Beyond amazing book! Scorching hot series! So so good

In Hot Pursuit, both Christian Watson, a former SAS officer and current BKI operator, and Emily Scott BKI office manager carry a lot of baggage from their pasts. Both had difficult childhoods and to top it off, Christian still suffers from nightmares due to his captivity and torture in Iraq. After living England to pursue a new life in Chicago, not once did Christian expect to be back on British soil. But alas, as part of a BKI team working on a job, that's exactly where they ended up. Between laying low and escaping strangers determined to kill them, Christian and Emily give into the burning attraction they feel for each other. That's until love crashes their party. Between dangerous situations and feverish moments, Christian and Emily find that life is short and love should be cherished even by the most skittish of birds... Julie Ann Walker's BKI series has always been a favorite of mine, and while Christian is all alpha and seriously hot, Emily got on my nerves a few times. Nevertheless, the book is full of fun banter, funny interactions, and plenty of red-hot sensuality not only between Emily and Christian, but also between Ace and Rusty.

I don't think that Ms. Walker has written a book that I have not loved. What's not to like? A covert operations group that is using being motorcycle builders as their cover. Plus, the men are tall, sexy and dangerous. Then there is the odd-ball who doesn't ride or work on the bikes. And that ladies and gentlemen would be our British heartthrob, Christian. I love him. He seems so cocky and aloof and I guess he is to an extent. He really showed that he does fit in with the guys and gals of BKI by being a total badass. And his pursuit of Emily....be still my heart!

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

Julie Walker NEVER disappoints me! Her books are always thrilling and exciting with romance all along with it. She has strong hero's with sensitive sides and even stronger heroines that can stand up to the biggest Alpha. I have read of her books and everytime I see a new one it is on my wish list to remind me when it comes out or I see it on NetGalley!

Stevie‘s review of Hot Pursuit (Black Knights Inc., Book 11) by Julie Ann Walker
Contemporary Romantic Suspense published by Sourcebooks Casablanca 03 Oct 17

I was really enjoying the continuing adventures of the Black Knights, right up until the action moved to the UK. The first book set over here got a slightly hesitant pass from me, thanks to its whirlwind plot and engaging characters, both of which allowed me to overlook some of the more blatant plot holes and assumptions that we do things just the same as they do them over there, albeit with a rather ‘quaint’ accent at times. I had a few reservations about the one British member of the team, however, and was crossing my fingers that the mismatches between his word choices and mannerisms, and his supposed background, would all be explained when we learned a little more of his backstory. This, then, is his book, and I approached it with caution, especially since the previous adventure ended with the away team still stuck in the south of England.

Christian is ex-SAS, having left the service under something of a cloud, following an incident on a top-secret mission in Iraq. The one member of the Black Knights to prefer sports cars over motor bikes, he’s something of an enigma and a source of fascination to ex-CIA office manager, Emily. Having left her previous posting due to a disastrous ending to an affair with her boss, Emily has sworn off mixing business with pleasure, no matter how strong her attraction to Christian. Which makes being forced to lie low with him and three of their Black Knights colleagues and allies all the more difficult for her, especially given that he’s just as keen on her.

The gang are also keen to leave England and get back to HQ as soon as possible, none more so than Christian, for whom England holds only bad memories. Unfortunately for them all, the bad guy they’ve been pursuing across the UK has leaked information regarding Christian’s whereabouts and history with the SAS to the press, and the five of them are forced to make a hasty exit from one hideout and seek another while they await a flight back to the US.

Meanwhile, the press coverage has come to the attention of two local guys with a grudge against Christian, and there are so many plot holes in their story, I’m not even going to try and explain why it’s so wrong. The bad guys pursue the gang across the south of England, taking in a National Trust property on the way, where the Black Knights hole up and do all kinds of very wrong things to and with valuable antiques. And, honestly, you can’t just chuck the bed linens off those beds into an ordinary washing machine, even assuming there’s one in the house. That’s a specialist restoration job there.

Christian and Emily get together eventually, of course, although I’d be more interested in seeing more of Ace and Rusty’s story, if the author feels like including a gay romance in the series. All in all, my least favourite story in the series, but I shall persevere for at least one more book.

