I am a big fan of this series and the author and I have read all the books in the series. This story is about Max, who is a hockey player than previously took time off to take care of his ill wife. His wife has now died and he is very lost and lonely. Enter Kendra, who he meets at a wedding and who is close with members of his team. She does not live locally so he think she is the perfect sex partner and both won't want anything more. Until one of them does and it kinda blows up in his face.

I have loved the other books but this one was not my favorite. Its tone was very different from the others and I fet it was too much first person with lots of I's and me's. It was not fun like the other stories and Max is a very heavy character. A major issue is that we never hear from Kendra, its all Max all the time and well Kendra's voice was desparatey needed.

I went back and forth with this book, I did enjoy to read about the other characters, I always enjoy that part. I do agree that Max had to move on with his life, do not get me wrong on that, however every now and then, he would think something negative about his wife that had died and that part bugged me, I understand that this was so he can feel something towards Kendra, but I did not like that part, he could have just fell in love with Kendra, and appreciated her for herself, not the comparison. I also, I really did not care for Kendra, I did not get their relationship at all besides sex. And I am sorry, but that crap about that she did not want a relationship at first, yeah right, she went after him, full force. However, I will still continue to read about the next player.

I could not put this book down, I lost a few hours of sleep just to finish it all in one day! Who needs sleep when you have a book so well written and the characters pain and heartache are just reaching into your soul and destroying you one sentence at a time, By the time I got to chapter 21, I already cried and used up a half a box of tissues. I hate that he was grieving for so long and so heartbroken and I really wanted him to find love and to love himself in the process. You could not have created a better leading lady for Max, she was perfect for him. I loved this book and the characters are amazing, I wish they were real so I could meet them and hang out with them. Loved that the maypole was mentioned, I just love that place!

Max is grieving the loss of his wife to cancer. He's been out of hockey for the past season He sees a beautiful bridesmaid at a teammate's wedding and feels ready to meet a woman. His main goal is to focus on getting a spot on the team. He's gone into extreme summer training and continues to see the "bridesmaid" as he's enjoyed her company.

It's got a lot if hockey training and a lot of the grieving process as objectives to the story. We get invested in the two main characters because we like them.

The cover model does remind me of Max. Good job.
