Crafty Cat does it again! This time, she's out to get the lead in the school play, and crafts are the way to do it! The book is sweet and teaches about compromise, all while having a lot of fun doing the different crafts. My girls are older, but they would have loved this book when they were in their early elementary years.

The clear, simple layouts make this an accessible choice for the graphic-novel newbies, and plenty of clever details and playful visuals will appeal equally to more experienced readers.

Five stars for another fantastic 'Crafty Cat' book. I loved this one just as much as the previous two, and so did the first graders I read it with. Birdie, our heroine, is a smart, plucky and crafty second-grader who just wants to be the star butterfly in the school show. Of course, Anya does too. Will Birdie get what she wants, or will her nemesis Anya steal the show?

This series is a lot of fun--likable characters, a great storyline, and crafts kids can try themselves. The previous two books in the series are already very popular in our library, and I can't wait to promote this one too. Highly recommended.

Review that will be posted on April 10 on GoodReads:

Crafty Cat (aka Birdie) is super excited for the class play about insects. She is going to be the star, the butterfly. But when she shows up at school, she discovers that seven of her classmates also think they’re going to be the butterfly. Their teacher says each person needs to pick a different insect. Most of the kids decide on another insect and give up their butterfly dreams, but not Birdie and not Anya. Their teacher says they have to work out between them who will get to be the butterfly. Can they figure things out so everyone is happy and can the class pull off the play successfully?

Birdie’s crafty skills come in handy a number of times throughout this story. They help her calm down. They help her prove that other things can be cute besides butterflies. And they help her save the play (but sorry, no spoilers as to how). Craft and art skills don’t often get the spotlight for saving the day in kids’ books, so this is a graphic novel for lower grades perfect for the artsy readers. There’s no need to read other books in the Crafty Cat series in order to get this story, but if readers get into this one, they will likely be thrilled to know there are more.

I enjoyed this story except for the false information. Butterflies hatch from a chrysalils, not a cocoon. I'm honestly surprised that no one caught this error sooner and corrected it. It's a small error but one that is repeated often. I did enjoy the story and the moral behind it. I also love the fact that there are crafts at the end. I'm sure this will be a popular series.

The third installment in the Crafty Cat graphic novel series by Harper is a nice option for libraries where graphic novels for beginning readers are popular. The book covers simple themes that 3rd and 4th graders can relate to, such as fairness, bullying, friendship, and anxiety. While this volume does not explain why the character transitions into a super crafting cat (!), it does validate the character's experiences with shyness and anxiety, and provides the reader with a gentle, non-violent superhero of a different sort.

Recommend to: students in grades 3 to 5 , especially girls who enjoy art and/or girls who are introverted

The third Crafty Cat comic book has Birdie - whose alter ego is crafty superheroine Crafty Cat - ready to take the lead role in her school play about bugs. The problem is, everyone wants the role: it's a butterfly! Anya is back, and she wants to be the butterfly, too - and Anya always seems to get her way. Looks like a job for Crafty Cat!

I really enjoy the Crafty Cat series, and so do my library kids. Birdie is a likable character who always manages to find a way to make the best of a lousy situation; she uses crafts - and by extension, her superhero identity as Crafty Cat - to help her focus and see different possibilities. Crafty Cat is an optimistic book with an upbeat character, and it's great fun for kids to have as a go-to on the shelves. This volume comes with five butterfly-related crafts, including a butterfly with moving wings, a hair clip, and a bookmark.

Crafty cat is a cool persona for kids who need a little push to do brave things. The book also has some cool crafts that readers can do after reading the story or while reading.

Crafty Cat and the Butterfly Battle was a fun early read. My young daughter loved the illustrations and quick, simple text that accompanied it. The storyline was something that many children will be able to connect with and it moved quickly enough to hold the attention of even the youngest readers. I am looking forward to sharing Crafty Cat with my class and seeing what inspiration follows.

Crafty Cat learns a valuable lesson about cooperation - and how to help out a classmate with her crafting skills. Adorable illustrations, a sweet story, and a couple of easy-to-follow crafts in the back.

Birdie is back and she, once again, has to face off against bratty Anya. This time it is over who gets the "lead" role in a classroom production. Birdie's love of crafts and knowledge helps her to take the high road.

Daughter and I adored this new graphic novel, 2nd in the crafty cat series...I can predict this will fit the nudge for younger graphic novel readers. Love the illustrations and storyline, and craft in the back is a huge bonus for kids..

Adorable as always. I really enjoy this series, especially as Birdie grows and changes in each book. She only had a few brief moments of almost brattiness towards the beginning (and Evan has the patience of a saint a lot of the time), but I can definitely see that she's growing and improving in regards to that childish flaw. Anya, on the other hand, lort that character. I know we need a foil to Birdie and that it's good for Birdie to see her own bad behaviour reflected at times through other characters, but I kinda wish Anya could do some growing up as well. I especially wish the teachers in the story could do a little more to call out her brattiness and bullying behaviour. Having a nemesis for Birdie is all fine and good, but Anya's constant bad attitude and rudeness is very much wearing on me. Otherwise, this is another addition to what's already a sweet, funny juvenile graphic novel, and I can't wait to see more.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have read both previous Craft Cat books and myself and the children have always enjoyed them. There is always a story which children can relate to, something that teaches them. Here we had several children who wanted to be the same insect as Birdy, a butterfly! There are choices to be made, and some wings to save, and who else can rise to the challenge? Birdy of course!
A lovely story with some fantastic crafts that my niece and nephew will enjoy just as much as me!

The second book in this series was not the best, but this installment brought it back for me. In this issue, Birdie wants to be the butterfly in her school play but another girl in her class wants it too, she must find a way to accept the possibility of not being the part she wants. I liked Birdie/ Crafty Cat in this issue again, she wanted something, couldn't have it, and handled it very well and I think that is a great lesson for younger readers. Anya the other girl in the issue is always the troublemaker and she is kind of a brat, I think that these books should take more time emphasizing that her behavior is not acceptable, but as long as our main character Birdie is a positive role model I think that is something.

In this issue there are also loads of great crafts, and it is probably my favorite thing about these graphic novels is the crafts - we have bookmarks, lanterns, and butterfly clip craft templates that all look like a lot of fun.

If you have a kid that loves crafts this is a great series for them and the instructions tell you everything you need.

Review will be live on the blog in march 2018

A little bit of glitter goes a long way. Great selection for makerspaces and discussions on friendship. This is a great book for all ages but would be enjoyed most by elementary age children that love crafts and projects.

Calling all makers and crafters! This book was so much fun! There's drama, not everyone can be the butterfly in the show, but thanks to some crafting and open-mindedness, it all works out. Crafting even saves the day in the end.