Grade: D

I was excited to get this on NetGalley as I am a fan of this series. This was as reliably fun and full of likeable characters as the others, but it is becoming a bit formulaic now. I would say that any of the books in the series can be read as a standalone and this is as good a place to start as any of the others.

Mary – ☆☆☆☆
Christian Watson is a former SAS agent now working for the BKI; he is trying to move past what made him leave his homeland of England. Being back is only bringing the pain and guilt he feels, and he wants to leave and fast. When a group of reporters shows up at the cabin where he and a few other operatives and their office manager are staying, they have to get creative to escape.

Emily Scott, office manager for the BKI, has tagged along on this mission to keep everyone out of trouble. She is former CIA and after a disastrous exit – a fellow agent fell in love with her and that love turned to hate – she had to leave a job she loved. She is loving her job at BKI and steering clear of any relationships and especially love. Because love is not in the cards for her.

While Christian and Emily are always bickering back and forth, the banter seems to be flirting. And everyone on the team can see it. So they give into their passion. Some kind of friends-with-benefits. But Emily tells Christian to not fall in love with her. It will all be over then.

What happens when he does fall in love? Will she tell him that she is already in love with him? Will the team ever catch Spider?

I thought this was a good story, although Emily seemed to be a little wishy-washy at times. Maybe it is because this is the first book in the series I have read and haven't learned her ways. I did enjoy the storyline and hope to go back and read more in this series soon.

Veronica – ☆☆☆
Hot Pursuit is the 11th book in the Black Knights Inc series and I've read all 11 books. Christian and Emily's romance is a good addition to the series but was probably my least favourite.

There is a lot I liked about this story. Christian and Emily's banter is good fun and they make a great match. Their bedroom scenes are incredibly hot. The action as our Black Knights try to get out of England is good. I also loved the scenes between Ace and Rusty and I'm very much hoping that Ms. Walker branches out and gives us an m/m romance story in this series.

What did I dislike? The overuse of every single British slang term available. The story felt deliberately drawn out – I would have preferred less time in the characters' heads musing about things and more action.

The big problem for me, however, was the rather large spoiler for It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover. Our heroine refers to the CoHo book, which is cool. Unfortunately, Emily gives the crux of the story away. So if you haven't read It Ends with Us and you want to, make sure you read it before reading Hot Pursuit.

Hot Pursuit had its good and bad points but it is still an enjoyable read and as long as Ms. Walker continues to write books for this series, I'll continue to read them.

This is the eleventh book in the series, and it makes an awful lot more sense if you have read the previous installments. Each book gives us a fabulous continuation of ongoing political/criminal intrigue and also the romantic entanglements of the BKI team.

We left part of the team stranded in the UK and with the addition of Rusty in the mix. One of the team is particularly anxious about being back in the UK – Christian has no love of the country of his birth, and has memories from his times in the SAS which he would rather put behind him. The fact that the woman who he thinks he is in love with is also there, and in a dangerous situation for which she is ill prepared, is adding to his stress. At one stage there is one of the funniest scenes that I have read in a long time – which did a great job of setting the relationship between Emily and Christian in context.

Slow burn is almost too fast to describe these two – and all the people around them are just waiting for them to sort themselves out. It is hugely enjoyable to get both their thoughts and expectations.

One of the best things about this installment is that the underlying plot is not complete, and so more books must follow! And there are more relationship issues to be resolved... I love that it leaves me wanting more, but that it doesn't feel like it is a cliffhanger.

In my reviews for at least the last two books I’ve said at the end I couldn’t wait for Christian and Emily’s story and I loved every page of it!

Emily is a former CIA operative who lost her job when a relationship with her partner went south. Now she’s finally found a permanent home with the BKI team and no matter how handsome or charming Christian is, she’s not willing to chance losing her spot at BKI by getting involved with him. Christian has had a thing for Emily since first laying eyes on her and now that she’s out in the field with him on their current mission, staying away from her has become impossible. When Christian has a gun pointed at him and Emily steps between him and the gunman things change for them both. The two decide to try a friends-with-benefits relationship to scratch the itch they have for one another… but feelings are quick to get involved.

