I loved this book series. I'm always excited to read about the Baxter family and see what happens with the characters.

I grew up reading Karen Kingsbury, so I am always excited when she's putting out a new book. In this Moment is #2 in The Baxter Family series, and follows the story of Luke Baxter, a lawyer who is representing a high school principal in regards to a religious freedoms case. This story is inspiring, though a little cliche at times. As a high school teacher myself, and a Christian, it brought to light many issues that Christian workers face in public spheres.

As always, Kingsbury does not disappoint. I have loved the Baxter family as if they were my own. In this book, I felt the fear and frustration of the high school principal who only wanted to better his school. I found myself filled with compassion with the parent who brought a lawsuit because he was angry with God. This message was very thought-provoking for this day and time, as so many of Kingsbury's novels are. Highly recommend!

Love any book by Karen Kingbury. Her faith in God is reflected in her characters. I always feel like I am one of the family when I read her books.

After having a long hiatus of not reading Christian fiction, I have felt the call to go back and read it and get back into the genre. Karen Kingsbury was always an author I loved and I felt the need to read her later Baxter family books which had been published after I took a break. Like all her books, each one is powerful and very inspiring. In This Moment we meet one of the Baxter Sons - Luke and his family including his wife Reagan and children. We also meet High School Principal Wendell Quinn. These two will cross paths when Wendell finds himself being sued and Luke as his lawyer. Wendell is a Black High School Principal in a low-income area and is trying to get his school roll up and the students out of trouble. He has exhausted all his options and prayed to God. His last choice is to open a voluntary bible study - he hopes that making it voluntary means that he is within the law as he is not forcing religion on those who don't want to be there. Wendell though is about to find out the law is a very thin line as he becomes sued by one of the parents of the school. Can Luke help save Wendell from being thrown into jail as he tries to show the judge and jury the amazing things that have occurred because of the bible? I liked this story as it showed just how powerful religion can be when put in the right hands and done for the right reason and also at the same time, how scared and nervous people can become around the topic of religion and God. I am lucky to have been born in New Zealand as it hasn't been illegal to teach about religion in schools.
I am now looking forward to reading more of Karen Kingsbury and the Baxter Family stories.

Karen Kingsbury is one of my all time favorite authors and the Baxter family feels like... Well... Family. In this story Luke takes on a case involving a high school principle who has put his Christian faith to the test in a very public arena, his high school. I highly recommend this book!!

I absolutely loved this newest novel from Karen Kingsbury - I love anything from the Baxter clan, and this expansion of that into the lives of a principal and lawyer who overlap in that world was absolutely page turning!

Highly recommend this!

Karen Kingsbury just feels like home to me. Her books are reliably well written and guaranteed to be inspiring and memorable. In This Moment is definitely one to remember! This book deals with a very important subject in our world today: freedom of religion. When Principal Quinn starts a Bible study group at his school, he is taking a big chance because not everybody shares his same view on religion. However, Principal Quinn decides to trust God and go for it in order to win lives for Christ and help his students to triumph over the struggles they deal with daily. But when one of the parents decides to sue Principal Quinn, he must stand strong and prove to everyone that his Bible Study group is changing lives and it's all part of God's greater plan. And with Luke Baxter as Principal Quinn's lawyer, justice has a great chance of being served.

It is always great to read another book about The Baxter family. As Karen Kingsbury says, the Baxters are her readers' family as well. The character development is wonderful and each person in the story feels like a real life friend. I also loved that Aspyn from the Angels Walking Series made an appearance in this book!

This book is a gem as are all of Karen's books. You never have to worry about being disappointed or let down after reading one of her books. You are guaranteed to walk away refreshed and closer to Christ.

Thank you to netgalley and Shelf Awareness for the advance copies of this book!

As usual Karen Kingsbury wrote a phenomenal book. I find myself holding my breath in between her books. This one did not disappoint. This one spoke to me being a teacher and struggling with these same issues. I laughed and I cried in this book. I highly recommend this book!

Who doesn’t love Karen Kingsbury and the Baxter family?! This book was just as good as all the other. It follows a high school principal and his attorney, Luke Baxter, as they navigate the muddy water of religious freedom.

Wendell, the principal, started a volunteer bible study program after school to try and make some kind of difference in his school. The reputation of Hamilton High School was not a good one; it had a reputation of drugs deals, overdoses, murders, low test scores, low attendance, high drop-out rate, you name it.

A year after the program started, lives were changing; Hamilton High School was turning the tide... until a parent caught wind of the Bible study program. This parent had issues with Christians and the Bible due to personal circumstances.

The students at Hamilton High loved this program and they all banded together to help save, not only their club, but their principal as well.

