This is really two books and one I enjoyed a lot, the other not as much. The first part of this book is an autobiography of J. Frank G. Boom. I really enjoyed reading about him and the Jazz/Blues scene in the Netherlands during the 30s and 40s. The author has done a lot of research and the writing is good and informative. The text is accompanied by historical photographs. The second part of the book is the book The Blues by Boom. Boom analyzed the Blues records in his collection and put together all sorts of statistics. I found this part of the book rather dry and dated. Boom tries to understand the place of the Blues in US History without doing a lot of research. A lot of his analysis centers on lyrics and often they appear. Anyone with an interest in Music and Music History will enjoy this book. Enjoy this with a Blues soundtrack.