This book is laugh out loud funny, I seriously cracked up laughing through about 90% of it. Christian and Emily are an absolute trip together and then you add in the antics of the rest of the team and this makes for a book you won’t want to miss out on. I was also super impressed with how much of the other boys from BKI we get to see in this book, I’m already so excited to read Ace’s story I hope it’s the next to release!

Hot Pursuit by Julie Ann Walker is the eleventh book in the Black Knights Incorporated series. It provided a humorous, fast-paced and gritty story with a blend of passion and romance. This is Christian Watson’s story..

What the story is about.
Christian Watson is a former SAS officer and a current member of the Black Knights Incorporated. He left England, his homeland after a horrific turn of events had him questioning his loyalty to his country. He had no plans to return the country that betrayed him, but his current mission set him on a path, which required him to return to the place he once called home. His return however did not go unnoticed, which led to unknown enemies’ hell bent on revenge surfacing. Fighting for his life is nothing new to Christian, but when it involves protecting Emily Scott, it is a different ball game.

Emily is a former CIA operative. She is the office manager for the Black Knights. Burnt by love she vowed never to fall in love especially when it involved a co-worker. Her number one rule, men are good only for recreational purposes. However, when she is forced to spend time with Christian in closed quarters, while being chased by his enemies, she began questioning her pre-conceived ideas about love.

The Story
Hot Pursuit picked up from where the previous book ended. I liked the story, but it did not wow me as I hoped it would. The highlight of the story was Christian escaping the enemies from his past and his relationship with Emily. The thread involving the villain, whom the team was pursuing from the previous instalments and the reason they were in England was not addressed. Mention was made of the fact he maybe behind the team’s current troubles but that was where his involvement ended. For me this was a huge disappointment. In spite of this, it had some redeeming qualities. There was intrigue and action with a side of humour and passion.

The Characters
Christian is a fascinating character. He is the epitome of an alpha male. He is hot, confident, protective and willing to fight for what he wants and he wants Emily. Emily on the other hand was a disappointment. She may be tough when it comes to dealing with her colleagues, but in matters of the heart, she was a wimp. Using her past to avoid romantic entanglements was not only weak but also annoying.

The Supporting Characters.
I enjoyed the camaraderie between the members of the Black Knights. They made a great team not only in the field but also on a personal level.
Regarding the villains, I found them irritating. Revenge drove their actions, but they were reckless and clueless, which made them dangerous.

Angel, a member of the Black Knights peaked my curiosity. Mystery surrounds him and I would love to know his story, which luckily will be revealed in the next installment.

The Romance
I had a difficult time connecting with the romance between Christian and Emily. Emily’s actions grated on my nerves. Everyone around them is aware of how they both feel about each other, but she kept denying her feelings. She kept making up excuses as to why they could not get involved with each other. I did not like that, she was happy with sharing her body, but not willing to share her heart. Christian was forced to fight to save what he believed was the best thing to have happened to him.

I did enjoy the banter between them. They had silent way of communicating with each other, which was a testament to the depth of their connection. If only Emily would acknowledge her feelings and stop hiding behind her past.

In addition to the romance between Christian and Emily there was another one developing on the sidelines between Ace and Rusty. I found this developing relationship more interesting than the main romance, even though it is not one that I would read.

Conclusion/Recommendation
Despite not caring much for the heroine, I enjoyed Hot Pursuit and cannot wait to read Angel’s story. I recommend this for fans of romantic suspense.

Favourite Quotes
I'm the forever type of bloke. What's mine stays mine. You need to understand that. The only way out of this for me is a body bag, hopefully sixty years from now.

Let me show you why God made beautiful women and well hung Englishmen.

He had suffered so much in his life. And yet none of it had broken him or hardened him. Through it all he had managed to stay tough, yet tender, strong and sweet.

4.5 Stars

Hot Pursuit is the eighth title in the Black Knights Inc series, and at the forefront of this story is Emily and Christian, but it also features Angel, Rusty and Ace. Although you could read this title as a standalone, at a minimum I would recommend reading Fuel For Fire, as it features the same group of characters and continues on where the previous title concluded.

