Good heavens, I needed that! The Oatmeal is always good for a laugh, as long as you like your humor a bit on the nasty side. But it's so honest and silly to look at how our animals behave as if it were one of us. Pretty absurd and super funny!

I love The Oatmeal. I'm not sure why his particular brand of humor gets me but it does. I'm also generally not one to laugh out loud at books but in this one's all too short duration, I laughed more than once. Not a single page was turned without at least a smile. For anyone who has a dog, I highly recommend this. If you don't own one, I'd still highly recommend it.

My reviewer rating: 4 out of 5
Recommend read: yes, cute and funny

I could have rated this a 5 if it were more meme-like or comic strip-esque. The book is cute and entertaining, the pictures giggle-worthy, and I am sure that almost every dog owner can relate. I think some parents and or spouses may even relate to some of the scenarios. The squeaky toys part is mine. I think my dog goes into a trance once she gets a squeaker in her mouth. Just squeak.
squeak.

squeak squeak.

squeak-squeak-squeak.

squeak.

Silence. Thank you, Jesus.

I could recommend so much more that could be put into this book, though.

So much more.

Fart and runs.
Barking at people until they turn around and then sniff their ankles.
Dog dreaming.

So much more.

But the bath scene is hilarious, especially if you've ever washed an extremely long-haired dog. Kuvasz? Ha! Drowned rat.

And I'm sorry, but I have yet to own a dog that stayed still for pictures. It's an endless supply of blurry images. So frustrating.

Read this as your waiting in line at the checkout, because that's as long as it will take you, unless you're at Wal-Mart. You may as well pick up a copy of Game of Thrones then.

Full disclosure: i love reading The Oatmeal's web comics. This book is hilarious.

My first introduction to the Oatmeal was many moons ago when I was learning web design. The comic I first stumbled upon was about building a website with a difficult client. It was honest and accurate which made it hilarious. Many years later I purchased 5 Very Good Reasons to Punch a Dolphin in the Mouth and Other Useful Guides. It has remained in my bathroom to educate guests while they drop the kids off at the pool. I enjoy Matthew Inman's art and humor which is why I jumped at the chance to preview his latest work.

If My Dogs Were a Pair of Middle-Aged Men is a short gift book about Matt's two dogs, as middle aged men. Does that sound weird? It is. That doesn't stop Inman from personifying his dog into two old dudes, and he does it well. So much so that I was immediately reminded I'm more of a cat person. :adds How to Tell if Your Cat is Plotting to Kill You to wishlist:

Fans of the Oatmeal will enjoy this. I laughed out loud at least once. So the real question is would I buy this as a gift for a friend? Yes. Would I buy it for myself? Probably not. I'd rather spend money on one of Inman's longer books.

Super quick read (about 30 pages) and was really funny.

If you're a fan of The Oatmeal, it's definitely a book for you. If you're a fan of really dumb jokes, this is a book for you.

Plus only The Oatmeal could draw dogs as humans and make it seem like the most normal thing. Fun book, would recommend.

Though overall pretty funny, a lot of these jokes are the types of things I've seen over and over relative to dogs. Also, this was really too short to constitute a whole book.

What it says on the tin. I laughed by the end. Probably funnier for dog people; it certainly does something to your perceptions to see two tiny middle-aged men in tighty-whities acting like dogs, even in cartoon form.

I love The Oatmeal comics. They are clever and funny, and always super relatable. This is a cute look at dog behavior and what it would like like if humans behaved like your favorite pup. The "murderers" section is my favorite. Cute gift for a dog lover. Not my favorite of Matt's work, but still made me smile.

The Oatmeal has done it again.
This is hilarious and brilliant. And true on so many levels. You'll been nodding along saying yes, YES!!

I don't often read adult comics but this one struck me due to the humorous element of seeing dogs depicted as humans! I find both human and animal behaviours fascinating, so this comic book definitely made me chuckle. I only gave it four stars as I would liked to have seen it a bit longer. All pet-owners can relate to the behaviours depicted in this book!
I'll certainly be looking out for others in the series.

I'm not sure why it is so humorous to see dog behavior depicted as performed by middle aged men, but it is! I laughed out loud. This is a fun little gift book.

You open the book and it is finished. It was too short. It is too short because it is funny.
I like the oatmeal, I find his cartoons funny and relatable. Still I do like his longer stories better, like some posts on his blog. I had hoped the book was longer so he could include some of those. But, it has the charm, and were a nice way to relax for a minute in a hectic day.

I just love The Oatmeal's art/comics, and so when I saw this one as a Read Now up on Netgalley I just had to get it. It may not contain much new things (since I follow The Oatmeal on Twitter), but I still wanted it.

And in the end, it was indeed just the comics which I already read on his site (with a few changes at times it seems, maybe to make it more seller-friendly?). But oh well, it was fun to read them again, to see him and his dogs (or should I say middle-aged men) and see what happens in their life.

It is still a brilliant idea to draw draw middle-aged men instead of dogs. It just fits too well, way too well actually, and some scenes made me laugh so loudly (like the bath scene with the POOF, or the mailman and their reaction to it).

At times I just felt so sorry for Matt, it is one thing when it is dogs, but when it is dogs draw as middle-aged men, it just makes situations so much worse (like the bum licking in full view of Matt).

Matt's drawing style is still a favourite of mine.

All in all, this was definitely fun to read and I would recommend it!

This was literally an experience that I will never forget because of the sheer hilarity.

Do you read the Oatmeal on a regular basis? Then you have seen most if not all of the cartoons in this book. But, then, if you read the Oatmeal on a regular basis, you also love these cartoons, and here is a chance to have them in a print collection.

Matt started by imagining his two dogs as middle-aged men, and showed how hilarious it is if you see them doing all the regular dog things, but as people. It is a funny book, but I didn't laugh quite so much as the first time I saw his cartoons.

So, good for people who want a printed collection of The Oatmeal's cartoons, and also a good way to convert friends and family to reading his cartoons.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.
