This collection of Halloween stories is a pretty mixed bag of treats. Starts off with a couple tales that are more desolate than I was expecting (trigger warning for grief over the loss of a child in both). The next couple of tales are pretty tame and not really scary, but serve as great appetizers to the main course: the last story in this collection and the longest by far. #MAKEHALLOWEENSCARYAGAIN takes up half of the entire book and contains some light gore and somewhat grizzly death scenes and delivers some real nail-biting tension. It feels like a classic Halloween horror tale. Well done.

I enjoyed all of the stories in this anthology but especially the longer pieces like Lisa Morton's La Hacienda de los Muertos and Mark Allan Gunnells #MakeHalloweenScaryAgain. My favorite story was Kevin Lucia's The Rage of Achilles. Highly recommended.

How can you go wrong with a collection of short stories by these authors? The story by McCammon alone is worth getting this book. He truly is a writing genius and should really be up on the same pedestal that King is on. Hopefully one day he will be.

I love horror story collections! Always a favorite of mine, there can be so much told in so few words. As usual some were more liked than others, but a solid collection. A lot of them were more heartwrenching ghost stories than horror, but those bring on their own type of despair. My favorite, without a doubt was Lisa Morton's contribution. Worth it alone just for that.

This collection of stories is very well done, I haven't come across stories like these in quite some time! Every story in this book takes you a journey you won't ever forget.

LOVED it. If you are looking for a great scary anthology, this is it!!! Some of the stories weren't my favorites but since they were so short, I was able to move on to more.

Stellar book from one of the editors that brought us the Dark Screams series. Every single story is brilliant and horrifying. Perfectly suited for a rainy night by the fireplace.

This was a decent collection of stories with better than others. Some seemed reminiscent of Twilight Zone episodes but never lived up to the quality of writing or the level of surprise as I had hoped.

Even though I have only just read this it was a great book. The Halloween stories were a very enjoyable and interesting read. I liked all the individual stories and found them to be easy to keep reading and losing more time than I expected. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone. The final story has been left with an option for a carry on book that I would definitely read

This was a collection of stories by various authors all taking place at Halloween. The stories vary in nature. They also vary in the audience they are serving and in the quality of the story. Some of them I liked and some of them I didn’t.

This omnibus was a bit of a mixed bag. Something easy and mindless to read on the commute, no great standouts stories or writing though.

A good book to read on Halloween! My favorite story was La hacienda de los Muertos, about the legend of La Llorona, a wailing dead woman looking for her lost children.

Halloween Carnival is a collection of 3 short stories and two novellas. It would’ve been perfect reading on Halloween night but I’m a slacker and watched movies instead.

Strange Candy by Robert McCammon

A man thoughtlessly and rather stupidity (if you ask me) eats a strange looking piece of unwrapped candy out of his child's Halloween bag. Seriously, who does that?! After ingesting the gross thing, he finds himself no longer in his living room and begins to meet strangers who give him final messages to pass along to their loved ones. He writes nothing down but manages to remember it all. Ah, to have such a brain, what must that be like? Anyway, it has a twisty-twist at the end. It’s sad and I really enjoyed it all. 4 Stars

The Rage of Achilles or When Mockingbirds Sing by Kevin Lucia

Father Ward wasn't expecting a visitor on Halloween but he got one anyway. A grief stricken father begs for absolution. This is another sad story about love, grief and regret and a dedicated priest who witnesses the supernatural. It’ll haunt you with its beautiful sorrow. 4.5 Stars

Demon Air by John R. little

This story? I don’t know what it was besides a great disappointment to me. A woman is on a flight to find herself and she does a lot of navel gazing for most of the story until things finally go strangely awry. When the pilot thanks everyone for flying “Demon Air” I was entranced. Gross things begin to happen, passengers are tormented and then it abruptly ends and the fun is over nearly before it’s begun. Such a tease! This story had quite a bit of promise but in the end was a total let down. It felt rushed and unfocused and as if two stories were smashed together and neither ended up satisfying in the end. 2 Stars

La Hacienda de los Muertos Lisa Morton

Trick is a washed up actor ready to film a horror flick in the most haunted town in Mexico. Before the film can get going, Trick must deal with the supernatural. I thought this was interesting but pretty standard stuff. It wasn’t sad, or horrible or particularly scary either. I’d give it a 3.

#MakeHalloweenScaryAgain Mark Allan Gunnells

A horror writer posts a hashtag on his Facebook page hoping to drum up a little interest in his novels but he attracts a weirdo who takes it way too seriously instead. Now he’s involved in a murder investigation and spends the days leading up to Halloween hunting down the madman terrorizing his town. This was a decent, if slightly predictable, tale of mystery, murder, and Halloween that kept me turning the pages to discover if I was right about the killer and I was! I feel so smart :) 3 Stars

The stories in this collection are fun, but uneven in quality. Some are really great, like The Rage of Achilles or When Mockingbirds Sing, while others, like Demon Air, are mediocre at best. Definitely a fun Halloween-time read, though!

Great collection of scary stories. Great Halloween read.

I read the blurb for this and thought 'Oooh, I'd like to read that'. Then I realised I already read it in June, and had completely forgotten it. Which isn't really a good sign. The only story I can remember the faintest thing about is Lisa Tuttle's, which is pretty vivid in my head (and the one that made me realise I'd already read the book). But then, Lisa Tuttle is always good.

If you're looking for some short, creepy reads, this isn't a bad book. But there's a lot better out there.

A great collect of authors. I'm a fan of these anthology collections. It's a great way to find a new favorite author

A very solid anthology. It was nice to read a story by Robert McCammon again. The last 2 stories are the longest in this installment but neither drag. Definitely worth checking out to get into the Halloween spirit.

Paranormal genres are new to me, although I have tried a few vampire/werewolf/shapeshifter ones enough to know I don't like them. I like the spooky, ghost and what the heck was that, it could be true kind of stories. I was delighted in each of these short stories. Normally in anthologies, you like may be 1 or 2 stories, but this book was great. Each story was spooky and creepy enough to make me wonder if it could happen. Very enjoyable, and I recommend it.
