5 stars!
"Dear Humans: I live at the top of a tree-a tall tall tree!
My tree is redwood, one of the tallest trees in the world. Redwoods are higher than many buildings. That's really tall! This tree is where I find my food. It's also where I sleep and raise my family. And, it's where I hide from animals who want to catch me."

The intro is given by a Northern Spotted Owl. We are told there will be lots of amazing things to discover and lots to learn. And by learning we can help save and protect our fragile ecosystems.

What I great book! I love the rhyming and counting. Little ones will love it too. While I have not seen the hardback, this kindle one has beautiful pictures. I did not expect it to be a counting book. So useful to use teachers!

I want more by Anthony Fredericks. Highly recommended to teachers and parents of young children. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for a copy to review.

Magnificent book by Dawn Publications, which is complemented by the activities offered on the web and the video they recommend. Anthony Fredericks really writes this book with love and dedication, offering us relevant, interesting and engaging information about this endemic species of the Redwood forest. The illustrations by Chad Wallace can make you feel the humidity and haze of the forest, they are very beautiful. I'm falling in love with this editorial. Excellent material for educators and homeschooling.

This is a beautifully executed book, valuable simply for its pictures, but a delight when paired with counting for early readers. This book is perfect for the very early reader, and a delight to share with a little one on your lap.

I received a copy through the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you very much for the opportunity to read this!

This book is a wonderfully illustrated introduction to redwood trees and both habitats and ecosystems in a fun, engaging way. Full of animals who are in the environment, children can play fun counting games to lyrical verses woven with memorable facts. It provides the option to adjust for both younger children and older children, providing supplemental material for older children who may wish to learn more than just the basics presented in the first half of the book.

The illustrations are rich, accurate, and adorable, the games are fun and my children loved it! The one thing that makes me hesitate to give this five stars is the second half of the book. I did not like that right after the halfway point through it switches to offering bland STEM activities and hyped self-promotion. These are things that are typically frowned upon in books. It is mixing genres of the book and blatantly pushing additional agendas that really turned me off.

In a digital world, providing a web link for all the additional information they decided to stick in the back would have been more useful and a less wasteful use of paper in the physical format and provided a cleaner experience in the digital format. Activities are not an expected feature in a children's book and the additional pages of promotion are also facets that a parent or teacher would seek out on their own using a provided link if they were interested. Instead, it almost feels forced in front of you. This being irksome is just my opinion, and may be welcomed by others.

Overall, I give this four stars for its excellency in all areas but the second portion of the book. The illustrations, the verses, and the games as well as additional facts have kept my children coming back to this book again and again. This is truly a fun, exceptional read.

Tall Tall Tree is a great children’s book that will introduce them to the redwood forests found in California. I live in the redwoods, so I really enjoyed seeing how the author presented this subject for kids.

The illustrations in this book are very well done. They have a soft quality to them that makes them inviting. No hard edges of glaring colors, just the subtle greens and browns and other shades found in nature. To those who live here, the real redwood forest is indeed like this. The illustrator has captured the nature of this forest very well. The animals are also accurately presented in the paintings. Each animal is shown in its natural habitat.

This book is also a counting numbers book for young readers who are just learning their numbers. The animals are presented in groups as the reader learns to count the number. For example, ten ladybugs, or nine banana slugs. A parent can use this book to help teach their youngster to count to ten in a fun and engaging way.

The text also offers a little bit about natural history, but not so much information that it becomes overwhelming for the beginning reader. It’s just an introduction and gives the reader easy to learn facts.

At the end of the book, there are some more detailed natural history lessons that teachers or parents can use with their youngsters. Facts about redwood trees are presented on page, with a nice illustrated tree. There is also an activity page where a reader can “find the hidden animals.” Each page previous has an animal hidden and the reader is challenged to find them.

More details about some of the species found in these forests are given in the appendix. There is also a section of S.T.E.A.M. activities that teachers can use in their classrooms. A scan code is included at the end of the book so you can download additional activities from the publisher’s web site.

Overall, I had a great impression of the quality of this book. Not only is it a way to teach natural history to kids, but they get to practice counting their numbers too. The illustrations complement the text and are a joy to look at. I recommend this book for classroom teachers as well as parents.

I thank NetGalley and the publisher for access to the advance reader copy in exchange for my honest review.

I received this book as an ARC reader for Netgalley for an honest review. I really enjoyed reading this book to my 4 year old daughter because of the counting. The educational value of this book is amazing and we learned so much about redwood trees from this book. My daughter enjoyed the pictures and the amazing artwork that accompanied the story. I enjoy reading books that are educational to my daughter because she asks questions and wants to learn more. This book would definitely be a book that every library should have. We enjoyed this book and the amazing idea and learning what animals call the great redwood home.

