Kiss Me in New York is a contemporary, sweet teen romance. Set in New York City on Christmas Eve and told in first person by chapters alternating between Charlotte and Anthony. Charlotte is an exchange student from England and her boyfriend, Colin, recently broke up with her. Heartbroken, she just wants to leave New York as soon as possible and arrives at the airport early. To bide her time before her flight, she goes into a bookstore and through a mix up gets a book titled Get Over Your Ex in Ten Easy Steps!. New Yorker, Anthony is at the airport to surprise his girlfriend, Maya and to spend Christmas with her, but Maya breaks up with Anthony and reveals that she has been seeing someone else right in the middle of the airport. Charlotte finds out that her flight is cancelled and she that will have to wait for a flight at 9am the next day. Anthony really does not want to go home. They are both sitting a bench in the airport figuring out what to do next, when Charlotte drops her book on Anthony’s foot. She thinks since that they have been dumped recently, they should try the steps to have an adventure or a “Story”. Still angry about Maya, Anthony insults Charlotte and then leaves. Charlotte decides to have own adventure, but ends up in the same cab as Anthony. Feeling bad about how he acted earlier, Anthony decides to try the steps with Charlotte. The steps take them all over New York and involve new looks, buying a puppy, meeting with old friends, helping people, and facing fears. Through their adventures, Charlotte and Anthony learn more about themselves and a romance between them blooms.
The story has a fast pace and good characters. Taking place in about 12 hours, the story moves fast and does not slow. The plot moves with chapters told in first person by Charlotte and Anthony, giving the reader each of their perspectives. The characters are good, but some are stereotypes. Charlotte was kind and spunky, but was much too hung up on Colin. Anthony was nice and low key, but he could get annoying with his nitpicking. Despite getting a tattoo of Maya’s name on his arm and dating her longer, Anthony was not as upset and heartbroken by his breakup with Maya as Charlotte was by her breakup with Colin. Their exes, Colin and Maya, are the stereotypical evil exes, mean and selfish. One thing that bothered me was how being a vegan was portrayed. Being a vegan is not some superficial California thing that is all about diet, veganism is a lifestyle about kindness and compassion for animals and the environment. Maya was just on a plant-based diet, she was not a true vegan. The romance between Charlotte and Anthony is not exactly insta-love. Even though they did not know each other long, Charlotte and Anthony did learn a lot about each other over the course of 12 hours and did not immediately fall in love, their feelings toward each other slowly grow. The story does not have any racy scenes, the most that happens is kissing. No fights or violent scenes either. The story ends as expected in a book that places in one day, but could have used an epilogue. I liked this book and would check others by the author team. A cute teen Christmas romance perfect for fans of Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, and The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight.

Beautiful story of young love. The book has a little bit of Before Sunrise and Sleepless in Seattle so if you like these movies, there is a pretty good chance that you’ll love this book. I also like that this a Christmas love story, I always try to get some of this kind of stories for this this time of the year. Very romantic and sweet; both hero and heroine are likeable and their story left me wanting more of them. Overall, a very entertaining read and worthy of spending an evening in reading it.

This one was pretty cute and fluffy. I would probably enjoy this a lot more if I hadn't read this in the middle of summer but rather during winter, but it reminded me a lot of THE STATISTICAL PROBABILITY OF LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT. If you liked that contemporary romance, be sure to check this one out.

"So, look for a door. Theres always a way out. There's always a new path. But you can't find it if you stand still, you know what I mean?"

I thought this was going to be super cliche. . . but it started out pretty different than usual. IT was a very unusual start that left me impressed and really kept me reading.

While the plot in general is kinda cliche, the style of how it was written is pretty unique, appreciated the little twists of. . . well. . . everything to be honest. The character-to-character interactions are pretty cute and I enjoyed them a whole lot. But, I felt like everything was happening too fast, in a way.
I love the idea of having a book that 'helps you forget about your ex',,,, i am amused by the whole idea of it.

This had a very anticipating and intriguing writing style.

Appropriate for teen and YA readers who are in need of a romantic read. XD

Thank you NetGalley and Kids Can Press for the ARC.

Kiss me in New York is a quick easy read. It's about two people who come together after a nasty break up.

Charlotte and Anthony meet at JFK airport where Anthony was dumped right infront of Charlotte after his long distance girlfriend, Maya returns from California. While Charlotte who's boyfriend dumped her two weeks before is on her way back home in England.

The stroy starts when Charlotte's flight get delayed due to bad weather and Anthony on the other hand is in no mood to go home to celebrate Christmas eve.