Christian is an intriguing, complex character who is both enigmatic and charismatic. An alpha bad-ass, former SAS and current Black Knights Inc operative, he's used to living in the shadows. He's very private, strong, courageous, dresses to impress, and has a tendency to be in charge.

Emily is an enigmatic character on one hand she is feisty, smart, sassy and strong willed Chicago girl, but on the other she is quite insecure regarding relationships and love, due to her unique upbringing.

Emily is inexplicably drawn to Christian, and the chemistry between this pair is intense, but they constantly verbally spar, teasing and taunting each other with their antagonistic behavior and remarks. Both have a tendency to hold back from beginning a relationship, in Emily's case she is very adverse to mixing business and pleasure, whilst Christian is haunted by his past and has a tendency to use sarcasm to keep his thoughts and feelings at bay.

This title is a wonderful blend of intrigue, danger, and suspense with some very erotic interludes between the sheets. The banter is fun, flirty, at times antagonistic and full of humorous jokes and anecdotes that had me snickering and laughing out loud on more than one occasion.

Hot Pursuit has an intriguing cast of side characters including Angel, Rusty and Ace. In this title we gain a glimpse into the budding attraction shared between Rusty and Ace. This pair of alpha males do not share the same views regarding outing their sexuality that leads to a rocky foundation to their building chemistry. Angel is a complete mystery, and I look forward to reading his story .

This was such a fun, sexy book! I loved the snarky banter between the heroine and hero. Like the rapid-fire dialogue from classic screwball comedies mixed with action and hot sex. I do think the book can be read as a stand alone. Many readers will pick up the previous books just to get a glimpse of the two characters before they got together. But the book is also a great payoff for the characters readers have gotten to know a little about in the previous books. Their love story was worth the wait and definitely will have fans re-visiting the series to see it all play out again and again.

With every book that releases in the Black Knights Inc series I think that it cannot get any better.. and each and every freakin’ time – it does. So I’m going to type a phrase I never use lightly – if you love the Romantic Suspense genre then this series is a must read.

This time around it’s Christian and Emily’s story along with some unexpected enemies from the past. This couple’s bantering is part of their charm and it’s been ratcheting up over the past few books. Probably everyone on the team (and the reader) knows about their attraction to each other… everybody except themselves that is. Emily will not allow herself to get involved with a partner again. The last time that happened had disastrous results. Christian believes that his past prevents him from ever letting someone close to him. But steam, and attraction, and even love rarely listen to our inner voices.

I enjoyed Hot Pursuit very much. It’s got engaging characters, believable interactions, a strong cast, steamy moments, some laughs, danger, tensions and a well oiled team that makes their stories unique and realistic. I would highly recommend this story and the entire series for any reader who loves Romantic Suspense, characters who will grab your attention, and always do the unexpected.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

I was so glad that Emily and Christian finally got their book! This book picks up right where the previous one left off and the operatives are stuck in London. This story primarily takes place over a few days, but it works because the couple has known each other for a while. The story was solid, but at the same time this wasn't my favorite of the sries. It moved the larger story arc along and set up the following book in the series while wrapping up the love story between Emily and Christian nicely. It was a good book and I do recommend reading it.

Let me just get this out of the way. Rusty and Ace need their own story. Right now they are the couple who will never be. Their chemistry is off the charts but they have baggage that is piled too high to climb right now.

Christian is a former SAS agent. He brings foreign intelligence to the table along with English accented wit. He has a history with Emily through the CIA but a bad op ended both of their time there. We find ourselves where the last book left off trying to get the heck out of Europe and back to the US. As an added bonus the past has come back to bite Christian in the butt. This is fast paced and full of action scenes.

Next and *NO!* last will be Angel's story. I hope not. I will miss BKI.

The series continues to spark. Finally getting Christian's story and boy does it deliver. In the midst of being stranded and trying to stay under the radar Christian and Emily finally give into their chemistry. This one was a long time coming, almost as good as Boss and Becky. This book is fast paced and packed full of cloak and dagger stuff with plenty of between the coverlet times as well... come on they were in the UK. The lingo is very important. And to top it all off we get a little more background on the additional BKI guys and closer to unraveling the mystery of the elusive Spider.

