Ann Petry needs to get her due and blow up all over the place! I’d recommend any of her books and am happy to have been given a chance to read this new edition of The Narrows.

Excellent read! A love story set in the 50s, with a great realness to it. A real page turner.. Highly recommended.

With this classic, I felt transported back in time to societal norms that demonized black people and promoted white supremacy, but then I remembered that still happens today!

Good book about race, love and mistakes. The writing is a bit hard to read but once you get into the book, it flows. At first, I was a little turned off by the writing, but as I read more, they style made perfect sense. Yes, this book was written a long time ago but it is well worth the read. the charecters jump out at you, the situations pull you in and you just cannot stop reading. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC of this book in return for my honest review. i will be buying this book for some members of my family. This book is reviewed on Amazon and Goodreads but it will not accept the link

I was amazed that the introduction takes up 90% of the eBook. That's some serious intro. Then when I finally get to the book itself its in text so tiny I can't read it. Usually on kindle one can alter the text size but this has been formatted differently so I can't review the novel as I can't read it.
Given the story is only 1/10 of the actual book though I'm not sure what I'd say. Its really not what I do, reviewing someone else thoughts and comments on a book, its stories I want to read, not someones thoughts on them.
Maybe that sounds harsh but I'm seriously disappointed, and hope that at least the finished version has text that's large enough to read. Even so I think that it bears mentioning that the novel is only 10% of the 471 pages....
