When I pick up a J.D. Robb book for the first time or for the third, I remember reading my first book in the series (number 10 - don't judge because I did go back to 1.) I was hooked after one book read out of order and quickly filled out my collection. Now a J.D Robb means clear your reading list the day before it comes out so you are ready. Once or twice I have been disappointed and I do have favorites (Brotherhood w/ Mr. Mira and Delusion with the bees.) I expect nothing less than 4 stars with J.D. Robb and this book lands at about 4 1/4 stars.
Other authors have done the whole murders based on books story line (much like Bones did and like this book does_ but it is J.D. Robb so expect the author to dig deeper into the story and add a little something extra. The extra in this book is following Eve and Roarke and company as they dive into the books and try to figure out what comes next. The extra is also the characters we have come to know and love and watch grow. The action starts on page 1 and quickly one of the connections Eve has made across the story line brought her the information to chance the case as it relates to books. Eve quickly recognized that while our bad actor was pulling off the crimes by painting themselves into the story, they did not account for Eve so she can disrupt the flow. I liked how the author kept the action mirroring fiction theme moving with Eve's jumping in to change the game.
One thing I will caution on is it can be tough to go back and reread all old story because the characters are a little out of place from where you last remember. For example, in this book Nadine and Jake are still at the flirty stage instead of properly shipped as we know. That is not my way of saying don't reread these books, just make sure you know where in the story you are when you do. J.D Robb (Nora Roberts) is an absolute favorite author. I do lean more towards the J.D. Robb books as I love the established characters but you can't go wrong with a Nora Roberts book especially the Chronicle of the One. If J.D. Robb wrote it, I will recommend it. Being sick, reading J.D. Robb books is the literary equivalent to comfort food.

After a woman is murdered in a theater while the classic film Psycho's iconic shower scene plays, Eve and her team learn that the murder follows the plot of a popular novel. They see that an earlier death followed the story in another novel in the series, and race against time to make sure the murderer (in an unusual twist, a talented seamstress) doesn't get to re-create the deaths in the next books. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this book.

I LOVE a copycat killer. Like I don’t know why but it just gets me.
Jd robb(Nora Roberts) is really hit or miss with me but this one worked. The characters are charming as ever (Roarke) and you get exactly what you want when you pick up an in death novel. Murder, mayhem, sarcasm, and of course, Peabody clomping around in her pink cowboy boots.

While Eve starts the book out with her usual police procedural investigation of a murder, this one was very calm and focused more on the relationship of Eve and Roarke and the humor with Peabody. Even Gallahad had decent page time in this one. Book 46, these characters are like home and I love every single minute of it. My only question is does Nora/JD have the answers to unsolved mysteries in her will? Who is the candy thief??

I love this series and J.D. Robb so much. I of course love the world she's built, adore every single character in it, and the stories are so well crafted. I also love how utterly bingeable the books are. It's so easy to just read through one or even two because they're not just easy reads but also because each one leaves you wanting to reach for the next. I particularly enjoyed this one. because of the fun flare for the dramatic. The life imitating art idea is such a fun one and it was really cool to see how it played out in this book. I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out! I'm dying to get my hands on it!

Loved the book based case but there was a lot of mention of women’s bodies in an unhealthy way. A hyper fixation on skinny and anything over 110 being super awful and unhealthy. It happened like three times and it was icky. It pulled me from the story. But the case outside of that was magic and this could have been five stars for me without all the toxic weight talk.

I downloaded this not realizing it was an older book. I have already read it and loved it. I love all the Eve and Roarke books. They are all a 5 for me.

Picking up where the previous book ended, Eve Dallas finds herself and her squad investigating the seemingly random death of an aspiring Broadway actress. Soon they realize that there is a serial killer acting out the plots of mystery books. Will Eve and her crew stop the killer before the next victim runs out of time?

I loved the fast-paced tempo of the book.

Another tale about Dallas and her co-workers and her special husband. Read, read.

The thrill of Eve and Roarke may be over. The books are simply becoming too formulaic. The setting for the murder may have been new, but little else was. The zing is simply gone. Everyone central to the main characters has had their own “story” so (blasphemy here) perhaps it is time to put this series to bed. I remember eagerly waiting for the next Eve/Roarke book to be released. Now it feels like a chore to read them.