You can't help but connect with the men and women of BKI and in "Hot Pursuit" Christian finally gets his story. And wow what a story he got!

The team of Christian, Emily, Ace, Angel, and Rusty are working to get out of England with Christian and Emily finally getting their romance. It takes off at a fast pace, with a constant banter and sexual innuendos between Christian and Emily. We learn more about Christian and Emily, their pasts, what makes them tick, and what makes them who they are and why. I absolutely love it when Emily tells Christian about his Watsoning (his last name is Watson). That was a hoot and just plain fun on Emily's part. Emily has met her match in Christian, and he is one that can wait her out when it comes to her finally realizing she is in love with him. Took a long while to get there, but the two of them finally get their HEA, much to the delight of the rest of BKI.

Although a standalone, all books are also interconnected. If you love romantic suspense, once you read this one, you won't be able to help yourself, but to go back and read other books in the Black Knights Inc. Series. I know that the series eventually has to come to an end, but I will look forward to reading the next series from Julie Ann Walker. I would like to thank NetGalley and Sourcebooks for gifting me "Hot Pursuit". My opinion is my own. This is mine. 5 Stars!

Hot Pursuit is the 11th book in the Black Knight series and it still feels fresh and exciting as book 1. I’m impressed that Julie Ann Walker creates such flawed and charismatic characters that keep the reader engaged and keep coming back for more. Hot Pursuit picks up right after the last book and has 4 BKI operatives and 1 office manager holed up in a cottage in England waiting for their time to get back to the States. Things don’t go as planned and before you know it the press is on them, their escape is botched and now two unknown men are out to kill them.

Christian Watson is a former SAS officer and never expected to be back in England after he left under bad terms. It’s bad enough being back but to make matters worse he is confined to his uncle’s cottage with Emily Scott, the woman who is both irritating and desirable all in one. These two exchanged barbs with one another like it was foreplay. Christian would like nothing better than to pursue something with her but he knows he’s a bad bet. Better to keep things as is unless she deems otherwise. He had a horrible childhood and no one needs to deal with that.

Emily has her own reasons for not pursuing something more with Christian. She was burned bad by a past relationship at her old job and had to quit. In order to have some piece of mind she is never going to mix business with pleasure again. However she can’t help her attraction to Christian and that irritates the hell out of her. What better way to express it than at the man himself. She knows it isn’t reasonable but she doesn’t think he would find her attractive considering how gorgeous she finds him. She couldn’t be more wrong. Christian and Emily are a trip when they get together and the other men on the mission would love it if they would get together and get it over with and put everyone else out of their misery!

Hot Pursuit is a fast paced, action filled adventure that is very entertaining. Danger surrounds them throughout and no one will be safe until they are out of England. There is also a minor side storyline between Ace and Rusty that piqued my interest. I hope there will be more about them as they come to an understanding. From beginning to end the story kept my interest and seeing Christian wear down Emily was well worth it in the end. There is one last mission for BKI and I hope that Angel is one of the next in line to be written. If you are a fan of Rebecca Zanetti and Christy Reece, you will love this romantic suspense series by Julie Ann Walker.

Former SAS officer Christian Watson has left his life in England behind with no desire to return to the scene of his disgrace. Emily Scott found out the hard way not to mix business with pleasure when she lost her job with the CIA. Now BKI operatives Christian and Emily are caught up in a mission that has thrown some serious curves, but it is their hair trigger attraction that just might be the very thing that puts not only their lives but also their hearts at risk.

In book eleven of the Black Knights Inc. series, Hot Pursuit, the feel felt as fresh as book one! This author could not have devised a better character then Christian Watson to carry the weight of hero on his shoulders. With a complex and difficult past Christian was still true to the traits of being a man of honor. Ms. Walker pretty much insured no reader could walk away from Christian without a hardcore book crush. This guy had appeal from every conceivable angle and then some. His joking pretty boy demeanor masked so many emotional scars that his falling in love with Emily was proof of the extreme and powerful degree of passion he held for her. Not to be outdone Emily Scott's tough girl persona hid a surprisingly sweet and caring heroine who did not know her own worth. The magnitude of Emily's reluctance to enter relationships based on her upbringing was a hurdle that few heroes would attempt, forget about being successful at, but then they were not Christian. When this pair finally connected it was like the whole work fell together because in the larger scheme of things a wrong was righted. A great match!

