Who doesn't love perky and witty Valerie Bertinelli? She was a favorite of mine as a teenager and now I enjoy watching her cook on The Food Network. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with this cookbook as it contains some really yummy recipes and beautiful photography. The recipes don't appear to be difficult and you will also learn a lot about her life. I'm looking forward to buying my own print copy of this cookbook.

I've always been a huge Valerie Bertinelli fan and was a bit sad to learn she has a cooking show unavailable to me. Now I have her cookbook to explore.

Photos are lovely of meals and her home making it feel like I am enjoying a visit with an old friend as she shares family favourite recipes.

This will make a lovely Christmas gift for anyone loving food, drinks and entertaining

I’ve become more selective as time goes by about the cookbooks I choose to add to my already overflowing shelves; however, I couldn’t resist trying out this one by Valerie Bertinelli. A few years ago I purchased One Dish At a Time: Valerie’s cookbook that is filled her very best recipes. Since I loved that one so much, I was thrilled that she came out with a second one. As with the first one, Valerie shares her thoughts and stories about herself throughout the book.

Valerie has definitely kept up with some of the latest in food fads and added others have been staples for some time. Here is a sampling of the recipes in this cookbook: All-in-one breakfast smoothie; steel-cut overnight oatmeal; blueberry-banana-oat breakfast muffins; bacon-caramel scuffins with caramel clotted cream; Dutch baby with lemon curd; egg-in-a-bagel hole; breakfast biscuit sammies; ham, apple and cheddar sliders; lobster BLT’s; tuna melts; turkey meatloaf burgers; spinach and strawberry salad with warm bacon vinaigrette; Quinoa salad with cilantro-lime dressing; berry Kir Royale; key lime martini; mom’s amped-up snack mix; chicken satay with peanut sauce; southwestern egg rolls with salsa dipping sauce; peppered beef tenderloin; Tony’s espresso rib-eye; hamburger helpa; four-cheese crab mac and cheese; Mom’s risotto; Aunt Norma’s sauerkraut and pork; chickarina soup; Posole; lobster bisque; broccoli salad; raosted radishes; mom’s onion rings; rissole potatoes; white bread; slow cooker red beans and rice; peanut butter chocolate pretzels; mini zeppoles with marsala sauce; and homemade cannoli.

As you can see, there are a lot of recipes in this book. I’m sure everyone can find some that they like.

I received an advanced copy of Valerie Bertinelli's newest cookbook from NetGalley. It is a beautiful heart warming cookbook with delicious recipes to entertain family and friends or enjoy on a quiet evening at home. From breakfast to dinners, desserts to entertaining guests Valerie covers it all. The recipes are unique and appetizing without being overly complex or intimidating. With each recipe she begins with an introduction, then easy to follow step-by-step instructions. She includes tips and tricks, possible substitutions, or preparations you can do ahead of time. This lovely book also contains gorgeous photos of Valerie's mouthwatering food and her beautiful home. It may be added but my copy did not have a table of contents for the recipes which would be my suggestion for improvement. Valerie may be known for her acting chops but her cooking is taking center stage and I greatly enjoyed the show.

Valerie Bertinelli is well-known name in my household, so given the chance to check out her cookbook and review it, I couldn't resist! As the current star of her Food Network show, Valerie's Home Cooking, and co-host of the network's Kids Baking Championship, Valerie is comfort in the kitchen, cooking up dishes that will please anyone's taste-buds. There is a story behind every recipe, whether it was created by Valerie or passed down her through her family.

There are six chapters in this cookbook.
1. Rise & Shine
2. Happy Hour
3. A Side Note
4. Getting Through the Day
5. Around the Table
6. Finishing Sweet

The dishes are a mix of simple and complex, but all elegantly put together, and presented with beautiful visuals throughout that showcase the dishes. I thought this is a great cookbook to reach for during the holidays, family gatherings, or special occasions, but wouldn't exactly fit in everyone's budget when it comes to using this to cook from on a weekly basis.

Very good photos that let the reader see each step in the recipe. This makes it much more user-friendly!

Most celebrities aren’t shy about releasing a cookbook with recipes they claim are theirs. Many are co-written by some stranger, and it’s really doubtful that the celebrity in question actually cooks. Not so with Valerie Bertinelli. Although many of us remember her as an adorable actress in long-ago sitcoms, it seems that cooking is really one of her passions. Not only does she have her own cooking show, but the vignettes and stories in her cookbook, Valerie's Home Cooking: More than 100 Delicious Recipes to Share with Friends and Family, tend to bring her down from someone famous and inaccessible, to someone who cooks from family recipes for her husband, son, friends and neighbors just like we do. She’s still adorable, however, and that attribute is definitely reflected in this fun cookbook.

