I tried but I just couldn't find any reason to finish this book. No part of it interested or engaged me.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this book. Unfortunately, while the blurb really interested me, I have been unable to get into the book.

What can I say about that book is that I started laughing so much . The junk food, the fighting and the steam parts were all great. Autumn is so funny . I enjoyed this book it ended with a cliffhanger so be prepared.

this just wasn't for me, I requested this book at a different time of my reading taste. I liked the story and I have recommended it to people who said to like things

Its possible I am not the correct audience for this book, but I am afraid it all went in one eye and out the other. It didn't work for me as humour, or as a compelling story. Really sorry. Perhaps with a younger audience this could do well?

Honestly, I couldn’t get through this book. The language was heavy handed, the characters did not capture my interest, and I was less interested in the topic than I usually am. I enjoy a good sci fi or fantasy novel, but this one just wasn't for me.

What an unusual book! It's snarky, quirky, and very funny! Definitely a quick read.

I received an advance copy of this via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book is about exactly what the title suggests....literally (which isn't a bad thing). I didn't love it but I didn't dislike it either. I found myself starting and stopping reading this over the course of a month and a half simply because it didn't hold my interest long enough and it dragged on.

Don't get me wrong, there were many things I liked about it. The humour in it, first and foremost. The dialogue, the names of the chapters, the characters, the crazy pictures with the cow....and we can't forget the post it notes. There were sections that I really enjoyed reading, normally involving the history or dialogues with the Anunnaki. I got lost with all of the technical descriptions of space ships and various devices and I tended to skim over those sections.

I am curious to see where it's going and what the 2nd book has in store, since the first one ended on such a cliffhanger. For people who like aliens, it was well researched and presented a lot of interesting theories as well as a humourous story line. But for those of us with a shorter attention span, you may find yourself skimming and skipping over certain parts.

Holy Crap! The World is Ending!
“It was a fairly warm night, a typical summer evening in Southern California.” You know that when a book starts like that, things are gonna get crazy. There’s also what might be the weirdest intro ever, but it sure did the job of preparing me for what was to come.
Which was basically: Earth is about to be destroyed; there’s a way to save humanity; some aliens want to, some don’t; aliens are among us, some of them very sexy; a seemingly ordinary girl is the Chosen One to save the planet.
It’s really cutesy, and somehow it managed to go through the entire book without overdoing it, which might be the most impressive thing. Things get crazy, but oddly enough after a while they get a bit predictable, but at least it’s funnier than previous tries of this kind of story. Even the fact that Part 2 starts at 89% made me laugh. But the most humorous stuff has to be the funny/weird tiny full-color drawings. The cow will haunt me despite her innocent look, especially the one where she’s holding a rose and a bottle of alien wine. . . while wearing a space helmet. In another she’s holding an ankh; I don’t know if I find that more weird or more normal.
I love the contents of the ark of the covenant, so much better than Indy’s version. The historical stuff all goes together nicely. . . if, you know, aliens.
Somewhere along the line the author decided to redeem Inanna, and boy did it work! Big time! I love her now.
Okay, a lot of research went into this. Felt a bit giddy whenever I recognized something, like Gilgamesh. The material is obviously taken seriously by the author, which is why it’s such a surprise that this book was just so darned funny, and fun. You hear a lot about wacky adventures, but this one actually lives up to the billing. More than anything, I have no idea if I would run away screaming or fall in love if I ever met Amber.

Buckle up because Holy Crap! The World is Ending! Is a surprisingly entertaining, endearing, well-written sci-fi romance/romantic comedy! Despite one issue I had with the book, I found myself chuckling like mad and enjoying myself from start to (a sorta) finish.

Holy Crap! The World is Ending! Starts off normal, the heroine Autumn is a bit of an odd duck, she’s always been fascinated by outrageous things like the stars, outer space, aliens, and even the unimaginable things like pygmy cows that produce solid gold milk. Yeah, don’t ask, she’s a little on the weird side and I like that about her. Anyway, she’s minding her own business, planning an epic munch fest with her best friend and listening to a podcast when a topic catches her interest and she ends up at Barnes and Noble looking for books on that farfetched subject of Light Beings. Almost as soon as she steps into the store she starts experiencing some weird feelings, the feeling of being watched, electric jolts, and spotting THE hottest guy she’s ever seen. From there, her life spirals out of control and into outer space as she finds out that humans are basically just pawns in a bigger game, and aliens are so real. Also, she could be the one person who could save earth from destruction AND that hot guy? Totally an alien and possibly her soul mate. What else could possibly happen right?

