I did enjoy the overall premise of the book. However the characters were unbelievable and slightly annoying to me personally. I felt like the story line didn't flow very well or make a lot of sense. I tried to suspend my disbelief but everytime I thought I could get around it the characters would do something else that annoyed me. I wanted to enjoy the story more but I didn't enjoy the story. I would however read more by this author to see if I just didn't enjoy the story or if I don't like the writing in the general.

Overall this book was just OK. The story line was certainly interesting, with a little bit of suspense sprinkled in with the romantic pieces. And while I did read a copy that will likely be edited a bit more before it was released, I found the writing to be a little disjointed and missing 'something'. I can't really say what that something is, but I thought the book had a lot of potential, but just not there yet.

The main character, Donnan, was a ladies man before joining his brothers in a family business. When a hen party arrives at thier resort, Donnan becomes infatuated with Emina, the bride-to-be. After a failure of an event where he takes Emina hiking and she injures herself, the two start to become closer when the rest of the party is called away, and she claims she is unable to travel due to her injury. After reading the book, I am not sure how I feel about these characters. Donnan is a player turned obsessed with one woman. And while his previous behavior doesn't bother me, I was bothered by him blatantly lying about a situation with a woman named Peace as he describes what happened to Emina, whom he allegedly loves. It's not the act of lying, because I know why he did, I think it was the disjointed telling in the story as if he as a character believed his lie. I couldn't tell if that was an editing issue, character misstep, or something else.

As I said, the story was interesting and the book has potential, however it is one that I could take or leave.

I almost enjoyed this one but there are issues I don't I can ignore. I like Emina but Donann...I'm into playboys turned great and sweet lover once they met THE ONE.. But with Donnan, sometimes he says things that I find opposite of his actions. I particular hate him when he went upstairs with Peace...that's not just acceptable. He went... That's the issue...I don't like that.

Seaside Playboy is a short, sweet insta-love romance. Donnan is one of 4 brothers who inherited a seaside resort. They've come back to the resort to restore it to its once glory. Donnan is a man who's mainly lived his life without roots, taking pleasure as he finds it and not settling down anywhere. But now he's back with his brothers and has taken on the position of Activities Director, so when his brother Aaron informs him that a bachelorette party is coming, he knows just what he'll do. He plans lots of activities with alcohol for the first night and sailing and hiking for the other days. What he didn't plan on was being so attracted to the brunette beauty who just happens to be the bride...

Emina is a successful model who's only modeling and marrying her fiancé because he's got leverage on her - he's sponsoring her younger brother's residence in Canada (Nova Scotia), and will take away that sponsorship and have him sent back to Bosnia if she doesn't just model for his agency, but also marry him so he can make all kinds of money off her beauty. Yeah, her fiancé is a real prince. But, when Emina meets Donnan, she's attracted to him and the way he makes her feel - safe. After one sexy romp while hiking, it's clear that it's not just attraction happening between the two. But, how can they possibly make something work if she's marrying Vitaly in a few short days, and he holds her brother's fate in his sleazy hands?

I like Seaside Playboy. It's sweet and sexy, and short enough to entertain for an hour or two. Donnan and his brothers are great characters, surprisingly fleshed out for such a short story. Donnan does some character growth even in short amount of time. I'm not that fond of the insta-love aspect, but it's necessary in a short story like this. Emina and her brother are great characters and it's nice to see Donnan become attached to both of them. Can't wait to read Aaron, Blake and Layne's stories now!

This is the second book in the MacDonald series and features the carefree playboy brother Donnan and it's a nice easy read.

Donnan is definitely a ladies man and he's happy with his single status. He's the Activities Director at Seaside Escape and as the greets his latest group, a hen party one of the bachelorettes catches his eye, she's different from the rest.

Emina is being blackmailed into marriage but can't see any way out, her number one priority is her young brother Amar and Vitaly is using him to control her.

Donnan finds himself attracted to Emina like he's never been attracted to anyone before and he finds that the thought of HEA with one woman doesn't scare him when that woman is Emina.

I had a few issues.... I know, when don't I?

Firstly for a man who knows women I couldn't believe that he felt Rock climbing, surf lessons and sailing were options a group of high maintenance bachelorettes would want to do at a hen party.

