Cutie’s Big Adventures: Cutie Meets Mr. Lizard by Felicia Di John is a wonderful story.
Cutie is a sweet, curious and adventurous dog who lives in a house in the desert. Her mom Ava Rose is six years old and loves Cutie very much. She would like to play with her all day, but she must go to school. Cutie is never happy when her mom leaves her for school because that means she will be home all alone. So today, Cutie decides to go outdoors by herself to play. She explores the desert around her, makes a new friend, and finds that some animals eat strange things. She is having so much fun that she almost forgets to get back home before her mom arrives.

I read this book to my 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade students. They loved the book and begged for more stories of Cutie. The story was captivating and the pictures appeared to jump off the page.

I give this book 5/5 stars.

I received this book from The Cutie Series Co. and Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), Members' Titles via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

It's cute and it's clean, but it has a few things that need clarification for a child. A six year old owns this dog. There is never a parent present at Cutie's house. Cutie is tired of yucky dog food. So she walks out an open window, coping a cat, she climbs down a tree to get outside. Be sure to tell a child that reads this that Chihuahua's, dogs in general, can't climb down trees. Windows shouldn't be left open because their dog could be missing instead of meeting a fun lizard. The child I shared this with asked me how Cutie got back inside. Over all it's a cute story. There's still no place like home, but make sure a child reading this has addition information.

My copy came from Net Galley. My thoughts and opinions are my own. This review is left of my own free volition.

I fell in love with this picture book almost instantly! Just look at the front cover of the book with the adorable Chihuahua and those HUGE ears! I can’t think of a better name for this dog than Cutie! (I must admit I am a huge dog lover though!!!!!)

When Cutie’s mom (a six-year-old girl named Ava Rose), goes to school one day, Cutie decides to venture outdoors and explore. The reader realizes quickly that this dog is full of curiosity and is definitely seeking some adventure in her life. As she explores in the dessert near her house, she gets scared very easily! She quickly makes a new friend however and notices tht they have some very weird eating habits. Her day is over before she realizes it and knows she needs to hurry home before Ava Rose gets home!

My first graders were totally engrossed with this book. It seems like they looked at every detail of the pictures and they couldn’t help but show their excitement with their friends.

This was a fun book to read to my students and am certainly looking forward to reading other adventures of Cuties that may come along in the future.

This book is cute. I will give it that. I like the idea of pets running around and doing thing behind their owners backs. I know this is meant for a very young age group, but I am honestly not sure how interested the children I know would be. It is short and simple, perfect for beginning readers, or to be read out loud to toddlers, but I still think there should be a little more to the story.

The artwork is cute and I am curious how the physical book would look. In the ebook, the art and text seemed oddly placed.

I am not sure if this is the final copy or not, but there did seem to be some formatting errors and some grammar errors, as some of the sentences sounded off.

Such a great book. The story is really great. The sentence are simple an easy to understand. The illustrations in this book are very colourful which makes it interesting for kids. I would recommend this book for Mum's and Dad's who read to their children and for children to learn how to read.

What caught my eye on this one was the chihuahua's big ears and the fact it's set in the desert. I live in New Mexico which has lots of desert and they named our local baseball team the Chihuahua's! I needed to read this book...

The Cutie Series Co. and Net Galley allowed me to read this book for review (thank you). It has been published so you can get a copy now.

Cutie is home and bored while his mom goes to school. He decides to sneak out the window and climb down the tree to go snooping around outside. The tree is scary but he makes it. The first animal he finds is scared of him and runs but Cutie runs, too.

The lizards are a bit plain and don't represent any danger. Cutie ends up staying at their house for the day and playing with his new companion. He has a good time.

Then he sneaks back home and finds that food he rejected in the morning tastes better now. After all, it's better than eating ants like the lizards do!

Cutie's ears helped keep the story alive and interesting. I wonder what Cutie will do next?

This story is every wordy. It seems to be a full on rush of words. Maybe that is to illustrate the typical hyperactivity of a chihuahua or maybe it's just the author writing as they would speak. It causes the story to lag and this reader to not care how it ends.

The sweet tale of a puppy who seeks adventure outside after deciding his usual breakfast is boring. The 3D illustrations are well-executed. The storyline will keep children engaged but the text needs editing. That said, the author's love for animals shines through.

Cutie is a sweet little Chihuahua who misses his girl he calls "mom" so decides to make an adventure for himself. Having newly moved to Arizona, the big outdoors is hot and full of different things. Cutie makes his acquaintance with a lizard in the desert who introduces him to new foods and adventures. Cutie's Big Adventures: Cutie Meets Mr. Lizard is a cute little book that has entertaining colorful pictures and adventures for you preschooler.

Cutie lives in a house in the desert along with her six-year-old human—who is called Mom here—and her family. Because the kid goes to school every day, the curious kitty . . . I mean, Cutie goes exploring to pass the time. Being also tired of dog food, the Chihuahua turns the expedition into a hunt for, of all things, spaghetti and meatballs. First mission is to find a way out of the house, and thankfully she’s smart enough to climb onto the windowsill rather than simply jump through the window.
Even talking animals seem to be just as bad as humans at communicating. And anyone who’s spent time around a Chihuahua knows that they don’t need to be scared to shake, though in this case climbing down a tree will certainly do it.
So remember to be happy for what you have, because there’s nothing like a bowl of live ants to make you long for the same ol’ puppy chow.

Cutie is an adventurous Chihuahua that decides to go out and explore the world when her mom gets on the bus for school. Cutie's goal: find something other than this same old puppy food to eat. Her adventure leads her out into the desert where she meets Mr. Lizard and has a fun time!

Kids who love dogs will enjoy reading about Cutie's adventure.

This is from an advance review copy for which I thank the publisher.

The first in a planned "Cutie's Big Adventures" series, this story is about a Chihuahua named Cutie, who lives in the desert and is just finding her legs as a little adventurer. She also lives up to her name! In her first trip outdoors, bored with her puppy chow and looking for some excitement, Cutie sneaks down the tree outside the upstairs window. If the cat can do it, why not the dog? No argument from me!

Cutie heads out and meets the lizard family, who seem to enjoy eating ants. As hungry as Cutie is, she isn't that hungry. She returns home and enjoys her puppy chow after all!

I liked this story, and Terence Gaylor's 3D-effect artwork and fun, colorful pictures were cute as a button that's really cute, and has a button nose. The story by Felicia di John is simple and easy to understand for young kids, and teaches a lesson that maybe the grass isn't always greener - especially in the desert! I recommend this one.

Very cute and interesting book about a little dog meeting new friends. I love that the setting is not a park with lots off grass and trees! More realistic.

Cutie is a rescue Chihuahua who loves his mom, 6 year old Ava Rose. Like all things, the same old, same old gets boring. Cutie heads off outside to find something new and different to eat. He finds a lizard and they become friends. He visits with the family, but does not eat their food (live ants). When he heads home, so that Ava Rose does not know he got out, he realizes that his own food is yummy and eats it all up. Fun adventures (i.e. climbing up and down a tree to escape the house) for Cutie. The illustrations almost reminded of watching a cartoon. They are very large, colourful and cartoon like. Little ones should enjoy this story, but we need to make sure that they understand it is not a good idea to sneak out of the house on your own.
