Flipping through the pages of this book I found many simple recipes I can't wait to attempt on my own. They were written out clear and concise and made me yearn for cold fall days to try some of those soup recipes.

This is a great cookbook with easy and delicious slow cooker recipes. It includes recipe variations to fit all diets: gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, paleo-friendly, cooking for one or two, and cooking for picky eaters.

Slow cooker fundamentals contains tips for picking the right equipment to suit your needs as well as other tools you might need. There is also a section for practical tips and tricks to make anyone a pro at using a slow cooker. The section containing slow cooker hacks provides alternative uses that you might find useful as well.

Beautiful full color photos accompany each recipe. The chapters are as follows:

1. Soups, Stews, and Chowders
2. Vegetarian and Pasta Mains
3. Poultry
4. Beef and Pork
5. Fish and Seafood
6. Sides
7. Sweet Treats
8. Make Your Own Basics

I would recommend this cookbook to anyone looking for easy and delicious recipes for the slow cooker, including unique recipes and variations to think outside of the box. I received this as a free ARC from Time Inc. Books, Oxmoor House on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

A really lovely updated cookbook! I've been a fan of Fix it and Forget it for years. So many of my friends have suggested it over and over but newer younger friends never pick it up. This is the best of both worlds.
Solid information on using a crock pot to cook meals and delicious recipes. With lovely photos and clean white pages.
So many new recipes I ran across that I can't wait to test out as school and busy schedules gear up in a few weeks.

Very nice book full of recipes )with pictures) and hacks. I never thought to use my old crock pot as a diffuser!!!! The recipes are broken down in categories and there is something for everyone. I tried the pulled pork recipe when I had friends over and it was a hit. Great book for anyone who owns a crock pot. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the ARC of this book in return for my honest review.

Stock the Crock by Phyllis Good is a beautifully illustrated cookbook which features plenty of slow cooker recipes. I also liked the tips, the graphics showing whether the recipe was designed for picky eaters, cooking for two, paleo-friendly, gluten-free, vegan or vegetarian. You will also find a chapter called Make Your Own Basics that features foundation recipes you can use in other recipes. Some of the foundation recipes you'll find include:

Tomato Paste
Ketchup
Cream of Mushroom Soup with variations
Homemade Chicken Broth

Some of the other recipes you'll find include:

Lasagna Soup In a Bowl
Whole Chicken Dinner (With a Little Buzz)
Eggs with Shrimp
Sausage-and-Spinach Cheese Tortellini
Creole-Style Red Beans
Homemade Refried Beans
Gingerbread On Applesauce

Overall, Stock the Crock is a lovely slow cooker cookbook almost any cook would enjoy using.

Recommend.

This book provides some great recipes for using your crock pot. It contains a wide variety of food, from soups and sauces to main and side dishes, even brownies, breads and cakes. There are even tips on cutting the recipe down for two people, as well as ways to make the recipe to fit dietary needs. I'm looking forward to trying out a few goodies myself.

Good variety of recipes that can be cooked in either a crockpot or Instant Pot.

This cookbook has 100 crockpot recipes and each have many variations for gluten-free, paleo, 'picky eaters' (i.e. less spicy) or vegan diets. The accompanying photographs look scrumptious. There are many unusual recipes including tomato paste, cream of mushroom soup, fruit butters, yogurt, fruit crisps and other desserts. There are some unusual vegan substitutions like pan cooked lentils for ground beef that I am going to try soon. The author also includes some excellent cooking tips that I have never heard elsewhere despite my addiction to the Food Network. My favorite was putting cut potatoes in a water and cream of tartar bath before cooking to avoid them turning brown while cooking, which worked great when I tried it. I will use this tip in many of my family's recipes--not just the ones in this book.

The recipes don't have exotic ingredients or spices that you have to make a special trip to the store to buy. Most of the ingredients would be in a typical family's fridge or pantry. I liked that the author included substitutions for items you may not have on hand, or just don't like, along with any timing differences that might be required. The two dishes that I prepared were simple and tasty. I'm looking forward to trying a few more soon. I only have one complaint. There is no calorie or nutritional information with any of the recipes so I deducted one star for that oversight. However, I would still recommend this book.

I want to thank the publisher, Time Inc. Books, and netgalley for the advance reader copy in exchange for my honest review. This book will be released on September 5, 2017.

This is anther great collection of recipes from this author. This book is filled with great recipes and pictures to help you to make delicious recipes with your slow cooker. What I really liked about the recipes is how easy they are to prepare and the ingredients used are not overly expensive or hard to find. Some of my favorite recipes from the book are the chicken and wild rice soup, creole style beans, and easy French dip sandwich. After each recipe there are also great tips on variations including tips for picky eaters, how to make the recipe vegan, or how to make it gluten free. I know I will be using this book often.

Slow cooker cookbooks are some of the best circulating cookbooks at our library and I am sure this will be no different. Loving the color photographs in this book as well as some of the recipes. I am sure this will be another popular book with our patrons as soon as the slow cookers come out for the fall season!

The basic cooking process for each meal in the book may be the similar across the board (as with any crockpot cookbook book), but you cannot say anything remotely similar about the recipes themselves. Phyllis Good offers up a fantastically diverse array of comforting, easy, and tast-tastic meals that can satisfy everyone including those who eat vegetarian, those who want a nice hearty dish where meat is the centerpiece, those who want a nice big slow-cooked soup to warm up those winter months, and those who want to try their hands at a dessert to satisfy their sweet tooth. For both those who adore their crockpot and those who wish to explore new possibilities with their underutilized slow cookers, this is definitely a great book to check out as soon as it becomes available,

First Line: When I bought my first slow-cooker cookbooks years ago, there were very few slow-cooker recipes available.

Summary: This is cookbook filled with authors favorite and family slow cooker recipes.

Highlights: Beautiful pictures to go with the recipes. I hate cookbooks that don't show what the food looks like. These are gorgeous! Also the extra tips. Making items for 2 or picky eater tips. Very helpful. She also includes Paleo versions. I cannot wait for fall so I can try out the soups. I learned so much reading over this cookbook. I never considered using pans inside the pot or dividing it into 2 parts.

Lowlights: Lots of ingredients sometimes get daunting. Especially when I only use them rarely and a little in each.

FYI: I am so hungry now!

Great collection of recipes for your crockpot. Love the colorful photos and recipe layouts. Many of them have alternate options for recipes including changes for picky eaters or vegetarians. A good addition to any library cookbook collection.
