I really enjoyed this book. The story was very unique and interesting. I also think the characters (even the bad one) were very enjoyable to see their thoughts and how they evolved through this journey.

SPOILERS BELOW***************************************

I really wish either the book would have been renamed or the last person would have died later. With this name of the book, it gave away the ending that she killed no more people.

I enjoyed this book, although the pace of the story for me was not as quick and thrilling as others. But it definately sets Jim Bean's persona and I think he is a great character. I feel that Sarah's identiy was unveiled too soon in the storyline and turned slightly predictable. Although I did read the whole book and found something just urged me to keep reading. I would still read the prequels. If you enjoy the Robert Caffrey series by Mo Hayder, you will enjoy this book!

I struggled a bit with the pacing of the book which means I couldn't give it more than 3 stars. An enjoyable read nonetheless.

This book kept me on the edge of my seat. It is an interesting read and I was gladly enough to be able to read this through Netgalley for a review. Without saying any spoiler is tough, but when Sophie asks a private investigator to find her brother this book takes a great turn and gets better page by page. I would recommend this book to all thriller seekers out there you will not be disappointed.

I loved this book! I received an advanced copy for review and I couldn't finish it fast enough. It had characters you relate to. The plot was fast paced and a little disturbing. It's amazing that someone so unstable can blend in so well. I would definitely recommend!

The story is about a Pi investigating his clients brother however the twists and turns start there. Excellent read. Thoroughly enjoyable.

I was given an eARC of this novel by the publisher through Netgalley. They have asked for an honest review. I am actually really glad that I was approved for this novel because I did end up enjoying it quite a bit.

The premise of the novel was that a woman hires Jim Bean, a private investigator, to locate her missing brother. However, Jim grows suspicious about some of the things the woman says about her missing brother and realizes that the woman is not who she seems. Instead, it comes out that this woman has been stalking the man she claimed is her brother.

I really enjoy thrillers and I thought the premise of this novel sounded intriguing so I requested it in hopes that I would find a new thriller writer I could enjoy. I did end up enjoying this novel but it was so slowly paced that I could see a lot of people who enjoy thrillers not really enjoying this novel. It took ages for the truth to come out about the woman being a stalker. This was king of frustrating because it was blurbed about and so I was under the impression it would come out early on. The pacing issues are the main reason that this novel is not a four star read.

I did enjoy the writing and, for the most part, I enjoyed the story. However, when you pick up a book that you think is going to be a thriller you don't expect it to be so slow. This novel had a lot of potential and while I would still suggest it to others I would also warn them that it has pacing issues.

People who enjoy thrillers tend to like them because they are fast paced. I believe that there will be a lot of reviewers out there who will not like this novel simply due to the pacing. I, personally, feel that if you can get past the pacing issue this novel will be something to be enjoyed.

I ended up giving this 3.25 stars.

I really enjoyed this book, I think the storyline was gripping and I didn't feel myself switching off or getting bored throughout the whole book👏🏼

So.. Jim bean is a PI and is hired by Cynthia to find her drug addicted brother, Dan. The action starts straight away in this book and within the first chapter or two you find out that the real Cynthia has been killed and a girl called Sophie is pretending to be her. Sophie is and always has been obsessed with Dan and it seems she finally had their happy ending all planned out.. she just needs to find him first!

I think the book includes really good insight on the minds of 'psychopaths' as half of it is from Sophie's POV. It really lets you get a feel of what it's like to be in her head!
I also like how there is definite humour in the book, some really good one liners 😂

All in all, really good book and I would definitely recommend it! 👌🏼💜

This thriller features a Kit Tolliver like serial killer with serious stalking issues and a hapless detective caught in her claws. But there was little that worked here, that felt believable, or fascinated me.

Thank you to the publisher for providing an advanced readers copy of this book by a fairly new author. Unfortunately, this book was not to my taste and I cannot recommend it. There are a number of interesting ingredients including a stalking serial killer, a bumbling detective, and a dude ranch, but I did not find the writing to be compelling and did not like any of the character development,

For having never heard of the author or the book I have to say it was an enjoyable read. I'm not usually into this type of novel but, the author wove the story so well that you became a fan without realizing it till the end. Would definitely recommend this.

It started good enough but then it became uninteresting. Having a female as a killer was interesting but the story lost its appeal to me... something to do with everything revealed to soon.

I really liked this book. It kept me interested, it kept me on my toes, and it kept me guessing until the end. By the time I got 75% of the way done I had made up so many conspiracy theories and guesses as to what was going to happen next my head was spinning.

J.D Allen paints such a vivid scene I felt like I was watching a movie in my head. I could visualize each character and hear their voices perfectly. I felt like the characters grew and we learned more and more about them as we went through the books. There was never a moment where I felt like she was telling me useless information.