Every recipe in this book is pictured, and most of the recipes are suitable for everyone from beginning cooks to those who are experts. The emphasis is on recipes that can be made in home kitchens without help from sous chefs and other behind-the-scenes people who support professional cooks.

One of the best parts about this excellent cookbook is that the recipes are for dishes people actually want to make. And, the dishes actually turn out picture-perfect. Favorites already include Spicy Killer Shrimp Soup, Chicken with Lemon-Wine Sauce, and a quick Avocado and Grilled Corn Salad with Green Goddess Dressing. She’s included some delicious breakfast breads like Bacon Caramel Scuffins (a cross between a scone and a muffin) with Caramel Clotted Cream, and Egg-in-a-Bagel Hole. We loved the Brown Sugar Sriracha Bacon Bites, and there are several other appetizers that I’m hoping to try very soon.

Bertinelli has included down-to-earth desserts, including some family Christmas cookies. Many of her recipes have an Italian influence from her childhood, like the Ricotta Cookies with Sour Cream Glaze; these turned out soft and luscious.

This cookbook is well-organized, the instructions are easy to follow, and most of the dishes call for ingredients that are readily available. The book is also beautiful and is one you’ll want to display in your kitchen.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

I don't just cook because I have to eat or because I am the only person in my house who cooks, I cook because I love it! For me, it is a stress reliever and since I grow my own vegetables, I get to use what my garden produces during the Long Island growing season. I have a shelf of cookbooks in my library as well as a pretty extensive collection on my Kindle and I am always looking for cookbooks that either teach a cooking style I am unfamiliar with or present recipes in an appealing way. This book is full of not only delicious recipes, but also stories about the author's life, background information on the recipes, and great pictures that had me writing a shopping list immediately.
I recently downloaded this book and so far have made Valerie's Slow-Cooked Sloppy Joes, BLT Pasta, Quick Sweet-and-Sour Pickle Spears, Roasted Radishes and Mom's Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting. All delicious and I was able to use fresh garden produce in new ways. When the fall broccoli and beets are ready, I will be making the Broccoli Salad and the Pickled Beet Salad. This is just the beginning for me though, as there are numerous other recipes I plan to try.
This is a great resource with detailed, easy to follow recipes, as well as some with notes like Cooking Tip, Ingredient Note, Equipment or Make Ahead. This book will be a go-to resource for me for a long time and I foresee buying several copies as gifts for some foodie friends. Thank you, Valerie Bertinelli, Time Inc. Books and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is everything I want in a cook book. The pictures are beautiful and showcase the recipes. Valerie comes across in this book as sweet and nice as she appears on her show, and the recipes are truly "home cooking". When it comes to trying new recipes I want something easy, with fresh ingredients and that everyone enjoys. That's exactly what you get in Valerie's Home cooking. I am looking forward to getting the print edition as soon as it's available.

Valerie Bertinelli manages to do what most cookbook authors set out to do but do not achieve, she makes the book feel like an extension of herself so that the readers feel like they are in her home and want to make her recipes. The recipes are rustic, comfort food recipes many have grown up with but elevated just a notch to excite taste buds with just a bit of new flavors. There is nothing that would put off even a novice chef, making this book a perfect present for those just starting out on their own to those with many years of hosting experience.

Who did not love Barbara ( Valerie's character from a famous TV show on the air in the '70s? ) Valerie's bubbly personality comes through this cookbook and her passion for cooking actually tends to make you want to cook. Pictures are wonderful, recipes are so easy to follow and she does not use ingredients hard to find. Every chapter and a few pages in between she tells the story of why this recipe reminds her of something which just jumps right off the pages to the reader. Definitely a cookbook you could refer back to from time to time.

