A Minor Fall by Price Ainsworth was an entertaining law and personal drama novel. A brilliant attorney, making a few lapses in judgement in his personal/love/family life, causing his world to tailspin. Thank you NetGalley, the author and publisher for the copy for review. All opinions are my own.

This is a book about someone, Davy, a lawyer, has a case that makes him question everything in his life.

YOU KNOW WHAT, DAVY?? I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR STORY. I HATE when people do stupid stuff in books without any regard for their family, and then bitch and moan about it. How about being a decent human?? Not doing shitty things??

This book wasn't really for me. Too much sex and too little actual development and good plot, also in my option a bit too weak on the thriller/legal stuff since it was promoted as such a book.
Its not a bad book overall just not what one would expect from the summary.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with this advance copy in return for my honest opinion.

I was very torn about how many stars to give this book. First, it really isn’t the kind of book that appeals to me. It started with a lot of gratuitous sex and, quite frankly, I don’t care to read that genre. I do, however, love a good legal thriller so I kept reading and that’s when it started to veer off in another direction again. This is definitely not a legal thriller. Sure, there is some legal stuff thrown haphazardly into the plot, but it appears to be an afterthought. This is really a book about the ruination of a marriage by the husband, who happens to be a lawyer. And I must say, he did a splendid job of ruining his marriage. I certainly don’t want to give away any spoilers, but what a despicable person! I had to keep reading just to see when he was going to come clean. The book stands on its own, and is engaging. Don’t pick it up if you are looking for a thriller or a book dealing with a protracted legal case.

Honestly cannot rate this book - I did not request it.

Not sure what interested me about this book. I found it poorly written with an unsatisfactory conclusion. If I hadn't been stuck on a plane with no wifi, I wouldn't have finished it.

I received a free ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley.

Fans of Grisham will enjoy this debut novel by Price Ainsworth. A lawyer himself, Ainsworth creates a captivating tale about a lawyer dealing with moral and legal dilemmas in this fast-paced saga. Torn between his conscience and what his firm requires, Davy finds himself stretched to his limits when forced to take a case in Kentucky where land owners claim that their land has been contaminated by oil production. Complicating matters is that his wife is his boss's daughter, and she's pregnant. Davy is at a crossroads, and more than his future hangs in the balance.

A gripping read looking at a young lawyers fall from grace. I enjoyed this book thoroughly, though felt that some of the legalspeak was excessive in parts.

I tried to read this story of a lawyer who spirals down into confusion and poor choices. I started twice but made it only to 30%. It reads like a list rather than a story and I found myself uninvested in where this list was going.

“A Minor Fall,” by Price Ainsworth is a novel written by an attorney. I spent much of my life working in the legal field and always felt that lawyers, in general, say in twenty words what we could all say in ten.

I found the book rambling on and taking turns and twists that have no relevance to the basic plot. It felt like a trial attorney trying to divert the jury from the case at hand. I will admit that I skipped quite a number of pages just to get past these annoying tangents. When I picked up again I did not miss a thing. The storyline itself could have been fine on its own. It doesn’t benefit from wandering into areas that have nothing to do with the protagonist or his dilemma.

While I admire Mr. Ainsworth’s ability to write about the law and show us his legal knowledge, his story never takes off. The book is much more than a fall from grace and a more rapid decent in the storyline that the title would infer.

I am like the protagonist’s father who is a voracious reader. This one left me flat.

Thanks to Price Ainsworth, Select Books and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I tried several times to get into this book and just wasn't able to do it. I stopped about 30% which I thought was enough time to pull me in and it didn't. I hate not finishing a book but this I just couldn't get my head into.
My apologies.

I tried really hard to get into A Minor Fall. I had a difficult time reading it and unfortunately did not finish it.