The only nitpick I have is I didn't feel their was an overly climactic moment. There is a chapter I feel was supposed to be the climax but it was just alright.

I'm super excited to see that this is #1 which I'm assuming (and praying) means we will hear from Mr. Jim Bean and JD Allen again soon!

Thank you to Netgalley, J.D Allen and Midnight Ink for the ARC!

Thanks to NetGalley for this book.
A nicely set up psychological thriller that could have been a very good book with a little bit more TLC.
Since 33 people before me told you what the story is all about, I won’t do that here. I would like to explain what I mean with the TLC. It is a nice book, no doubt about that. But I think it is not fast paced enough in places, and too much in other places - especially at the end. The character of Jim Bean is likable but he is not very original, being a lonesome PI with a cat. He and his friends are a bit off-the-shelf characters. It is like the author went shopping for ingredients and choose Jim, O, Eva Webb (for the touch of romance) and even Sophie, the killer as ingredients for the story.
The story lacks the intelligence and the flow that make a book a five star book for me. It makes a nice reading on a rainy afternoon, though.

This is the first book by J. D Allen that I have read and I must say I'm impressed. The first couple of chapters were a bit slow however it soon picked up pace and I found it to be a great read with well developed characters. I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a fast paced psychological thriller.
Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for my advance copy in return for a honest review.

This is a first read for me of J. D. Allen. I loved it and I can't wait for more in the future. If you love Psychological thrillers that you need to pick this one up. The twists and turns will keep you on your toes until the end. I love a good crime book. This one did it all for me. I love the PI (Jim Bean) and the FBI (Agent Ava Webb) work together. I would love to see more of this match up in the future. Sophie is a brilliant mind. It was intriguing to see how she worked. You don't come across many books where the female lead is the suspect. I think that is what drew me in right there. Nothing beats a twisted love story when the mood strikes.

Obsession can be a dangerous thing.

Daniel is not Sophie's brother, in fact, she is obsessed with him she believes they should be together and she is willing to kill to get what she wants. Sophie hatches a plan to find Daniel after he went into hiding from her. She hires a private detective named Jim Bean, telling him that she is Daniel's sister and that her name is Cynthia. When in actual fact Sophie has killed the real Cynthia. Bean sets out to find Daniel believing he will be reuniting a family, will he discover what is going on before its too late or will be become one of Sophie's victims himself?

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Unfortunately, I only made it through thirty-three percent of this book. I found there to be several spelling mistakes and grammatical mistakes throughout the book which put me off from the outset however I persevered and continued reading. It was the plot that defeated me in the end. I found this book to be a very slow starter, it seemed to take a long time to read for nothing much to happen. I found Bean to be a really annoying character and for some reason, I can't seem to put my finger on he just grated on me.

I was disappointed that I didn't get on with this book as reading the blurb it did sound like it was going to be a great read. Maybe one day I will go back to it and give it another go but for now, I must say I have unfortunately given up on. So I am unable to give a full review having like I said only read thirty-three percent of the book but for me this is a one star read

This is a fast paced thriller where not everyone is who they appear to be. Jim Bean's search for a missing person turns into something different entirely and triggers a series of events. Sophie is totally unlikeable. There is a lot packed into the plot and a lot of evil and gruesome deeds.

Wow this one sucked me in immediately! I especially loved the chapters from the killer's point of view, I wish more books would go in that direction, getting that insight just adds so much more to the story as a whole! Not to mention it being a female killer, so interesting as you keep finding out more. The story was well rounded out with other characters and I liked didn't it feel like a totally familiar story either. Sure there was your typical PI with his own hard luck story but even that felt fresh somehow and just the way everything blended together made for a great story! I'll definitely read more in this series if they come out, though most of what drew me to this one was the female serial killer thing, and I'll be recommending this one to all of my other bookish friends!
(My only complaint would be that there were A LOT of spelling and grammatical errors to slog through, but since this is a pre-release copy that kind is has to be expected and I'm sure those will get sorted out in the final printing.)

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The below is my complete, unbiased review.

This is my first J.D. Allen novel, and I am thrilled to have found it. 19 SOULS is a fast-paced thriller about a girl whose obsession has her on the brink of her own downfall.

Sophie Evers hires Jim Bean, a private investigator, to find her long loss brother, Daniel, who has stolen her mother's money to fund his drug problem. Without realizing Sophie is a phony (had to...), he agrees to help her. For many years, Sophie has been stalking Daniel, killing anyone who got between her and the relationship she wished to have with him. When Jim realizes he helped a crazed killer stalk her next victim, he is mortified and tries to make things right.

I absolutely loved the premise of this story, and Allen delivered. The characters were well-developed, the plot was engaging, and Allen even managed to add some humorous moments into this fantastic thriller. I highly recommend this read to anyone who enjoys a good suspense novel..
