Excellent. In Death books are my favorites and this doesn’t disappoint. All the favorite characters are here and they continue to evolve. Interesting plot.

This installment of the series definitely kept me guessing. The real life acting out of an author’s novels brought such an interesting layer to the book. I am as in awe of Eve Dallas as a reader as the other characters in the book always are of her. She is such a great lead character, and I can’t wait to keep seeing where her journey takes her.

On a snowy February evening, Eve is the first one home and is just settling in by the fire with a glass of wine when she is called out. A young actress has been murdered while watching an old movie with a friend. Eve, Peabody and McNabb all converge on the theater to begin their investigation of the death of Chantal Rylan. But thing aren't adding up. Chantal doesn't have any enemies. She was pretty and popular, friendly and kind. There are no jealous lovers. No jealous rivals for parts. But the crime isn't random. It was too carefully planned and too well executed.
Then Eve's friend reporter Nadine brings in a lead in the person of author Blaine DeLano who has written a series of books whose crimes are seemingly being acted out by the killer. Chantal's death is from the second book. Eve finds that her guys recently investigated the death of a young sex worker whose death mirrored the crime in DeLano's first book. Eve hasn't read the books. She's more of a vid girl. But Roarke has them all in his wonderful home library since he's one of the minority who still reads print books.
Some research leads Eve to a deranged fan of DeLano's work who goes crazy after DeLano sends back the fan's opus unread. The fan is determined to rewrite DeLano's books so that evil triumphs. Eve and her people need to do investigating to discover the identity of the fan and to track the fan down before the crime in the third book becomes real. The third crime takes Eve deep into the club scene with drugs and rock and roll. Nadine's new boyfriend is a famous musician. Well, famous to everyone but Eve whose narrow focus doesn't include rock stars.
I love this series. I like the relationships Eve has built through this series. I love her relationship with Roarke which is one of the most wonderful in all romantic suspense books. They complete each other and make each other a better, stronger person. I like the dialog which is crisp and witty. Despite being at book 46, this series is still fresh and engaging. I can't wait for the next episode.

Not one of the best in the series, but still lots of fun for those of us who are fans. I read this back when it came out and was surprised to see this wish granted so many years later.

The latest in this long running series has Eve and Peabody working a string of murders based on a mystery series. They get the major clue thanks to the writer coming forward when she noticed that the circumstances of the latest killing matched a scene in her book. They quickly realize that the killer may be someone that has reached out to the author and may eventually go after her. With an idea of who may be the next victim Eve has a chance to stop the crime before it happens. The killer is caught in the end and the book comes to it usual good conclusion. Another good entertaining read in this series.

I am a big JD Robb fan and I just finished a reread of Dark in Death. As I remembered, it was a great book.

Can you rewrite life? And then walk away, sliding back into the present? I listened to this as always, as soon as it was available on audible. Just finished the ebook, honestly. It had been awhile since I delved into this whirlwind of insanity. Excellent listen and read, join the “Dallas circle” and find the answers.

Real Rating: 3.5* of five
This one was fun for me. I'm a Hitchcock fan, (re?)discovering Roarke is too made me like him more...not that I dislike him, just kinda not as impressed as everyone else seems to be...and the Author Nora stand-in here, Blaine DeLano, was entertaining as well. The plot resolved itself pretty much on autopilot. That did not seem bad to me, as it meant Eve did less kickassery and more homebodying.
Don't start here; starting in the earlier series-40s, say #40 itself (<i>Obsession In Death</i>) is better. I will note that the endless cycle of violence against women wears me down.

Well thought out police procedural. Only my second book by this author so I’m wondering if she ever has a case that is not related to serial killers. Having two homicide detectives in the family I understand that not every case is news worthy.

This series has long been one of my favorites and "Dark in Death" is a great installment. Starting with a murder timed to the shower scene in Psycho, this book follows Eve Dallas as she seeks a killer imitating murders in popular books. Eve's Scooby Gang is in full force and this installment does not have the angst of some other entries in the series. An enjoyable read.
4 stars. Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of this book. These opinions are my own,

All I could the whole time reading this is that Robb/Roberts is hoping for someone to re-enact one of her books. Now obviously that’s not true cause then real people die but it kept coming up.
Wasn’t a fan of this one. Definitely completely forgettable within a few days.