I love to watch Food Network. With that some of the stars are overrated. I knew Valerie had cooking skills, but never thought about a cook book. I also knew Valerie loves Lemon and Arugula. This book has recipes from her six seasons of cooking show. I thought they were picked for being the best of the bunch. They seemed like Valerie's Go-To recipes. The recipes them selves are easy to follow. The photos in the book were hi-definition, vibrant and colorful. During the review process I felt I had to try one really good recipe. While watching a recent season show, I learned about the "Lemon Love Cake" Well there is a "Strawberry Love cake." It went smoothly when I needed a refreshing dessert for the middle of summer. I made the original Lemon version. It was harder to find the Strawberry pudding. The recipe should work either way. I really wanted to make The Chicken Say-tay. But found finding the fish sauce difficult. I do live in a rural area. So that might explain it. The tips in the book are rather easy to remember. I do however think some of the "Substitutions" would be questionable. I will continue to try out the recipes as the availability of ingredients changes. I look forward to more from Valerie.

This is a terrific cookbook with lots of personal details about how Valerie cooks. The photos alone are very pretty and make the food look scrumptious. A great book to add to a cookbook collection.

I’ve been a fan of fellow Delaware girl, Valerie Bertinelli since One Day at a Time. And I adored her on Hot in Cleveland. I was flipping channels one day and came across her show, Valerie’s Home Cooking on The Food Network. I haven’t missed a show since. So I was beyond thrilled when I had the chance to check out her new cookbook VALERIE’S HOME COOKING: More than 100 Delicious Recipes to Share with Friends and Family. I’m so glad I did!

I got to learn more about Valerie from her wonderful narrative throughout VALERIE’S HOME COOKING. Her stories are enjoyable to read, and they struck me as very heartfelt. I could tell the love she has for family, friends, and food.

The photos in this book are magnificent. Vibrant and sharp, the photos of the dishes Ms. Bertinelli prepared made my mouth water. I could almost smell each dish. The photos of the actress cooking in her home, and often outside, are simply stunning. Valerie Bertinelli is a beautiful woman who seems to look better every year. In the photos of her cooking, her happiness at what she is doing is very clear not just on her face, but in her eyes as well.

As for the recipes . . . Oh wow! She has covered such a range of dishes, from super easy, to a bit more complex, using plain, simple ingredients, as well as items home cooks may not readily have in their pantries, but can certainly find at the local market. There is something for everyone. Even those with finicky tastes like mine will find many dishes to try. There are many that will certainly become new favorites in my house!

Readers will find recipes such as . . .
Four-Cheese Crab Mac ‘n’ Cheese . . . Slow Cooker Beef . . . English Lemon Cake . . . Quick Rotisserie Chicken Gumbo . . . Roasted Asparagus and Mushrooms with Chile-Lemon Salt . . . Valerie’s Irish Coffee with Lemon-Vanilla Whipped Cream . . . Spicy Killer Shrimp Soup . . . and Homemade Cannoli!
Those don’t even come close to the many amazing recipes within the pages of this incredible cookbook.

In my opinion, there is no wrong person for VALERIE’S HOME COOKING: More than 100 Delicious Recipes to Share with Friends and Family.

Valerie’s exuberant personality shines in this book. I appreciate all the beautiful photos, which are a major factor in purchasing a cookbook. The photos are colorful and make the food look appealing. My eyeballs almost shot out of my head when I saw the Tomato Soup with Grilled Cheese Croutons. That is sheer brilliance. The Egg White Frittata, Slow Cooker Sauerkraut and Country Style Ribs, Flatiron Steak Marinade, and Blueberry Cake are a few of my favorites. They are also easy to make. The Green Goddess Dressing can go on anything - salad, sandwich, any type of burger. You can even dip tortilla chips into it! It really is an enjoyable book.

I'm a huge fan of Valerie's show and was so excited to get a chance to see her new cookbook. I swear there's nothing she makes that I don't want to eat. This book takes all her mad skills and let's us mere mortals cook (or at least try to cook) just like her. It's absolutely FABULOUS! She's covered all the meals, desserts and drinks too. The pictures are beautiful and will make you hungry. I've marked my favorites and am eager to get cooking. Great job, Valerie!

This is a great cookbook from Valerie Bertinelli. She has a TV show with the same name, and the recipes in this book were either created by Valerie or have been passed down from her family and friends. Beautiful full color photographs of each recipe are included. This book has a personal touch as Valerie opens up her home and her kitchen to you like a long lost friend. Most recipes contain a section with cooking tips and/or variations to help you get the most out of the recipe.

The chapters are broken down as follows:
1. Rise & Shine
2. Happy Hour
3. A Side Note
4. Getting Through the Day
5. Around the Table
6. Finishing Sweet

I recommend this book to anyone looking for simple, elegant recipes, something other than your basic cookbook, and, of course, fans of Valerie. I received this as a free ARC from Time Inc. Books, Oxmoor House on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
