Chloe is off on a birthday holiday with her younger sister Mia to Thailand. Landing safely in another country, the book takes a familiar turn when things start to go wrong for the man character. Ensue all the stuff that nightmares are made of. Chloe is pickpocketed and loses everything. Passport, money, ID. Mia is a selfish git who thinks of no one but herself and her desire to have fun with her friends and is nowhere to be found to help her sister out of a frightening predicament, leaving her stranded in Bangkok during a particularly long festival where everything shuts down for four days.
In this maelstrom of bad luck, Chloe finds herself in a back street where she stumbles upon a perfume store owned by a devastatingly good-looking Scotsman who turns out to be a talented nose who also turns into her knight in shining armour. It isn’t hard to be such a hero when the boyfriend that Chloe has happens to be a controlling “douche bag” (to use Mia’s words) who happens to be overseas serving in the Australian Army. Sparks fly between Chloe and hunky Scotsman Daniel, but she is a good girl who doesn’t betray her relationship with “douche bag” until a particularly nasty scene with the douche is played out. Then emotionally free to explore her feelings, the typical love story plays out between Chloe and Daniel and everything turns out exactly as a happy ending suggests.
This is a perfect beach book. It requires no serious thinking. It is the right dose of insta-love and social commentary on abusive relationships – albeit a very picture-perfect commentary in which the reality of leaving an abusive situation is glossed over. It's not deep. It's not meaningful. It's light-hearted and typically romancing. It's entertaining and simple. Just what you want for a lazy read.

While I enjoyed the storyline, I didn't really like the characters. Chloe was a bit of a flop for me, she didn't jave much depth and I just didn't take to her. However, the writing was quick and easy to read, and it was an enjoyable story. I liked the idea of the perfumery and being able to make your own scent.

Chloe is persuaded by her little sister Mia to go on holiday to Thailand with her, mainly to help pay for the rooms, but when other friends arrive Chloe gets abandoned by her somewhat selfish sister. Trying to find her way back to the hotel Chloe has her bag cut and all the contents stolen, including phone, money and passport, how is she going to get out of these back streets of Bangkok and she is miles away from the hotel!

Daniel runs a perfumery business, selling perfume but also making up scents for different clients and shipping all over the world. Life is very busy and so he ends up working late......and he has nothing to go home for...........when a distraught Chloe appears in his shop and so of course he has to lend her money and give her his card so that she can get in touch again.

As Mia disappears to continue with her holiday Chloe stays in Bangkok waiting for her new passport to arrive, but who is that strange man that always seems to appear wherever she is and why is her boyfriend, in the forces in the middle east, being so weird on Skype - there are lots of things in Chloe's life that need sorting out and maybe now is the time to do it!

A lovely story, particularly good as I love Thailand, great characters and a bit of intrigue thrown into the mix makes a book that I didn't want put down
