I enjoyed this book. It was a nice trip back to earlier Nora Roberts books with hints of themes to come.. It makes a short quick beach read. Recommended for a break with a nice drink for an enjoyable afternoon.

"Mind Over Matter" is a reissue of an early Nora Roberts book from 1987 and stands the test of time quite well. It is a straight romance with paranormal overtones, but the paranormal plays no direct part in the story. Since straight romance is not my favorite genre, I had a tough time getting into this story of two strong willed people finding their way to their HEA. But, NR's writing style is so good that she made the tale worthwhile.

Theatrical agent, A. J. Fields is a very successful Theatrical Agent who represents her mother, Clarissa DeBasse, for a TV documentary where her mother's physic abilities will featured. Aurora is fearsomely protective of her mother. The Producer, David Brady, and Aurora start out at odds, but quickly find themselves drawn to each other. Aurora has a really tough time letting go of a past romantic experience and the control she values so highly and it almost ends up costing her the love of her life. 3 1/2-Stars

Mind Over Matter, A Passionate and Intriguing Novel of Suspense, Nora Roberts

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre: Romance

I've read a few of Nora's stories over the years, both as Nora Roberts and JD Robb, but not for a while, so I thought it would be fun to dip back into her world.

This was a fun read, touched upon the supernatural world with Clarissa being a psychic, and I enjoyed it but it wasn't one that kept me gripped to the page, with that can't put down feel. It's not really suspense as I'd describe it, more anovel of secrets and intrigue.

I liked David, and the attraction between him and AJ was evident from the go get. Sometimes authors try for that and it fails, her it was perfect. what made it even more fun was neither were looking for or intending to have a relationship. It was further-est thing from both their minds and yet they couldn't keep away, two people who avoid any kind of closeness with others, and yet this need they have overcomes it.

I loved Clarissa, and understood why AJ was so protective of her. Sadly its a human failing people either want to knock you down, disprove of what you're saying or see how it can benefit them, and those like Clarissa who are so genuinely kind and helpful would get everything they had sucked out of them if not for protectors like AJ.

Its a mix of romance(s) and eye opening to things we may not want to see, to admitting not everything in life can be tidily boxed up and explained. I enjoyed it but it won't be one I'd re-read as I have others from this author.

Stars: four, an enjoyable, fairly slow paced story. Not everything has to be a race to the finish though.

This is a re-release of a Nora Roberts old favourite. Even if you didn’t know this, you would be able to tell as nothing within the storyline has been updated. Maybe it’s just me, but I was quite shocked when the characters were smoking. It just highlights I suppose how society has changed and how people have accepted those changes!

However, this in no way detracts from the story that the author weaves. In my opinion, no-one quite manages ‘supernatural’ and its other magical forms quite like Nora Roberts. As a shorter novel, this is an easy read that can be consumed within a couple of hours.

It has the expected engaging dialogue between characters and an engaging storyline which is, albeit predictable, still enjoyable.

I am a huge Nora Roberts fan and was extremely happy when I got the chance to read Mind Over Matter. I love how Roberts creates characters with backstories that help add to the mystery and suspense of the overall story. The plot line and setting are outstanding! Overall, I highly recommend this Mind Over Matter.

A good flashback to some of Nora Roberts earliest work. The setting has an almost noir feeling, I really enjoyed the book and the glimpse at old Hollywood.

Mind Over MatterThis book was originally published in 1994 and I should have suspected that I had read it before but the description on NetGalley didn't sound familiar. Once I started reading the story, I did remember more. While it feels a wee bit dated, this book actually isn't too bad for being 23 years old. Hero David Brady is a little alpha-male-ish but it's not any worse than some of the more recent books I've read. He's a big-shot documentarian (think Ken Burns) who is doing a show on psychics.
AJ Fields is the agent for one of those psychics, Clarissa. But she's reluctant to put Clarissa to yet another battery of tests. And she's even more reluctant to explore the draw she's feeling for David. But we get to see the two of them fall in love, figure out their relationship, and find their HEA.

I remember why I like Nora Roberts. A romance yes, a well written one that leaves you wanting just a bit more. I looked forward to any time I would have a little break from my daily routine just so that I could get in a couple of chapters.. Nora Roberts will be on my list of fiction authors that must be represented in our store.

I loved reading this book. Best part is the writer is able to bring out the feelings so well. How mind controls over heart is beautifully expressed. This was definitely not up to Nora Roberts's norm though. Looking through info, it looks like this is a reprint of an older book. I wish she'd take a look and maybe add some updates. She's really grown into a fantastic author that this was a bit disappointing.

I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I will leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.

Old school Nora Roberts hits the spot for a summer read.

AJ has the same "gift" that her mother has, but she doesn't want it and tries fiercely to shut down the knowing that happens out of nowhere.

David is doing a tv show on the "supernormal" and is featuring her mom. He learns of AJs gift.

This doesn't seem updated from its original publishing. However, it's a book that stands the test of time. Kudos to Nora Roberts.

Going in to this, I knew it was a reprint of an older Nora Roberts but I was all "It's Nora Roberts and I almost always love everything she writes. How bad can it be?" Answer? Pretty bad. At least her heroines are always strong, but this is truly a quickie romance novel in every aspect. There's not of the conflict and tension I'm used to reading in her books. I mean, there's conflict and tension, but it didn't seem realistic and more created just to add some drama to the book. So now I know... I don't love all her books. You want a good Nora Roberts book? Go for Come Sundown.