It might sound like a clichéd serendipity meets November 9 insta love story but it's definitely not. I was proved wrong as well. The story takes place in a span of eight hours, which sets the perfect pace for the book. The book will make you chuckle at times, frustrated at a certain character's decisions and then make you hold your breath towards the end. Definitely a breather after reading emotionally heavy books or a long series. I'd totally recommend it!

So Kiss Me In New York was a book I requested since it had all the elements I usually enjoy in a rom com, it's Christmas time , it's set in New York City and the meeting of both characters is in the airport. Add the fact that both Charlotte and Anthony are really characters you could get into gives me a new adult rom com that becomes memorable. I really love how the story develops between these two. The writing was humorous, honest in its reflections about human emotions and wonderful in the way it incorporated the magic of the season in New York City with Charlotte and Anthony's evolving relationship. Perfect for the holiday season.

Hi Munchworms!

I was on a NetGalley-spree lately - you know, where you go through the ARC's you don't need to be approved for - and I came upon this little gem.
No need to hide that I was, once again, in a romantic mood when I picked this one, haha. But come on, the title? And then this cover?
It's like... Here, let me give you romance, and a huge city that you would love to explore one day. Oh, and let me add some Christmas feels and snow to that as well! Maybe I should also add that my favorite color is blue and... That's the only color represented here.
Yup, I was sold. I wanted to read that book. I needed to read it! Nobody stopped me, so I did. Ha!
It's Christmas Eve at JFK in NYC.

Charlotte is a British student, waiting for a flight home after the worst semester of her life. Anthony is a native New Yorker, surprising his girlfriend at the airport after three months apart. Charlotte has just been dumped, and Anthony is about to be dumped, right in the middle of the holiday crowd.

Charlotte's flight is canceled when a blizzard blows in, and Anthony can't bear to go home. So, they set out into the city together, clutching a book Charlotte picks up in the airport gift shop: Ten Easy Steps for Getting Over Your Ex. For this one night, they'll focus on healing their broken hearts ... together.

Step-by-step, the two struggle to put the past behind them. But the snow is so enchanting, and the holiday lights are so beguiling, that soon their shared misery gives way to something else. Soon, they're not only over their exes --- they're falling for each other.

Then a subway ride splits them up by mistake. Will they reunite before Charlotte's flight leaves New York forever?
I really don't have much to say about this book, apart from: just pick it up already! I know it's Summer - yes, I'm dying in this heat as well - but that makes me long even more for those cozy winter days where you can just curl up with a book and a mug of hot chocolate.
Or you can be like Charlotte and be stuck at an airport when your flight's been canceled.
This book is beautifully written. It reads like a freight train, honestly. Especially the way both Charlotte and Anthony have the ability to ramble - but especially Charlotte. That rambling is written in such a way that you're actually rambling with her in your mind. I thought that was amazing, especially since I caught myself doing that multiple times, haha.

I haven't just danced around my point, I've moonwalked and Gangnam Styled.
There are also times that you just have to laugh out loud. Or when you're cheering for the geekish references. Yes, Harry Potter is being mentioned, ha. But that's not the only one!

Both characters really are amazing and easy to relate to - I mean, who hasn't had a break-up at the most inconvenient of times? I know I have.
You just notice the way they're growing towards each other, but also separately, on their own. They're finding some peace for themselves and that makes this book a wonderful read.

I cannot find one negative to this story, so I'm giving a 5 / 5!

Kiss Me in New York is a beautiful winter romance about two brokenhearted people crossing paths, deciding to spend Christmas Eve together. Will the ten steps to get over their exes bring them closer together?

As for my famous munches... I'll have to go with what I said earlier. That amazing, giant mug of hot chocolate. Yes, please! Now while I'm writing this review I know I never took a picture of my hot chocolate before so I will definitely need to add this later on. Maybe if this heat wave ever ends...

I absolutely loved this book, I don't even know where to start! As you will have read by the blurb, this book is about two strangers who haven't had the best luck in terms of romance; they meet by chance on Christmas Eve at JFK and somehow end up roaming the streets of New York City trying to make themselves feel better with the guidance of the book.

The romance of this book was so cute and fluffy, exactly the type of contemporary I love to read! Although I think my favourite thing about this book is that it's a Christmas romance. I spend the summer months dreaming of winter and Christmas and so coming across this book mid-July was the best thing in the world! The story was so wonderful I could place myself right inside the world of Charlotte and Anthony. As the story is set in NYC, it didn't really require much description which is absolutely fine because we all know what city streets look like! Plus, Rider's fantastic writing of the dialogue between Charlotte and Anthony along with descriptions of their interactions kept my focus solely on the characters, I barely thought about the specifics of the backdrop!