4 stars.
This is such a good book for children who are interested in nature. The illustrations are absolutely amazing! They are beautifully done. The story is told in a poetic way, using numbers to make it fun. I know that this would have appealed to me when I was little. At the end of the story, there are all these different facts about all the animals and plants that were mentioned throughout the story. You can tell that the author is passionate about nature as it really shows, which makes this book a success. Definitely recommend.

Tall Tall Tree by Anthony Fredericks is a children's book about coastal redwoods that teaches children about their size, location, and wildlife within them. This book is easy enough for very young readers and counts numbers up to ten, but also includes the author's experience with these giant wonders. Children learn about their age, needles, bark, roots, and all the wildlife including bats, squirrels, woodpeckers, and even insects like millipedes and bumble bees.

This is an educational book that we loved. It's perfect for teachers and also for your home library. The illustrations are beautiful as well.

This beautiful counting book is written in rhyme. A northern spotted owl welcomes everyone on the introductory page and he invites readers into the magical world of the tall, tall Redwood tree.

Scientists have discovered a busy world on top of those gigantic trees. Its overhead canopy is one that is teeming with life unseen by human eyes.

"Creeping, hopping, zipping
Throughout the redwoods green
Are many different creatures
Who are very seldom seen.

They live among the branches
High in this tall, tall tree
Insects, birds, and mammal,
Let's count them - one, two, three."

The author highlights ten species that make this high towering cover their home. Some that he has chosen are: the soaring Eagle, climbing Salamanders, busy pecking Woodpeckers, chattering scampering Chipmunks, sleeping roosting bats, slimy sliding banana slugs and spotted crawling Ladybugs, just to name a few.

Kids can count, learn and discover and enjoy reading this book. It's very intereactive with words sure to expand their vocabulary. The author has cleverly included pages at the back to gleen more in-depth details of the majestic Redwoods and more animals to flip back through the book and find. Also present are guides for parents and teachers that provide activities and websites to pursue.

The illustrations are truly amazing and beautifully crafted. The author has done a stellar job of raising the awareness of the Redwood's awesomeness and usefulness to creatures big and small. A truly gorgeous book that will be wonderful to add to your child's nature collection. I highly recommend this book.

"Many other animals
Sleep and eat and roam
Up in this tall, tall tree-
Their elevated home.

The tree lives in a forest
Close to the foggy shore.
It's a wild and magic world-
Come discover and explore!"

My 3 year old enjoyed the fast paced story. I would definitely say it's more a younger kids book, but what we liked most was the illustrations. I did find it a little annoying that there were sometimes multiple large pictures for some of the chapters because it meant flipping through a few pages before you could continue to read the words.

I remember my awe visiting a giant redwood tree forest in California over 20 years ago. I was enchanted, standing between the majestic trees and I could not take my eyes from them. But I did not exactly know, which animals lived in that forest. This picture books brings the redwood and 10 different animal species that live on this tree into the spotlight for little children. The illustrations are beautiful and the rhymes make children chime in with you when you read the book to them. At the end of the book the size of the tree is brought into relation with the size of a human being to show how tall the redwoods are. If you want to bring children close to nature and relate to them a sense of awe, read this book to them.

With this beautifully illustrated book (not only) young readers can practice the numbers 1-10 while also learning about the magnificent redwood trees and all the different animals that need them to live. The book includes further materials like a searching game for children and informations for parents and teachers.

I was expecting a non-fiction science information book with Tall Tall Tree by Anthony D. Fredericks. The added surprise is that it is also a counting book. This made the book a hit with the 3-year old who is learning to count as well as the 6-year old who loves all things related to nature.

The illustrations give the reader the feel of a thriving healthy community within the trees. Animals not always associated with the Red Woods are included in the main ten. Then there are hidden animals which were a delight to go back to find after we finished reading the body of the book. I liked that the author included more activities at the end; what a wonderful unexpected bonus.

When I asked my grandson to rate the book, he said without hesitation 100 stars. It is a favorite that can be read again and again. Since I receive a digital coy of the book, he was thrilled when told that we would be ordering a paper copy.

This picture book is perfect for teaching numbers and counting 1-10. When you read it you'll also have the opportunity to introduce ecological facts about the great Redwood forests and the animals that live there. The beautifully dynamic illustrations will keep young readers focused on the fun, rhyming story. They'll be so engaged they won't even realize they're learning.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this upcoming title. Reminds me a lot of the old Sylvan Dell style picture books. Highly recommended to parents/grandparents/caregivers of small children.

Absolutely delightful! The illustrations in this one are just stunning in both their realism and their artistic presentation. I really liked the "I Spy" aspect of the book. The simple yet effective rhymes tell a wonderful story of life in the tall treetops of the redwood forest, something I knew nothing about. The longer explanations at the back of the book are excellent for teachers and parents to help them further a child's understanding of this amazing ecosystem. It certainly makes me want to visit the redwood forests and experience some of this for myself! This is a book both parents and kids will enjoy, and is a great one to read aloud. Highly Recommended!
