Carrie Hope Fletcher is finding her voice. I very much enjoyed this original tale.

I have been a fan of Carrie's via her youtube channel for years and was thrilled when she began writing novels. I love the magical realism aspects of her books and the fact that they leave you pondering your own life. Perfect for fans of Cecelia Ahern!

Well, I don't really know what to make of this story. It really is a tale of two halves.

I absolutely loved Cherry and her mission to help people address their deepest thoughts - otherwise known as a Meddlum. I loved this idea - we all have them!

The story developed nicely - nothing too difficult, an easy read - and then bam! Another character comes along and upsets the apple cart. And from then on, it's all a little far-fetched. Yes I know that CHF likes a touch of magic in her books, but this was a cross between George Orwell and chicklit which didn't quite gel. The second half is action packed and reaches a fairly satisfying conclusion but it lacks gritty realism or "grounding" to make it work. Perhaps the author's style is too gentle for this genre (or it was just too YA for me)...

A very generous 3.5* - 4.5* for the first half and 2* for the second half.