Well, a lot. I had so much fun with this book and it was just what I needed in terms of a feel-good-but-not-sugary-sweet romance. Or should I say more like a sci-fi comedy in the driver’s seat with a dash of romance riding in the backseat on this adventure. I didn’t mind though because author Anna-Marie Abell kept me engrossed in Autumn’s out of this world journey no matter if she was oogling Rigel her alien boyfriend, thinking about food, or just trying to survive. Told from Autumn’s point of view, Holy Crap! The World is Ending! Should be picked up by anyone who likes to laugh and have fun with a good book because even if you take away the comedic and romantic aspects there’s still a solid story there that was obviously constructed through hours of research into ancient cultures and UFO theories. That’s what was really impressive about this book, the fact that it wasn’t just a bunch of slapstick comedy moments but that those moments were icing on top of an already impressive cake.

My only problem with Holy Crap! The World is Ending! Is that it ends with a pretty big cliffhanger in my opinion. Oh, I really hate cliffhangers. If cliffhangers were a person, I’d kick them in the chins and then punch them in the face. That said, I wasn’t thrilled with that BUT I could be grateful that Autumn’s story didn’t cut off before that particular moment. If it had, then this review would have gone differently. However, and this is probably the ONLY time I’ll say this, despite the cliffhanger, I REALLY enjoyed Holy Crap! The World is Ending! I am invested in Autumn and Rigel as characters and as a couple so yes, I desperately want to know what happens next. And yes, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants a laugh but doesn’t want to sacrifice good storytelling to get it. Anna-Marie Abell balances both so well that even if you don’t like cliffhangers, I would STILL recommend that you pick up this book!

Looking at the cover of the book, and reading what it was about I was very exited to read this book. Already in the first 10 % of the book, I was disappointed. It reminded me too much of a twilight novel about forbidden love. Which all in all is ok, but it is not why I wanted to read the book. I wanted a little bit more science fiction than a love novel. After about 25% into the book, the forbidden love story comes to an end, so my first through that the whole book was about that was wrong.

The rest of the book you just have to endure the love fantasies the main character have, and at some point I just got tired of reading it. Also learning that the main character never had sex before made her loose all credibility for me. How can she be so sure that a kiss gave her an orgasm when she never experienced one before?

The book had its moments, driving a space ship, flashing from one point to the other, out of body experiences, mind reading, just to mention some. And I adored the sidekick character Devon, he served as a more sane, cool guy. I think the book could have been great if the anther choose to stick to one genre. Not jumping between a full out love novel and a full out science fiction. You can have both, but not to this degree.

So, firstly I need to give you all a little context.  I. Love. Disaster. Movies.  This is a fact.  The cheesier the better to be quite honest.  2012 is probably my all time favourite, but I also love The Day After Tomorrow, Armageddon and Independence Day.  Great films.  I also have a love for the Syfy channel.  Some of the films on there are so terrible they are amazing!  Anyway, I digress.  Back to the book.

Naturally I chose this book based entirely on its title.  What is not to love about this amazing title: Holy Crap! The World is Ending.  How a Trip to the Bookstore Led to Sex With an Alien and the Destruction of Earth.  Amazing book title, and it definitely does what it says on the tin!

So this novel revolves around Autumn, a young women who is suddenly forced to address the fact that the Earth is about to be destroyed by a rogue moon.  Autumn is just a normal girl trying to find her place in the world.  What she actually finds is a super hot, sexy alien who may just be able to help her save humanity.

My first thoughts when I started reading this book were about the similarities with The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.  I love Douglas Adams novels (not the film though, sorry Martin Freeman.  Although Alan Rickman was the perfect casting for Marvin!). However, the more I read the more I realised that despite the light-hearted parts of this novel, the dark sections were far darker than I was expecting.  There was rape, murder and pillage rife in society following the announcement that humanity was over.  Mistrust of the aliens who were offering to save them caused so many people to give in to their primal urges of violence and ultimately, fear.

Once I'd finished the novel, I discovered that Anna-Marie Abell has a significant interest in learning about the Anunnaki and her research is very evident throughout this novel.  I found myself looking up some of the historical references to the Anunnaki myself (how did we survive before Google?!).  I was also interested to discover that this novel is intended to be the first in a series, and I will definitely be reading the next one.

This is a novel all about aliens, the history of Earth and ultimately the destruction of Earth.  It definitely falls within the sci-fi category, and so was out of my comfort zone, having only previously read The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and Fade Out by Patrick Tilley (FYI: I loved both) within this genre.  I now plan on exploring more sci-fi novels, so all recommendations are very welcome.

