I really liked this book. I thought the premise was interesting and held my interest. The only thing I didn’t like much is how they left us hanging at the end. But, it made me want to read the next book in the series.

When They Come True by Sarah Fleming Mountford.
Anna’s Nightmare Book Two.
A strange illness ravages the countryside while Dr. Anna Roberts struggles to recover from her own near-death experience.
She’s falling in love with Jedediah, a three-thousand-year-old ghost, but his guarded alliance with a Council of ancient spirits frightens her. Can Jed’s allegiance be trusted?
A good read. Great story. I liked the cover. 4*.

This is a great book that kept me captivated from start to finish. It's not your usual ghost story, it's unusual, has great plot twists, characters that have depth and is an excellent mix of suspense, action, romance and the supernatural.

This follows on from the first book where Jedediah aka Jed arrives from the past to protect Anna and escort her to a meeting with The Council. Both have powers to fight the dead. Anna is able to send ghosts on to where they should have gone in the first place and is still learning how much power she has and how to control it. Jed can use his ancient sword to weaken spirits and neutralize them.
Other characters include Adonijah Jed’s brother where no love is lost between the two of them and Anna’s first boyfriend Ned now married to Charlotte and expecting their first child.
An outbreak at the local hospital finds people displaying dramatic personality changes. Anna is a doctor and can see ghosts have taken up residence in the patients bodies. It will take all of her power and Jed’s support to cure the patients and fight back against the force behind it all.
This is perfect for fans of fantasy/thriller type stories. If you enjoy this one (as I did) the ending leaves the way open for a third book.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a free digital copy of this book in return for an honest review.

I didn't realize when I requested this that it was book 2 so I am getting book 1 and will revisit this later.

Good read. Well written, with a good plot and characters. I enjoyed this book, but am confused if there will be a book 3 or not.... I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Netgalley.

This book, while short, is very boring and I didn't enjoy it. I'm giving it a 3 star because the premise was okay, the but execution was poor. The characters were bland, the plot and writing dry. This book wasn't enjoyable for me, but maybe for someone else?

Thank you to Netgalley / Pikko's House for the opportunity to review this book..

I was so excited to dig into this book after reading and enjoying book one.. I will say Book two had a mid section that felt a little slow to me but it quickly picked back up.. I fell a little more for Jed as well as Ned in this book.. I hope more in this series hurries up and finds it's way into my grubby hands.. I am excited to see where the story goes.. I will admit though I was a little disappointed in the way the story ends in this book.. It just feels like I was IN the story and flip the page and bam it was over.. However that being said I do think it left off on a good way to start the next book.. If that makes any sense at all.. lol.. Recommend? YES !! If you like Ghosts, Friends, and of course a little romance I think you will enjoy this series.. ~Happy Reading ~

Dr. Anna Roberts is still recovering from her injuries acquired in the first book of this series "When they come calling" when she goes to the hospital to assist in the care of Carrie's relative. A strange illness is affecting community members. Are they truly ill? Is there a virus going around? Are they possessed? Is this the work of ghosts? Anna is trying to figure this all out all while experiencing visits from ancient ghosts/spirits from the Council. Can they be trusted? How does she keep those she loves safe? How can she stay safe?

I LOVED LOVED LOVED the first book in this series. I thought it was fun and interesting. This book I could not wait to get my hands on. I was so happy when I was approved BUT I found all of the stuff in the hospital to be a bit much. I wish this part could have been smaller. I loved the angst and the feeling of longing between Jed and Anna. I also loved how all of the characters interacted. How Ned and Anna are still close (they grew up together and were each other's first love) and that Anna and Ned's wife are friends. I love Anna's friends and how they came to her aid and worked together to save the day. This book's blurb talks about the council and I was hoping more questions about the council to be answered. I wanted to know more about Jed. About his other lives and history with the council. I wanted more of Anna questioning Jed and him proving himself. He is still a tough nut to crack. I wanted more insight into him and what makes him tick. What other abilities does he have? When will we see him use them? One thing I did like is his struggle with being from ancient times to now dealing with modern norms i.e. sex before marriage, etc.