Did it work? Read and find out. 😉

My opinion? I loved it!

Once people stop believing in their rights of religion, those rights are whole lot easier to take away.

What is the freedom of the religion? How do our religious freedoms affect our way of life? The story of Principal Wendell Quinn and his students in a small town America reflect what is at stake.

Wendell is at a crossroads in his profession of principal. With all the gang violence, drugs, students without parental guidance, Wendell must come up with alternative to engage his students to a higher excellence, to higher learning, and community within the walls of his high school. He puts out there a VOLUNTARY bible study. That means students are welcome after school to learn about the bible. They are not made to study the bible or made to feel isolated because they choose not to. Religion that is forced does not transform. Wendell cares about his students. He desires his students for excellence.

The bible study has given many of his students purpose. With the numbers on his side, lower crime rate within the school, higher grades, student participation, Wendell is confident that God has ordained these students for something bigger than himself.

One of his students Cami was hostile to the bible study. A mother who claimed Christianity that left her family for another man has left a bad taste. She goes to see how poorly the study will do only to find that she becomes changed. She sees God in a different way. However, on parent night when the bible study is shared among the parents, her father comes unglued and goes to court. Sighting that religion and state do not mix. This is where misconceptions of religion comes to light. Is it against the law to bring bible? Is it against the law to lead a voluntary bible study? What must be done?

Wendell's fight for his freedom to worship is also a fight for our identity as a Christian. His trust on the word of God and how we love others. Cami and her father also learn the power of a true faith. A faith in not what we do but what God has done in his son Jesus Christ.

Several misgivings on this that salvation is not a get out of hell card but being in God's presence. Our salvation should not be pragmatic but seeking to know God and his love for us.

A Special Thank You to Howard Books and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

I love being a book blogger and working with NetGalley because they often have books by some of my favorite authors.  Today's post is absolutely true when I tell you the book is In This Moment by Karen Kingsbury. I have loved all of the 20+ Baxter family books she has written, and this one was no exception!

As with most books written by Karen Kingsbury, In This Moment was a great read and it addressed some "real world" topics like drugs, teen pregnancy, gangs and crime, freedom of religion and more.

Wendell Quinn is the principal of public school, Hamilton High and a widower raising four children on his own.  He decides to host a voluntary Bible study after school hoping to provide some structure and direction to his students.  He knows he is risking his job by leading the Bible study program, but the high turnout at every meeting encourages him. Quinn's reputation is at stake, his relationships are threatened, and his job is definitely on the line.

Interestingly, the Baxters are not the central characters in this book, they are more support roles. Wendell Quinn is the protagonist who meets with conflict throughout this story.  As he begins to see results from his Bible study, Quinn is faced with a lawsuit and he's at a crossroads because he has to decide whether to shut down the program or stand up and fight for himself and his students.

For this battle, readers will see Luke Baxter, an attorney who has left entertainment law to practice religious freedom law, enter the fight.

In this Moment is an inspiring and relevant story about the nuances of religious freedom. It also shows readers how a group of determined people just might restore the meaning of faith in today’s culture.

I love Karen Kingsbury's books. But I could not seem to get into this one. I'm sorry to say that I never finished it. The subject matter turned me off.

Ms. Kingsbury has once again taken us straight to the fabulous family of the Baxters. The beautiful way tapestry of love and hope that she blends into her stories is vivid and centered. I was instantly captured and taking on another whirlwind ride of amazingness that is the Queen Of Christian Fiction. I can't wait to read the next one! Well done!

In This Moment by Karen Kingsbury is the latest book in the Baxter family series. However, this book is more about someone NOT in the Baxter family-- the high school principal. The book starts off with a lengthy section all about the Baxter family members. This section is intended to help make the book a standalone novel; however, I do not think the book serves well as a standalone novel at all. The book was okay but really did not hold my interest well. I have read other Karen Kingsbury novels and loved them. This is not a favorite of mine. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher. These opinions are entirely my own.

This was a fabulous book with themes from racism, religious freedom, and faithfulness of God. I challenge any Christian to read this book, especially those teachers in public school. It was one of best Church vs. State books I have read. If you enjoyed the new God's not Dead 2, this should be your next read.

Karen Kingsbury is a master storyteller--there's no denying that. I adore her Baxter books, but could not finish this one.

Everywhere I have lived, there was a Bible club after school at the local public schools. No one ever sued them or made a big deal of it, it is just a thing that happens. In this book, Kingsbury acts as though no one has ever done such a thing and that it's a huge earth shattering deal. I made it through the first 100 pages and could not go on despite how much I was enjoying her character development--the plot was just too far fetched and obnoxious.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book from NetGalley.
