3.5 stars from me on this one! This book is an easy going read with a side of romance and lots of laugh out loud moments.

This book has tons of humour and at some points had me even laughing out loud! Anna takes a plunge and moves to her aunts run down house in Trumpsey Blazey. It doesn't take long for Anna to get involved with the events in the little village, but finds she's embarrassing herself on more than one occasion! I loved the characters and how their banter bounced off one another and I found Anna's twins really sweet.

I'll be honest, I think it started a bit slow but once you got into it it was a fabulous read. Some parts did make me think 'Really!?' but overall this didn't put me off and it just added to the drama of the storyline! At first I wasn't too keen on best friend Diane but as the story moved on I found myself loving her and Anna's mum! They were so funny!

Overall, a hilarious novel with a bit of a slow start but when you get into it you find that you can't put it down! Thank you to Netgalley and to HQ Digital for a chance to read this novel in return of an honest review.

This was such a lovely, fun read. It’s full of lots of amusing scenes as Anna tries to settle into countrylife. The cottage her aunt left her doesn’t turn out to be quite the chocolate box dream that she imagined. Then she finds her aunt and best friend decamp to the country with her.

One of the first amusing scenes is a speed dating event. After discovering that they are in the wrong village , one of the locals rounds up a bunch of eligible men. You can just imagine the cringe factor! She also gets caught out submitting a shop bought cake to the cake stall competition. Can life get any worse for Anna?!

She’s a journalist and is having to submit a weekly diary from the country aided by her best friend as the photographer.

We have romance, friendships, snobby school gate mummies and delightful children.

The cover is so gorgeous that it would immediately attract me to pick this one up and I am so grateful to have had a copy to read from Net Galley and the publisher.

This was a fabulously funny read - with a seriously pretty front cover! - and I thoroughly enjoyed following the exploits of Anna and her children as they move out of London and into a cottage in the middle of nowhere left to her by her favourite Aunt.

Along the way her best friend Diane and Anna's mum join them in their resettled life and all their lives end up changing in ways they never even thought! Her editor in London gives her the assignment of documenting their move to the country for the paper in a diary style piece, and her new life gives her plenty to talk about!

The characters she encounters from the village and school add to the hilarious fun - there are competitive mummies, hunky local farmers, the Lord of the manor - with the wonderful name of Horatio! - and some of her exploits had me laughing out loud!

As always, life doesn't run smoothly and she is also left a diary by her Aunt containing local secrets and this added a nice twist to the story, although I would have loved more of the entries from the diary, along with the Diary pieces she was writing for the paper as this side of her life did feel a little abandoned once it was mentioned in the book.

Anna also has an ex to deal with who finds out about her new life - when he wanted nothing to do with her when she became pregnant - and this book is great at showing how Anna takes to facing new challenges... however mad they are!! She is quite a headstrong character and often writes her own narrative which means she is very quick to judge without listening, and this does lead to some awkward situations!

Highly recommended as the perfect summer read and I guarantee it will have you chuckling in no time!!

This book started out a bit on the slow side in my opinion and I wasn't sure what to think at first, but soon it picks up and the comedy ensues as the main character, her children and her friend try to adjust to life in the country.

I liked the boisterous characters in this book because you never really knew what to expect with them next. The main character's internal thoughts are good for a laugh and a head nod of agreement. I think any woman that has children will be able to easily relate to the struggles depicted in this book. The romance is creative and fun and the side characters really bring the story to life.

If you are looking for a book that has a setting you can really get into where you can use your five senses to explore the worldview of the characters, this is a good book to choose.

Recommended for those who like their romances to be fun and lighthearted.

3.5 "You suit the country life." Stars

I'm all for an easygoing romance set in the British countryside and that's what Lottie Phillips brings her readers in The Little Cottage in the Country where, after being bequeathed her aunt's cottage, journalist and single mum, Anna ups sticks and exchanges the hustle and bustle of the city for the more laid back lifestyle of village dweller.

"...maybe Trumpsey Blazey needed a bit of livening up."

Anna doesn't take long to get herself in some amusing predicaments, all in the name of trying to fit in with the locals and in creating content for her column on life in the country. And when her BFF and her Mum arrive, between the three of them and Anna's 5 year-old twins, Freddie and Antonia, the giggles are a plenty.

"...she’s a bit off with the fairies."

Overall I enjoyed, although there were a couple of things that I felt let the story down a little, the first being Anna's column seemed a wee bit forgotten along the way and I thought her Aunt's diary was going to play more of a role, and secondly the pacing of the romance felt a little sudden and insta when it came to a head, although there's no disputing the Lord of the Manor, Horacio Spencerville was a wonderful character—I just would've liked more build-up and more of him and Anna together.

"I don’t exactly exude class."

That said, with an engaging writing style and a great cast of quirky, fun characters, The Little Cottage in the Country is a summer feel-good read, Lottie Phillips did enough to keep me reading and as far as firsts go, it was a pretty good one.

Just finished this book which was kindly supplied by NetGalley.. Loved it. I laughed my way through it. The plot was definitely a bit overshadowed by the characters who were all delightfully flawed, unique and extremely funny, but It did lace them together in what was a very entertaining story. I highly recommend this book as a piece of light hearted reading. I'm looking forward to the next book by this author.

A sweet and charming story set in the countryside of England. Made me chuckle and really liked the characters. The only thing or two that I didn't like was that Anna kept threatening about going back to London, even though she didn't like it there. And Horatio's mother was irritating as well. The part where his wedding announcement is put in the paper and her threats seemed out of place. Other than that, I liked the story, the characters, the writing style, and highly recommend this book and author.

Anna is leaving behind her predictable, hectic lie in London for the fresh air of the country. She and her two children will have a fresh start, her kids becoming healthy, hale and well-behaved, while she will become the kind of mum that can whip up a gourmet meal and simultaneously be drooled over by the local men folk. Of course, it doesn’t quite turn out that way, a simple move can’t make Anna a better cook or easier on the eye. But it does introduce her to sexy Horatio, the local landed gentry. Things won’t go as smoothly as Anna hoped, but they might be a whole lot more interesting!
