Easy enjoyable read. Good characters and plot. Enough to keep me reading and forgetting to get off the train at my stop!

A Cold Day In Hell is a gripping debut novel and I´m really looking forward for the next book.

I liked the character of Lauren Riley. She´s tough, staightforward and loves her job as a cold-case homicide detective. Sadly she has also a terrible taste when it comes to men. - A crazy psychopathic ex-fiance and an ex-husband Nr. 2 who is a notorious liar and adulterer. You really can say she`ll not get bored with them.
Accepting an second job as a private investigator in a murder case also doesn`t make her life much easier and beeing dragged into an high media attention murder case add some more trouble into her working life.

This book was a smooth reading pleasure. The dynamic between the characters was great and the end was nothing I would have foreseen and it kept me wondering what`ll come next....

Very enjoyable read. Good mix of police procedure and courtroom drama with a few added extras.

Liked the main character - Lauren Riley & her partner Reese working on the cold case homicide dept.
They had a great working relationship and I could connect with her.
The author was very knowledgeable regarding court procedures & police work and I wasn't surprised to see she is a retired homicide detective and the story was written from the heart but didn't bog you down with too much unnecessary information

Looking forward to more from Lissa Marie Redmond & hopefully Riley & Reese

This is the first in a series which introduces Lauren Riley who works as an accomplished detective (together with her partner Shane Reese) in the Cold Case Homicide Department in Buffalo, New York. Lauren is twice divorced and has two daughters who are in college leaving Lauren suffering from empty nest syndrome, and she misses her ex-husband Mark who has remarried with one son.

Lauren who works for the homicide department and is therefore always on the side of the prosecution is approached by a defense attorney, Frank Violanti who wants her assist him and work as an investigator. Lauren refuses until she meets the accused who is Violanti’s 18 year old godson accused of murder.

So here we have an investigative novel; part police procedural, part courtroom drama and part romance. Quite a mixture. Give it a good stir and you have got quite a novel. I loved it. It is well-written and well-constructed and the characters are carefully drawn and credible. I loved the relationship between Lauren and Reese and found some of their dialogue very amusing. Her ex-fiancee (long abandoned) is particularly strong; what a creep and scarily too believable. As for the accused – I can’t say anymore. You will just have to read it. Go on – it’s brilliant.

Can’t wait for No. 2 Ms Redmond.

Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for providing an ARC via my Kindle in return for an honest review.

Wow Lisa Marie Redmond has delivered a brilliant first thriller and I'm sure she will be an author to watch.
Millionaires wife is murdered, young student arrested and charged with her murder, defence hires private detective to help prepare for trial, detective has differing relationships with 3 men and a volatile relationship with the defence attorney - plenty action in this storyline to keep you guessing who dunnit !!
Grasped me from the beginning a riveting and exciting psychological thriller which deserves a 5 star rating.

What a ride! 'A Cold Day in Hell' gives you part murder mystery, part legal courtroom drama - leaving you until the last few pages to find out who the murderer was. Fantastic writing and brilliant characters, putting aside the annoying back and forth with the detectives ex and their rendezvous (just annoying really). I look forward to revisiting these characters in the next novel!

Thanks to the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really liked Lauren as a character and hope to see more in future books. She very relatable and not like some other female officers I've read about. The story moves at a good pace with a few twists and turns. it gives you characters to cheer for and characters to hate!

This was a great, fast paced read. The main character is a strong willed single mum who works not only on cold cases with the police but also as a private investigator on a high profile murder case. I hope this is the start of the series as I would love to read more. Thanks to Netgalley and Midnight Ink for an advance copy of this book to read and review

A Cold Day in Hell by Lissa Marie Redmond is her first novel in a thrilling cold case series. The reader follows the life of Lauren Riley at both work and home. A Cold Day in Hell is anything but cold as it is fast-paced and will keep you at the edge of your seat. Redmond has created a refreshing new series within the thriller/crime genre.

The novel begins with Lauren Riley taking on a case by Frank Violanti – a rival defence attorney. As the reader soon realises, there is more to the case than meets the eye. The readers then delve into Lauren’s personal life when it becomes clear that both work and her personal life, begin to overlap. Redmond has created a well thought-out plot as the reader is never left bored or distracted. Sub plots are easy to acknowledge and some could be seen as a recurring sub plot throughout the series.

Twists and turns are unexpected throughout, making this novel an unpredictable read. Readers may feel that the novel has a slight similarity to the 80s film Jagged Edge as the case that Lauren takes on is big within the media and has the psychological feel of the 80s film. The innocent until proven guilty belief is glued into each page, constantly keeping the reader on their toes.

If anyone is unsure about reading a crime or thriller novel then Redmond’s novel is a good place to start. Redmond explains throughout A Cold Day in Hell the police procedures and court hearings in enough detail for them to not be patronising. This ensures that everyone understands what is going on in each chapter of the book.

For anyone who would like to try a crime or thriller novel then you can pre-order A Cold Day in Hell here on Midnight Ink Books, or on Amazon.

I am not usually a huge fan of legal thriller, but this one sounded so gripping I was excited to have a chance to read it. The story is fast-paced and clever, and though I didn't necessarily warm much to Lauren, I was nonetheless absorbed by the story. Gripping, smart and engaging!

Thank you for the opportunity to read this book. I enjoyed it very much!

A prime example of how to keep a reader gripped! A book that really crosses the boundaries to a 'normal' crime book. I couldn't see how this was truly going to finish until I reached the bitter end and I loved every moment of it!

I loved this book. It was a compelling read that I couldn't put down. The plot was interesting and different from other police procedurals I've read, and the characters were so well done. I'm really looking to the next book in the series!

Detective Lauren Riley is a cop assigned to cold cases, where the solves aren't easy, but when they come they're very rewarding. She's also a private investigator. Riley is asked to take a case by a lawyer named Volanti, a defense lawyer for whom she has little regard. However, his godson David has been accused of murder, and after interviewing him, Riley believes he's been accused unfairly by the police in another town (also her ex-boyfriend), and the prosecutor.

Her investigation and the subsequent trial make for fascinating reading. There are twists and turns everywhere, and I never saw the ending coming.

I very highly recommend this book and I hope there are many more by Lissa Marie Redmond.

Lauren Riley is a very dedicated detective who with her partner, Shane Reese, works in the Cold Case Homicide Office. Thirty years' worth of unsolved cases are stuffed into three rooms on the second floor of Buffalo police headquarters. She is so good at what she does that defense attorney Frank Violanti wants to hire her as a private investigator in the case of his eighteen-year-old godson, David. Lauren is a thirty-eight-year-old, twice-divorced mother of two college-age daughters and has been feeling lonely and out of sorts which may be why she accepted the ten thousand dollar retainer. Lauren soon realizes that investigating the high-profile murder of Katherine Vine could mean the end of her career. A punch in the mouth by the defense detective on the case and her ex-fiance, Joe Wheeler, does not deter Lauren in her search for the truth.

(Cold Case Investigation #1) The major story line involves a current case in which detective Lauren Riley agrees to help a defense lawyer whose godson is on trial for murder. OK, but not a series I will pursue.

I really enjoyed this debut novel by Lissa Maria Redmond.
The characters are very believable, the main crime story was OK, but the back story is more interesting and I hope that there will be many more books in this series.