Julie Ann Walker let loose some fantastic heated banter in Hot Pursuit. Between the fast paced suspense and the raging maelstrom of hormone soup stirring up this work by the cast Walker left no heart unturned. Every person in this book was perfectly played and added to the story. This writer did a phenomenal job of maintaining a tense sexual current between her lead couple even while moving her espionage plot at a furious speed. Hot Pursuit had no lag and while full of author's trademark wit she was able to bring about some extremely thoughtful and poignant moments without diminishing them with her humor. What really added a nice touch to this story were the scenes that showed not only the leads frustration stemming from their attraction but their friends, as the saying goes it takes a village. Memorable, action packed and not to be ignored Hot Pursuit is just that good!

4.25 stars--HOT PURSUIT is the eleventh installment in Julie Ann Walker’s contemporary, adult BLACK KNIGHTS INC romantic suspense /military, action series focusing on an elite group of ex Navy SEALS, FBI, CIA and military heroes headquartered at a custom motorcycle shop in Chicago known as Black Knights Inc. The men and women of Black Knights Inc. are so far under the radar that they are blacker than Black Ops. This is former British SAS agent Christian Watson, and former CIA employee Emily Scott. HOT PURSUIT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Both Christian and Emily were introduced in earlier installments.

Told from several third person perspectives including Christian and Emily HOT PURSUIT picks up immediately upon the events of book ten FUEL FOR FIRE, and follows Christian, Emily, Jamin ‘Angel’ Agassi, former Navy pilot Colby Ventura, and former CIA operative Rusty Parker through Europe as they continue their search for the mysterious and elusive ‘Spider’ whose illegal business operations and ties have endangered the BKI team members both in Europe and back home. As the group endeavors to stay off the radar, the team becomes embroiled in a personal vendetta against one of their own. What ensues is the struggle to stay one step ahead of someone gunning for our story line hero; and the building but acrimonious relationship between Christian and Emily.

Emily and Christian have been dancing around one another for a sometime but our heroine is reluctant to get involved with Christian Watson. Christian’s past is darkened by memories of an abusive childhood, as well as time spent as a prisoner of war where he faced torture, and threats from his captors. Emily’s childhood and her parent’s numerous marriages have become the barometer against which she bases all of her own relationships and interactions, a barometer that refuses to allow our heroine to fall in love. Christian is a sexy, tattooed, and brooding well-dressed Brit who pushes all of Emily’s buttons- buttons she pushes back against Christian in return. The $ex scenes are limited, seductive and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a building story line and relationship between Colby Ventura and Rusty Parker. Both men are attracted to one another but Rusty has yet to come out of the proverbial closet and in this Colby struggles with his attraction to a man who is unwilling to admit the truth. A history of love and loss forces Colby to reveal the how and why of his battle with the man to whom he is attracted but Rusty’s reasons are in direct conflict to Colby’s previous loss.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Angel, Colby and Rusty; police officers and brothers Ben and Lawrence Michelson, as well as several members of the BKI Team-Samantha Tate and Ozzie Sykes, Mac and Delilah McMillan, Penni (Dan) Currington, and Frank ‘Boss’ Knight and his wife Becky.

The world building continues to follow the latest assignment as the BKI Team in Europe searches for a dangerous businessman and possible killer.

HOT PURSUIT is a story of friendship and love; heartbreak and painful memories; revelations, the truth, intrigue, betrayal and revenge. The premise is exciting and entertaining; the characters are colorful, charismatic and dynamic-there is plenty of sexually charged back and forth banter; the romance is provocative. The story line involving the person known as ‘Spider’ was virtually non-existent but new revelations and information reveal a possible connection to one of the BKI heroes. Julie Ann Walker’s BLACK KNIGHTS INC. is an addicting series with great character interactions that humanize the heroes and heroines we love to follow.