Rock climbing, surf lessons and sailing
#### SPOILER ####

I know Donnan believes Emina is unavailable but I wasn't impressed when he goes upstairs with Peace

“Whoa...slow down there.” He didn’t want to sleep with this woman, but the one he wanted was taken. His first activity meeting had been a pretty big bust, and he could at least forget about it for a few hours while he was buried deep in a woman. Finally, he gave up the struggle and let go of Peace’s hand.
Clumsily she fumbled with the tab on his zipper, opened his fly, and freed him. The woman dropped down to her knees. Life could be worse, right? He closed his eyes and waited for her lips to surround his cock. He waited...and then waited for....

Yet he tells Emina.

“My reputation precedes me. I really had no plans on having sex with Peace. I was all talk. She was way too drunk, and I’m not into necrophilia. My plan was to take her to her room, drop her off, and say goodnight.” He laughed. “When we arrived, she yanked me inside and got one shoe off before she passed out..."

To be honest, I expected more from this book. A lot more. Most family anthologies show care and attention to an overall plot line but unfortunately this one didn’t. The over-all detail didn’t change in that from book one to four, the basics were consistent (like role, birth order, reason for leaving then returning) but it was very superficial, the characters were surface only and I found it hard to finish, and things jumped around and the books read at very different pacing. I wouldn’t be going out of my way to look for other titles by these authors. 1 star.
I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from the publisher and am voluntarily reviewing it. As per, I don’t seek to fund this blog, but the book is available NOW on Amazon & other e-book retailer sites.

Seaside Playboy is the second short romance in The Mac Brothers series written by author Jennifer Conner. Thanks to NetGalley and Books to Go. Now for the advance copy.

This is the story of Donnan MacDonald and Eminia. He is not the one the brothers ever expected to settle down and the fact that he has met the woman he's fallen for is shocking. The question is will she marry him, her fiancé is holding her brother's immigration sponsorship over her head and she will do what it takes to make sure he is ok.

a good quick read

The Mac Brothers are on the cusp of strengthening their bond as they rebuild a business that has seen better days. Jennifer Conner expertly flip flops between romantic suspense and contemporary romance. I'm more enamored of her contemporary tales. Seaside Playboy is about having the courage to regain control of one's life. Donnan and Emina are both unhappy with the direction their lives are headed. Donnan has grown tired of the redundancy of his and Emina is seeking to break her cycle of making bad choices. Brought together by an old resort, can these two rebuild their lives into something extraordinary together? Seaside Playboy is as sweet as it is short. My only complaint is that I wish it was a bit longer.

A fair albeit quick story. Interesting enough to hold my interest, but keep in mind it is a novella, so everything is quick without build up. This is the story of the playboy brother and I liked it for the most part. Would recommend this book, as it would be easy to take to the beach.

This is Donnan's story, the eternal playboy, surfer and least responsible. He's in charge of the activities at Seaside and seems to be more focused on the ladies than his job. Or so it seems from the outside. He's finding it hard to live down his lifelong reputation. Truth is he's tired of it and is happy to be back at Seaside with his brothers and considering the long haul rather than the short term.
When Aaron comes to him with a big project; 10 women coming for a bachelorette party, but they want a guarantee that activities will be planned, Aaron finds himself lecturing Donnan like he's a hapless kid and Donnan's had enough. He assures him he's got it under control, even if he has to rack his brain coming up with activities to keep 10 women busy for a week.
When they arrive, the woman are loud, brash and start hitting on Donnan first thing, all of them except one, who stands in the back of the group holding one small bag and keeping to herself. He goes over to strike up a conversation and she pretty much shoots him down. When he asks Aaron who she is, she is the bride to be, Emina. A very unhappy bride to be. The other women pay no attention to her and are only interested in partying. Donnan takes it upon himself to befriend Emira, the next day they hike together and things get overheated. The steam scenes are really well written and hot.
When they come back down the hillside from the hike Emina takes a tumble and Donnan has to take her to the ER. Meanwhile her husband to be, who is her over controlling manager among other things, pick your own expletives for that guy, has ordered all of them to leave the next day for a photo shoot. They're all models and Emina is his bread and butter. She has no control, no money, no say and he holds her younger brother's well being over her head to keep her under control. I felt a throat punch was due there. When she starts telling Donnan her situation, Donnan comes up with the perfect solution. He gets a ticket to send for her little brother who has been in Vancouver for a year and brings him to the resort and sets his plan in motion. I loved it.
Guess what? Gotta read the book to find out what he does! No spoilers from me.
The whole series is a must read. 4 great brothers, each with their own story and each find themselves when they come back home, a place they never thought they'd find themselves again.
The series deserves a huge shower of stars!
