Tim Seeley could have given us something great. We could have had an origin story (of either the Lost Boys or grandpa, I'm not picky), or a continuation that held the same spirit as the original movie. Instead we got this hot mess that undoes multiple parts of the original narrative and takes wild leaps to make random things happen.

Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy.

For fans of the film only - although I'm glad to see several of them say this is an out-and-out mess, where you can't tell the characters apart (or even their gender at times, FFS). Having not seen the movie, this was an ordeal, and I can't see how I would have been enamoured of the book had I ever been keen on the original.

Well, that was disappointing!

I was really looking forward to this when it was announced as I'm a big fan of the movie. The movie came out right when I was entering high school.

The art and coloring were terrible. Everyone looked the same and a bit jaundiced. Unless they were referred to by name I had no idea who was who in a panel. None of the characters had any likenesses like the characters in the movie. Star looked Asian. I kept mistaking her for one of the female vampires.

Seeley had to jump through a ridiculous amount of hoops to shape this into the convoluted mass coincidence of a story this was. <spoiler>So there's this other group of female vampires who sent Star in to infiltrate Max's group of vampires. And below the hotel where David and crew used to sleep is an ancient city of Aztec vampires. To wake them they need the blood of a vampire and a virgin. Oh, David is still alive with two giant holes in his chest. Also, the local government officials are all in cahoots with the vampires. The last page of the book was the worst. Star throws the last of the blood from the ancient vampire lady in the ocean which happens to fall right in the hands of David who's trapped at the bottom of the ocean under tons of rock.</spoiler> I've seen SyFy original movies that make more sense than this cash grab.

This was the perfect blast from my past in one of my favorite formats! So many things I love, all rolled into one. Comics and graphic novels, 80's kitsch, vampires, cheesy dialogue... just so much fun! Instead of trying to re-make a good thing, this novel simply picks up where the original movie left off and continued the story in a ridiculously cheesy yet appropriately bloody fashion.

Nothing to really take seriously here, but plenty to keep me taking in the art on the panels and the snark driven plot line from beginning to end in only one sitting. If you even think you might be interested, snag this one!

This story pics up not long after the ’87 film ends. Sam Emerson is working at video store and his brother Michael at a nursing home. The Frog brothers continue to try to hone their skills as vampire hunters.

When the Emerson’s grandfather is involved in an accident, the boys know that vampires are involved. And it’s time hunt the vicious undead once again. This new story feels a lot like the original movie, with plenty of humor and suspense. The artwork looked great, with sharp lines and a dark mood. Though, it did bother me that none of the boys looked anything like the actors from the film, so it was really hard to tell who was who. These fantastic characters makes The Lost Boys standout among other vampire series. I hope to see these comics continue in the future, as Seeley did a fantastic job with the characters and developed an original, exciting story.

The art did not strike me as particularly interesting, nor did the story. As the reader I was not drawn into the story from the beginning. I did not end up finishing it because it felt like so many other stories I have already read. I was hoping for something more original, or unique.

If you've seen the movie and ever wondered what happened in Santa Clara after Max and rest of the blood suckers goo has been washed away, here is your chance. Michael and Sam are back along with Star, Laddie and of course the Frog brothers and it seems there is a new female coven of vamps that has moved to town and they call themselves the Blood Belles. So who will win this battle of the beaches?

This is a very entertaining graphic novel especially for me since I was a big fan of the Lost Boys as a movie when I was kid (UGH dating myself there), I could still hear the sound track playing in the background as I read this graphic novel. But it was a blast from the past and I really liked it. The illustrations were awesome, as was the story line!!! It was really so cool, and I hope to actually be able to own these some day (public librarians do not actually make enough to own every book they want and live), but these actually rank really high on my list, sorry Ironman.

As a fan of the original Lost Boys, I enjoyed this continuation of the classic story. Art was great! Story wasn't the greatest or mind-blowing; however, I loved it and found the imitation of late 80s aesthetic charming.

Coll gritty art style to this graphic novel. With a lot going on in the story.