I felt as if too much time was spent on the hospital scenes. Yes, I get that Anna is a doctor and she was there to help Carrie's relative but it felt too drawn out for me. Was it a great set up for Anna to question if she is a healer or an executioner? Yes, it was and I know those scenes were necessary but again, I felt that they dragged on too long. I also wanted to see more of everyone working together. Yes, this is definitely Anna's battle but as I mentioned I thought the Author did a great job of creating characters in the first book that were like-able and engaging. I loved seeing them interact and how they helped Anna in the battle. I would love to see more of them and their help in the next book. Of course they are in this book and played important roles. I just hope for more!

There is definitely going to be another book in this series. I will definitely be picking that book up. Although I wished this book could have been better, I still enjoyed it. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. I am hoping that this book will serve as the springboard for a much better book to come. I did really enjoy the last part of this book.

Thank you to Atthis Arts, LLC and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Brilliant book. You literally can't put this down once you start. Haunting evocative writing and a Christie-esque mystery with many hidden layers. Loved it.

I'm so excited to see the Anna and Jed saga continue. The story picks up where, "When They Come Calling" finished last year and I'm so disappointed that I'll have to wait another year for the conclusion. Their journey continues in this installment through myriad adventures and misadventures involving old friends, new friends, medical and spiritual mysteries, and the hint of an occasional exorcism. All in all an even more enthralling read than the first and I highly recommend it.

(Spoiler Warning!)

The medical aspect of Anna's character was refreshing and enjoyable. Most books in this genre have characters without professional careers. It is nice to see a strong and educated female lead that could hold her own through out the book.

I expected this book for be more about Jed and the council and progressing that aspect story. I got this idea based of the description but that is not at all what this book was about. That was only what the last part of the book was about but still it didn't meet my expectations. Things just got really weird and plot twisty but not in the good way.

How this book could have been better: Condense all the hospital cure stuff and move forward with the story of Jed and the council. Jed has been on earth for 3,000 years and I still feel like I know very little about him. Give me more history about the council and their laws and how they enforce them.

I do plan on reading the next book in this series because I want to know more. I feel like this book was a bait and switch with the description since that aspect story did not progress until end.

I would recommend this book if you plan to continue in the series but the first book was a lot better and hopefully the next book for be amazing. I have high hopes because this series has so much potential. Fingers crossed!

All my fellow weirdos and lovers of supernatural thrillers gather round and take note of this series. While I can't say much, as this is a sequel, I can say it lived up to my expectations fully and my only complaint was once again wanting more! They are fairly short, less than 300 pages for both books that I've read so far. This was another exceptional entry in the Anna and Jed saga; it's really difficult to pin down what genre to place these books in. They contain a fantastical aspect of the paranormal world that simultaneously feels realistic and so far removed from the world we live in that it's the perfect balance of escape and adventure. A little bit of romance and a little bit of mythology, these are wholly entertaining books with a complex plot and unique characters I've not quite experienced elsewhere. I always enjoy finding diamonds in the rough and this trilogy is definitely that! Not looking forward to the year long wait until the final book in the trilogy though. :( Highly recommended, but I also recommend starting from the beginning with When They Come Calling to receive the full character development that makes these books worth reading. If you enjoy books featuring a supernatural plot that are high action, these may be for you.

I absolutely loved this book! There is something eternally enticing about lives lived on multiple planes of existence, and this is a perfect example of that magic. You'll race to read every word, just like I did. Recommended!

I was so excited to read about Anna and Jed's story some more from her first book! This book was deliciously thrilling. It has a perfect mix of thrill, romance, ghosts, and action to make it a deadly combo I could not put down!

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book. I thought this book was well written. The characters were well developed. I had not read the prequel to this book but the author did an amazing job in making sure to provide enough information that you were not lost. I really enjoyed the historical background of the "older" characters. I will definitely be reading Sarah Fleming Mountford's first book!