So if you like sci-fi, or would just like to try reading something a little different then I highly recommend that you pick up this novel.  It really highlighted the potential breakdown of society in light of devastating news, whilst also raising the question; How much do we really know about what is beyond our planet, and what information do our Governments really keep from us?

About this book the best I can say is that I only *liked* it although it had the potential to make me *love* it.

The plot is interesting. I enjoyed how hilariously is told, and the characters are great. But it has too many cisheteronormative in its whole (and as I remember quite problematic at times) to make me enjoy it as I could have.

That said, I'll probably give a chance to the next book. It could be better, but it's entertaining enough.

I do give the author five starts for giving the story more content by giving a lot of facts about gods etc., and for making a creative way in putting that into the story. She did a well-done job by writing a logical story.

I would have never bought or read this story if I couldn't request it here on Netgalley. So thank you for providing me with this book and exchanging me with a different genre I'm used too.

I thought the story in the beginning was a bit slow and overwhelming. So many things happening and adding to the story to make sure the ending was complete. It took me a long time to actually get the story and maintain my interest. Halfway through it took a turn, the story became more funnier and extremer in any way. I thought scenes in the ending were hilarious. The author did a very good job by adding humoristic thoughts into the story.

Overall, a very intriguing story about aliens and the rest that comes to it. I do recommend this to anyone who loves to read about aliens, the outerspace in combination with romance.

Sci-Fi + Romance + Humour? Yes, please!

I really liked this book. It's the story of two people meeting in a book store and falling for each other. Unfortunately his people are not quite pleased with this.
Plus, the world is ending, literally, and someone must save humankind, somehow.

I liked the banter, I liked the references to pop culture, ancient cultures, and the true information provided in this original story. What I did not like was long dialogues in which information was presented to the main characters instead of the MCs finding this information out themselves.

Although there is cleverness in this novel and the writing, the snark goes far over the line into sharp cruelty. Beyond that, the bizarre orthorexic eating rituals, and the descriptions of characters that were so extreme as to be difficult to visualize, made this book unfortunately unenjoyable. I think that author has talent, and that with some moderation and editing could produce a very funny work. But this isn't it.

Whilst the plot held a bit more romance than I expected and commonly read I did find it a fun, easy book to read, witty and it flowed well. A good and original story-line held my attention and I would consider reading the following books in the series.

Holy Crap! The World is Ending!: How a Trip to the Bookstore Led to Sex with an Alien and the Destruction of Earth

Yep. That’s just the title. It immediately attracted me to the book’s homepage on Netgalley and also prompted me to place a request for a review copy. Imagine my surprise when Anna-Marie Abell herself reached out to me, trying to make sure I didn’t place the request by mistake.

As I’ve mentioned in a subsequent email, I can’t thank you enough, Anna, for approving my request. I thoroughly enjoyed every word of this book, and, on the off-chance that you read this, I’d love to read the next one as soon as possible.

Now, onto the book itself.

Holy Crap! Is the story of Autumn, a fiercely funny, wacky young woman, whose overriding goal in life is to stuff her face very few days with her best friend. A radio show on conspiracy theories sends her to a nearby Barnes and Noble where she runs into an Anunnaki, who sets the ball rolling on the rest of the story.

I won’t spoil anything for you, the reader, as I want you to discover the joy of reading this book yourself. The writing is wonderfully and wickedly funny, engaging and imaginative. The way the writer explains the Anunnaki, a race of advanced beings who look like very attractive humans, makes a weird sort of sense. The characters are well-developed, and grow perceptibly with the story.

I will pay Anna the highest form of praise where I’m concerned: Her style of writing is the closest I’ve come to, to the late Sir Terry Pratchett’s.

While larger story arc is sombre, the writing is witty enough to make me let out a bark of laughter at frequent intervals.

In all, a fantastic work of fiction that merits multiple read-throughs.

Once again I wish Goodreads and all other platforms that awards stars had the half star. I would give this 2.5 stars

The title and cover drew me to this book. It gave me the impression that it will be somthing similar to Gail Koger and S.E. Smith.

I have to admit that, for me, it did not make the cut. It had laugh out loud moments, the premise is actually very good, the characters outrageous and the dialougue quite sharp. It just did not come together for me. I did not feel any connection to the characters and the story line.

It is quite sad, because this book has a lot of potential. I feel with some editing, cutting out of some history lessons, and so forth it would be very good. It dragged a bit too much.

Without giving too much away I want to gripe about the ending. One of my major pet peeves.... the dreaded cliff hanger. Seriously?

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with the opportunity to read and review this book.