Thank you St. Martin's Press for the ARC!
As I’ve started to dive into Robb’s backlist, I’ve gathered that the crimes are all very unique and creative. This one started out with quite the murder/setting and in a weird way I'm excited to see what other starts to the books that Robb comes up with!
Dark in Death had more humor than the others that I’ve read so far and I loved it! There’s always good banter between Eve and Rourke/Peabody but this one just made me laugh more.
I liked that this book wasn’t overly dramatic or forced, it was a good cozy procedural where you know where things are going so you can just enjoy the ride instead of feeling anxious the whole time. I really enjoyed this one!

Dark in Death by J. D. Robb
Dark in Death by J.D. Robb (aka Nora Roberts), Is a mystery/suspense novel that will keep you guessing. This is the first “In Death” novel I have read and is one of many. It is #46 in a collection of fifty-eight with two more on the way! The series follows Detective Eve Dallas and her husband Roarke in numerous mysteries.
Despite not having read previous books in the series, the story and characters were easy to follow and enjoyable. I look forward to reading more of these thrilling novels. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

You know those days when you do something and then feel like a complete idiot? Well, it was a holiday weekend and I received an email from NetGalley offering two JD Robb books to review. I eagerly accepted, only to realize I had already read and owned both copies… in ebook and hardcover. Talk about embarrassing!
But I did realize that I had never actually reviewed either of them, so it wasn’t a total idiot moment, thankfully!
I had extremely high hopes for “Dark in Death,” combining two of my favorite things – Hitchcock and JD Robb. While it didn’t quite meet my lofty expectations, I did enjoy the solid entertainment of a police procedural.
I particularly loved seeing the characters grow and change over time. It was interesting to revisit them and see how much they had evolved. Despite my initial rating, I eventually adjusted it upward as I gained new perspectives.
I initially gave this book a B, but upon revisiting it years later, I bumped it up. I guess good things really do come with age, including my taste in books!
** my blog review will post on Wednesday

Dark in Death promotes the power of books and their intent to inform and plot so realistically that others can copy their actions and dream on. The detective work that uncovers the perpetrator"s viewpoint and reasons is superb making this novel a jewel.

This is my first foray into Detective Eva Dallas’ world. While I have read quite a few FMC mystery and suspense stories, the setting of this series was unique for me. It strongly reminded me of the movie, The Fifth Element. The descriptions of the physical environment seemed “current day”, yet the details of the characters’ wardrobes and their vernacular indicated otherwise. I did find the general parlance difficult to follow. But tracking down a killer is the same whether in the present or in the future.
I was disappointed that the villain was apprehended after only 3 murders (out of a potential of 8) since the mystery could have been drawn out. Why do killers always spill their guts once they have been found out???
There is a romantic connection between Eva and Roark but their sexy times seemed out of place.

What an exciting read from the chronicles of Eve Dallas and Rourke, and thank you to NetGalley for granting me a courtesy copy of this book. This installment still has great interplay between Eve and Rourke (love their relationship!), and I really like the interplay with Peabody as well. This was another creative killer from the mind of Robb, with a strange motive but a quirky method to her crimes. I love the way that Dallas reads a room and her ability to backtrack to the origin of a crime. This is the first book I have read in which a detective works to prevent a crime. Fantastic deductive ability, mad intuitive skills, and Rourke's amazing networking (human and computer!) propel this story in order to get ahead of the murderer. It is fast action and high stakes, with great banter and memorable characters. A series that I will be continuing! And another book that you have to clear time for because you will not want to put it down until the story is complete!

I feel the premise of this book is probably a fear for many mystery/thriller authors. What if a "fan" decides to recreate the horrors they've written about?
This book delves into that with the murderer recreating an author's series because she rejected her book. I also enjoyed the glimpses of healthy fna interactions with Santiago being a fan of the author and Feeny being a fan of Jake Kincaid, a new character I already love.
This is a great addition to the series, but also one I feel anyone can pick up!

First off a big thank you to the the publisher as well as to the author, because this series is my all time favorite series to read or even do a re read of , and this is my first time doing a read this book but it won't be the last time, because I never get tired of reading the In Death Books, and this one I especially loves because it mentioned Hitchcock and his movies in it and thanks to my dad I grew up watching some of them . So reading about them brought back memories of watching them with my dad. I especially loved how j.D.Robb used the idea the of a killer who based their victims on the victims in books and she did it in a much better way . This book was packed with nonstop action from the start and it even had me smile and laugh at times as well.

Who doesn't love a visit with Eve Dallas and Roarke? This is book 46 of the In Death series by J.D. Robb (aka Nora Roberts). It's such a good, long-running police procedural with mystery and romance. I enjoy every new title.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a digital copy. All opinions are my own.
