has a beloved sunny spot on the porch of an empty house on the property. His life is going to be turned upside down when an upstart cat named Felix moves in and takes over his sunny spot. Worse still, he has two henchmen dogs who makes George's life dangerous and miserable.
In trying to escape the dogs, George is transported accidentally to town where he meets the love of his life. After telling her his sad tale, she suggests he try to make friends with the newcomers. It is easier said than done as misunderstandings and kitty machismo get in the way. It all turns out well in the end after George and Felix learn lessons about compromise, bravery, accommodation and friendship. It is a great message told in a charming and entertaining manner. It was delightful with just the right amount of suspense for young readers.
I give this five purrs and two paws up.

George and the Stolen Sunny Spot by Kristin Bauer Ganoung is an elementary school age chapter book. Told by George it is a humorous story that would amuse others who are older, too. I loved that he was the head of farm security in his mind, not so sure the humans would agree with him.

Entertaining story as George’s farm life suddenly has a distinctive change that was not planned nor liked in the beginning. How he goes about trying to right his world once again is fascinating if futile at times. Lovers of cats at any age will enjoy this story, just as anyone who has ever had to adjust to unsolicited change in their life can identify with George.

George the farm cat takes his job as head of farm security very seriously. So, he doesn't take too well to another cat called Felix trying to take over his watch.. There follows daily battles between the two cats.....who will compromise and give up ownership of the cherished sun spot? A humorous and engaging read which is aimed at middle school children and just about anyone who loves cats.

George is a big orange cat whose job is to keep the farm free of rodents. He considers himself to be the chief of farm security. He takes pride in his work. After work he loves to nap in the sunny spot on the front porch.

But one day George sees a small cat—an intruder taking his spot on the porch! George decides that he has to inform the new cat that he needs to find a different place to lay down. However, George is not prepared for the response he gets! The situation escalates and each day becomes a near battle. George decides that he must find a way to reassert his authority.

This story, about two rivals who must learn how to compromise and cooperate, is hard to put down as the cats plot and scheme to show who is in charge. The characters are lovable and believable, and the ending is heartwarming. Middle school readers would enjoy seeing how a tense, unhappy situation can be peacefully resolved!

Thank you to NetGalley, Prairieland Press, and author Kristin Bauer Ganoung for giving me the opportunity to read the ARC of this book!
