The first Freda Klein title I have read, and it certainly wont be my last. I found it a little slow to get going, but that is probably due to the fact I'd not read the other titles and it took me a while to identify with the characters, but once I did, I was hooked! A scary, sociopathic murderer / torturer on the loose, with their heart set on torturing / terrifying Freda. Is it the killer she thinks is still on the loose, that everyone else thinks is dead, or is it a copy cat, someone out the get her for another reason? Read the book and see, you wont regret it!.

Dr Frieda Klein - a psychotherapist that has helped (or hindered) police investigations and crossed paths with a serial killer who developed a strong attachment and following....... but then a copycat decided to target her friends to give a message to Frieda and Dean Reeve. Where and who will he target next and what message is he trying to send? With her track record of being a "difficult woman" - convincing the police that a copycat was at work was not easy until one of their own goes missing. Will they find her in time? A gripping story that gathers pace as the story unfolds. A great read and would highly recommend it

What's not to like about a book of Nicci French?
This one is off course also, again, a great one. Full of suspense, and hard to lay down.

This book is different to many crime novels because it has a large cast of varied characters, who we get to know well. The main character, Freida, is not always likeable, making her more realistic. Although the main strand of the plot is a body being found under Freida's floorboards, and a revenge plot against her, the story has many threads, and the whole group of people and their stories are interesting. I was worried that I would lose out as this is the seventh book in the series and I haven't read the previous six; but it reads well as a stand alone, though I think readers who have read them all will get even more from it than I did, hence only four not five stars. Overall, a very enjoyable thriller. I will look out for the next one.

This is the first novel I have read by Nikki French. Although I quite enjoyed this book I did feel I was missing out by not having read the others in the series. I did feel that there were too many characters in the novel and at times it did feel rather weak. However it ended on a high which left me page turning.

With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for my ARC.

Loved the finale to this series..didn't disappoint had me hooked all the way through. However I hope this isn't the end for Frieda, I have enjoyed all of Nicci French's novels, as an author duo they tick all the boxes for me. This series has to be their best work yet.. more please

As a great admirer of Nicci French books for many years, I am never disappointed. This has been a wonderful series and I look forward to reading many more. Thanks!

Although I have read Nikki French novels before I have not read one where Freida Klein is the main character. I did not realise that this was a series when I asked to review the title. It would have been much better if I had read the previous six books as there was a lot of references to them. That being said I enjoyed the novel. It was well written and fast paced. I did find the end a little unsatisfactory and felt that a door was being left open for another in the series.

Thanks to Net Galley & Penguin UK for an ARC of this book in exchange for a review. Wow! Nicki French writes yet another 5 star book.
Dr Frieda Klein is once again right in the middle of a police investigation.
A corpse is discovered under the floorboards in her home. Frieda has always known that Dean Reeve is alive & the police now have to accept 7 years later that this is indeed the case.
More crimes are committed, her niece Chloe is drugged and kept captive for an entire weekend, her friend are badly beaten, a police woman who is also a friend of Fried's has disappeared! Is it Dean Reeve or is someone else committing these horrific crimes and targeting those closest to her.
This is a fast paced psychological thriller The reader is left wondering what is next for Dr Klein and will there be another book in this brilliant series..

Whilst I enjoyed this book, I found the first half to be very long and difficult to get through at times. Once I got past the halfway point the book seemed to flow a lot better, and I found myself more interested in the characters and events as it went on

A thoroughly enjoyable book with twists and turns until the end. I particularly liked the way the main character Frieda was portrayed, I got a real insight into her life, her thoughts and feelings, it really drew me in to the book.

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I really like Nikki French books and this was another good read, Bit surprised to be honest how this one was headed but in the end was pleasantly surprised.

This was part of a series which I had not read before. I felt it was slow to start although if you had read the previous books you may not feel this way as I was yet to "connect" with the characters. Once we got the introductions out of the way, this was the dark, twisty novel expected from Nicci. Had me squirming at parts. Well written and a brill read.

This is the 7th novel in French's Frieda Klein series. Klein, a psychotherapist has unearthered a body burried under her floorboards. There is definitely a message here and it seems to come from serial killer, Dean Reeve who has a strangely intimate relationship with Klein. The only problem is, Reeve is supposed to be dead. As Klein's friends and family are targetted, it becomes a race against time to stop whoever is responsible before anyone else is killed. I have read & enjoyed manny Nicci French books before, but none in the Klein series. Although I've clearly missed a lot of backstory, this will still work as a stand alone read. However, I think the reader would benefit from the entire backstory - I can imagine the shock of the 'is he, isn't he dead?' question being amplified many times over for those familiar with the whole story. And no, that's not a spoiler - if you want to find out, you'll need to read this book!

I like crime books!!!! A body found in Freida Klein's house leads to a fast based novel, as her friends are attacked where does it all lead. Really great book and would recommend.

Another great Frieda Klein instalment. I've thoroughly enjoyed each one of the Fried Klein series and can't pick a favourite over any of them. Started this just a few days ago and was hooked from the beginning. Feeling bereft that there are no more days in the week!

I was so so close to giving this 5 stars and I honestly thought that this was supposed to be the end of the series; going by the name of the book etc. But a lot has been left unsaid, unsolved and left out and I'm disappointed by the fact that there's STILL no conclusion to it at all. Sigh. I was looking forward to the ultimate story, that's been there from the beginning, to come to an end but once again it hasn't and it's left me extremely frustrated.

I liked the story, it was a catalyst of drama and suspense but there was nothing to guess, not like your typical psychological thriller that keeps you hanging and guessing, but it was good none-the-less. The characters have also seemed to calm the heck down too so I actually enjoyed reading them in this one. But ultimately I'm disappointed with the ending. Again, we're left with many unanswered questions that will leave you frustrated and wanting to rip your hair out.

Maybe there will be a follow on book 'the conclusion' or something but I'm not holding out much hope.

Another really good book by Nicci French. I really liked the characters and liked curling up on the sofa to read this book. Nicci French is a brilliant crime writer who writes really well and has plenty of action in her books.

Positives and negatives abound with this book. Starting with the positives: this is a book that will almost certainly keep the reader wanting to know what happens as the plot twists and turns; there are plenty of plot developments; and there is a reasonable development of suspense. However, the positives are matched by negatives: many of the plot twists take the form of rather too familiar cliches; characters are drawn from typical formats; and - most disappointingly - the actions of the police really stretch credulity beyond breaking point. Similar novels often rely on the lead character being able to out-perform plodding police investigations, but this tale also includes actions by senior officers that could not possibly be countenanced.

So far, so disappointing you may think....and yet, perversely, I am drawn to read another Nicci French novel received from Net Galley for review. As ever, one can always over-analyse any work of fiction to yield a review that perhaps fails to capture an overall impression, and this seems to be the case here. I was, however, left wondering how really tremendous Ms French's work could be if it was tweaked to address the areas identified as somewhat disappointing.

Fast paced and gripping from the beginning, it's great to welcome back this motley crew of misfits in murder. Can't wait for the next t one.
