Okay, so I really don't get why the author doesn't make it clear in the blurb that this book revolves around a call girl and one of her johns (and no, that is not a spoiler as the heroine reveals her profession in the first chapter). Not that it would've changed anything for me - in fact I found the premise exciting and original, so I would've read it anyway.
I just think it might be a deal breaker for quite a few readers out there, one that should be disclosed.
Moving on...
As much as I was intrigued by the premise and initially thought it was going to be a winner, I'm sad to say that the book wasn't able to hold my attention for long and, in some cases, even aggravated me. Here are some aspects that I found lacking:
- Character depth and development: Simon was nice but rather nondescript (being rich and having a British accent does not make him an interesting person, no matter how much Bree keeps telling me so), Bree was completely wishy-washy when it came to her convictions and she had no pride whatsoever (and don't even get me started on her running away every time things got tough), and not even Jack, Simon's five year old son had me swooning... and I always swoon over cute kids in my romance reads!
- Sexyness: considering this book was kind of centered around sex, well... why wasn't there any actual sex? As in, why did the author feel the need to let the scenes fade to black as soon as there was finally some semblance of action?
- The message: I suppose what was meant to be the moral of the story was to accept who you are, not to let the past dictate your future and to go after your dreams and what makes you happy in life. Right?
The actual message that reached me though was: let the people who are supposed to love you unconditionally, no matter what, as in your family, trample all over you, ignore you for years because they're so ashamed of you, let them emotionally abuse you until you're nothing but a pile of insecurities, BUT do absolutely welcome them back in your willing arms with nothing more than a lackluster "Sorry" on their part once they can be sure you've found yourself a respectable job and a respectable man and aren't such a freaking embarrassment to them anymore. Why don't you? (In case you're wondering: because you're supposed to have a backbone, woman!)
Gah! I finished this book three days ago and I'm still pissed about it.
But hey, I'm trying to be more of an optimist, so I'll be finishing this review on a positive note:
I really liked Sister Hannah and her adorable awkwardness when it came to anything sex-related. And Macy. I liked Macy.

This book had so much potential, but unfortunately I think it fell short. It was a great story line, it just lacked.
First off, there was so much inner dialogue it drove me crazy. I could skim through pages and not really lose anything.
Second, this story is based on a girl who has sex for money. In theory you expect to read about that; but in reality sex is skimmed over in this book. This bothered me because she makes a big point to say how she remains emotionless with her clients, but we get no glimpse of how she does this during sex with them. I also would have liked to read how was sex different with Thursday afternoon as compared to the others.
Parts were drawn out, the ending was no surprise.

This book is amazing! I couldn't put the thing down...I tried reading whenever possible because I just wanted to know what happened. It's a must read!

Bree, an escort, meets her Thursday Afternoon match Simon, and the two start thinking that they deserve better than their current situation. When an unfortunate incident happens, Bree begins to rethink her chosen career and Simon is there to help her make a change in life. The two develop a strong emotional and physical relationship.
This was an excellent read. I loved the development of the characters and the bond that Bree formed with side characters in the story as well especially Hannah. I also loved the epilogue the author wrote. Great read and I look forward to even more by this author.

Loved the title of this book when I saw it. However, the whole thing was so unbelievable to me and actually quite a light and fluffy story. I think it's because Bree kept glossing over what she did for work. Realistically it would have translated into her life more, yet she treated it as just a crappy job. I then didn't believe the whole Simon thing either. If they had met under different circumstances and he didn't know her profession, then I could have bought the whole thing, but it just didn't gel for me. SO for that reason there was zero chemistry between them, but a definitely great friendship.
I really liked Bree's internal dialogue and her friendship with Hannah. That was probably was my favorite part!
The romance was a snooze fest. The sex scenes were very fade to black they only mentioned that they have sex. Then there's the kissing -it was not very descriptive, just so very bland. I just could not feel the chemistry. At 70% I was really struggling to get through this still.
Bree had a falling out with her brother, but they reconciled. The reconciliation was the most bizarre thing ever. They had spoken for years and then the switch was flipped just like *that*. It just didn't seem believable. And then she happily went on her merry way.
* a bit of a spoiler * I also could NOT get over the job that Bri was offered. It was so ridiculous and anyone with any kind of brain in their head would not give a prostitute the job of watching their kid. To top it off Simon was away on a business trip she got absolutely trashed drunk. I would be furious if someone was watching my child and the babysitter was drunk out of their mind. I'd be pressing charges! He just laughed like a moron.
One of my very least favorite plot lines is when one character leaves the other for the sake of the benefit of the other person. "It will just help the other person to let them go." I cannot stand that storyline and that's what happened here I did a massive eye roll.
Then there was a "sad part" and it just felt so contrived. I think that's the problem with this book. It was all surface and all telling but I never got attached or felt any connection to the story.
And the final nail in the coffin -the epilogue was so confusing and I could not understand what was going on. It would have helped to have said 20 years later.
Rec this? Nope. It just didn’t have any depth to it. I never connected or believed any of it. Everything was always solved with the snap of a finger. However, if you want a light read this actually might work out just fine of you. Check your friends' reviews. Good luck!

I LOVED this book! The story line was new and interesting. I like that Bree did what she had to do , she was a very strong main character. I also really enjoyed her friendship with Hannah, it was cute and fun. Simon was a great character too, he was well developed and I felt that the relationship between him and Bree was authentic and heartfelt. It was also nice to have a little bit further look into the future of the characters at the end of the book. This story was adorable, heartbreaking and sincere which is everything you need in a great romance.

3.5!
To be really fair, I was not expecting to enjoy this book very much, but I read the blurb and I was intrigued. A story about a call girl who falls in love with one of her clients who happens to be a hot British single dad? Yes, sign me up, please. But as soon as I started the book I was hooked, mostly because of the characters. They were so interesting, I loved them all.
That's not to say that there aren't some issues with the story, because there are. The lack of diversity is something that is bothering me more and more lately, and sometimes I try and overlook that for the sake of the story, but still bugs me. A lot. With that said, there isn't a whole lot to complain about here. I mean, it is a story about a call girl, so if you're judgmental in any way maybe this is not for you.
Now let's talk about the characters; Bree is awesome, even though she did have moments where I wanted to shake her back to her senses, her heart was always in the right place, and I liked that. Simon is incredible, I love single parents stories and he's a huge part of why I enjoyed this book so much. Talk about dream guy! Jack is perfect, I love kids and he was almost to cute to handle, although I do teach little kids so I know there aren't children that perfect all the time, one can only hope, right? Hannah was a great addition to the story, I wish we'd have gotten to see more of her, but what we did get I enjoyed it immensely, so I'm good. Also her friendship with Bree was amazing to read about.
Another thing that I really liked was how there wasn't that much unnecessary drama, which seems to be a recurring theme with contemporary romance. Everything developed in a good pace, I was afraid that since they started their relationship with sex, things would move too quickly after that, I'm so glad that didn't happen.
I'm so happy I decided to pick up this book, it was a nice surprise and I'll definitely look for more from this author.
