First book I've read by this author....loved her story telling. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the story line. A modern day love story. So loved the cast of characters and their individual struggles, and the struggles of a family, and a marriage. Totally relatable and current situations are addressed.

There are so many words that can be used to describe this book, but the best one would have to be BRILLIANT!!! I could not put this book down until the very end. I felt every emotion when reading this book. Makes you wonder what would choices you would make if this were you in this situation.
This book is about a married couple, Alice & Ben. Both are doctors, Alice a GP & Ben, a surgeon. They have two beautiful teenage daughters & love each other deeply. Ben fears he is having a mid-life crisis, he is craving adventure, anything to shake up the everyday monotony. Ben is asked, by a fellow surgeon, to go to Africa to perform a surgery with a colleague. Ben readily agrees, even with Alice's insistence that he should not go. Ben's trip leaves Alice with many fears she must face alone & choices no wife should have to make.
This is such a raw & powerful love story. I am looking forward to more form Sinead Moriarty.
Thank you Netgalley for this advanced copy!

This is a new author to me and I was happy to get an advanced copy to read.

Alice & Ben have a typical marriage with two teenage girls when Ben decides to up the adventure in his life and spend a week in Eritrea performing a surgery and training other doctors. Alice and her girls find their lives shattered when Ben is killed in a land mine explosion. They struggle through their grief, and Alice eventually finds love again. However, she is shocked to learn shortly after her engagement that Ben is actually still alive and headed back home to her.

The first 2/3 of this book were fast paced. I appreciated the two perspectives of Alice at home and Ben's experience in Eritrea. The story got tense as I wondered how Alice would react and what she would decide once Ben was back. I thought that the last third of the book lacked a little of the same pace and attention-grabbing writing, but I still enjoyed the book and following the journey of Alice and her decision.