A Minor Fall by Price Ainsworth is a legal thriller about up and coming personal injury lawyer Davy Jones. He is giving cases he’s not supposed to win; however; somehow he finds a way to win and win big. After one particular case, he is given a big case by his boss, mentor and father-in-law, Timothy Sullivan. He tries to emulate him in every way. He is sent to Kentucky to represent landowners in a suit against an oil company. Beth Sheehan, a beautiful contract lawyer, is added to the team and soon the sparks fly between Davy and Beth. While in Kentucky, they have a brief affair. The stress of the affair and the pressure of the case starts to get to Davy. He starts a downward spiral which seems out of control. He begins to questioning everything. Will he lose his wife? Will he lose his job at the firm? Will he abandon law altogether?
Unfortunately, I could not finish this book. I made it through three chapters and I was disgusted that I didn’t want to continue. First, the language. There were a couple scenes when character use dirty sex talk. I don’t care what people say, it is NOT sexy. I don’t like it. Second, there is a scene as they are heading to Kentucky to start the next case, they are on a plane. Davy, pretending to be asleep, witnesses his boss and father-in-law, receives a blowjob from his paralegal! That was the final straw. I realized I didn’t care about Davy. I didn’t want to see how or if Davy changes after his moral crisis. Mr. Ainsworth is a lawyer who wrote a book. While the legal knowledge and descriptions are spot on, his story never takes off. He’s no John Grisham. I do not recommend A Minor Fall.

I enjoyed this book, written in a sort of John Grisham style. It follows a couple high powered lawyers with twists and turns. There is an underlying theme of unattended family at home of corporate fellows gone long hours and days. The protagonist is a bit of a schmuck as you will see when you read it.

Was initially excited to read this, but this didn't end up being up my alley. Giving credit to author Price Ainsworth for his legal knowledge as he wrote this story, I didn't feel much empathy for main character Davy Jessie, an up and coming young lawyer who seems to look up to his mentor the brilliant, arrogant and philandering Tim Sullivan. What doesn't hurt as well is that Davy is married to the beautiful Michelle, Tim's daughter, so Davy's life looks pretty bright when he wins a big case and his wife suddenly becomes pregnant. One night Davy makes a stupid decision involving Beth, a hot assistant lawyer and Davy's world comes crashing down, he's now left to deal with the consequences of his actions. Again, wasn't feeling much for Davy except dislike, this story just didn't make me feel anything either.

Thank you to author Price Ainsworth and NetGalley for providing me a copy of this for my review.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The character development is superb. I have recommended it to everyone I talk to about books.

This follows a hard working lawyer who cheats on his wife and experiences a huge fall out. Personally, I found this book pretty boring. The protagonist was annoying, and I didn't really care what happened with him and his career. I didn't really see the point in the multiple perspectives (they are short and fleeting), and the writing rambled on. It seems like Ainsworth was more concerned with the lawyer side of the narrative--- which was certainly the least interesting part.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I received the opportunity to read this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

A Minor Fall tells the story of a young, smart up and coming personal injury lawyer, David (Davy) Jessie. He is happily married to Michelle, who also happens to be his boss’ daughter and is pregnant with their first child. Michelle, too, is an attorney, but disillusioned with practicing law.
The father-in-law, Tim Sullivan, is a hard drinking, womanizing and wildly successful trial lawyer. Davy wants to be just like him professionally; but not personally as he is the unfortunate witness to all of his shortcomings as a man – which he holds secret.

Davy is put on a big case that he believes is a no-win situation and he fails to understand why the firm jumped in; although it becomes very clear late in the game. He is working with a consulting attorney, Beth. The collision course they are on will change Davy’s life forever and it becomes his “minor fall” (although I would suggest to you it’s not so minor in the context of the story) from grace.

The book has some really great moments of well written prose and the premise of the plot (man’s accidental fall from grace) is strong. Author Ainsworth, also a lawyer, gets a little distracted by the inclusion of unnecessary and detailed descriptions of legal challenges such as the lengthy explanations and details about TENORM and long details about medical malpractice, that could have been left out or edited down without compromising the quality of the story.

Just needs a little editing. In another foible, the author starts a paragraph with, “Remember the legislature had capped intangible damages…” by way of an explanation; and then went on to continue the paragraph in first person (Davy’s voice in this case – as the book has several voices – Michelle’s, Beth’s, the Doctor’s). It was a setup but needed to be edited differently. Another example would be the entire section on Beth and Chelsea meeting; the whole point of which seems to be to set up the finding of the poem which is later anonymously published in the law journal. This added nothing to the plot.

The author’s insertion of several of Davy’s short stories were long glimpses into how he felt about his life, but aside from being interesting, they too were a distraction and these insights could have been handled perhaps less cumbersomely and seemed to serve as more of an ego nod to the author than a plot enhancement.

All minor constructive criticism aside, it’s a good story with well-done characters who explore man’s hubris leading him down the path of his own destruction. Please give it one more edit.
A young lawyer wins an injury compensation case which shoots his life path in an entire new direction.

I found this book too predictable, I knew the plot right away and knew where it was going.