As a Londoner, I look forward to Christmas all year round to see all of the decorations and lights that are put up along Oxford Street and Regent Street, I look forward to going to all of the big department stores and wandering for hours, but most of all I feel like the people are happier and more light-hearted around Christmas time! It really did make a nice change to think about the way New York City would look at Christmas (along with some prompts from Home Alone 2, I know it's shameful) and it made the story that slight bit more whimsical, especially by the appearance of snow! Reading this book really made me feel like it was mid-December, it was fantastic to really think about a time where I won't melt in the heat!!

Anyway, enough about winter, Kiss Me in New York was such a feel-good read! The story contained all of the elements I love reading about from tight-knit family scenes to kindness to strangers. The development of the relationship between Charlotte and Anthony was slow and gentle but in the best way possible, nothing felt rushed and the characters just fitted into place as if they had known each other all their lives. The dynamic between the two was great, making it a real joy to read! While the book focused on them as a pair, it also showed some greatly strong themes of self-care and realising that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Their step-by-step guide led them on a new path and assisted them in realising that heartbreak isn't doing to dictate their lives.

Charlotte is such a strong character too! Sometimes it can be hard to stop a city swallowing you up and especially when her situation was dumped on her but she managed to pull herself through it and she made the best of it. She kept herself upright (with some help from Anthony) despite everything and that is something I really admire in a character. Anthony wallowed a little bit more than Charlotte did but he slowly became more open and picked himself back up! The growth of both of the characters was great and I loved that they could simultaneously support themselves and each other.

I'm going to have to stop myself there because I feel like if I continue then I'll just ramble and start repeating myself even more. Basically, I loved this book and my only qualm is that it wasn't longer. If I hadn't paced myself I would have devoured it in one sitting!

I definitely recommend this book for a fluffy winter romance read!!

This was a pretty cute book, although it took me a while to get into the story. The characters are quirky, and a little zany, and their meet cute is pretty unique. Overall, I really enjoyed it.

Cute story. At times i felt like the characters were constantly telling me how much better the other was than their ex but overall a nice little romance. I felt like i was traveling through New York with Charlotte and Anthony

Started off pretty good but got cheesier and cheesier as it went on. Still pretty sweet though, and I was in a good mood. Although, I read this sunbathing at the pool which was possibly the totally wrong time of the year??? It was an easy and enjoyable read though, even if Macy's at Christmas made me sweat even more at the thought of snow and cold air and warm coats.

Lovely setting. Perfect storyline, and wonderful setting. All came together perfectly. Couldnt have changed anything to make it any better

Let me first say that I wish I had read this at holiday time! It was cute and quirky, and just the kind of sweet story that you like to read around Christmas. That comes from me, and I am a Halloween child all the way. It reminded me a bit of Dash and Lily's Book of Dares, but with a puppy.

Let's face it. Puppies make everything 10x better by proxy.

I enjoyed the characters, and how they came from two completely different worlds so to speak. It was fun to read as they got to learn one another, and to sort out who they were as people too. They started out being so down in the dumps and brokenhearted, and by the end you were just rooting for them.

There was some room for tweaking and improvement here and there, primarily at times the pacing. It felt like so much more time had passed than it had actually been, and every now and then that threw me off. That's probably just me though, and not the author.

Also the eARC I received had a funky layout, so now and then it took me a few paragraphs to sort out who had the perspective in that particular chapter. That, again, is no fault of the author at all but was some sort of issue with the file I think. I really don't have any complaints though, and I need more cute Christmas stories in my life this coming winter!

Kiss Me in New York by Catherine Rider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

When I first picked this book up I was a little on the fence with it. It sounded like it was my type of book, but it seemed suspicious because the description was just too good to be that good.

But I ended up really liking this book. Kiss me in New York was one of those books that have a 24 hour time line in it.

A girl's boyfriend breaks up with her and she gets stranded in the New York airport on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. (I wasn't clear on that detail. She bumps into this guy and he buys her her book for her...and it was a breakup book. What happens in the rest of the book unfolds a cute story line.

I pretty much read this book in one setting even though it was a PDF book. (I have a thing against PDF books. I just don't like the format.)

But it's actually good when a book makes you forget what format you're reading because that also says how well a book is.

I'd recommend this book to anyone that wants a quick read that's romance. It's kind of in between YA and new adult because they're about to be college students.

I also really liked the cover a lot. Kiss me in New York is a five star read.

This is such a sweet short festive read with the story taking place in one night. I am a sucker for Christmas stories and when you throw in Christmas in New York then I just cannot pass it by.

I just wish that I had read it in wintertime wrapped up in a blanket and drinking a hot chocolate!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an arc copy in exchange for an honest review.
