This was a totally plausible novel about a southern girl who flees from the control of her father in South Carolina to Harlem and becomes a Cotton Club "Tall, Tan & Terrific" girl before the Great Depression. It went from 'kinda interesting' to HOLY CRAP, I CAN'T PUT IT DOWN.

My only gripes are 1. the protagonist is far to egoist for my liking and 2. the man who broke her heart got her back years later without apology or working hard enough for my liking.

HIGHLY recommended for fans of fun, historical fictional tales.

While this story was a bit more interesting than the multitude of others along the same lines (backwards country girl makes it in the big city), the story itself has been told before. The only difference was the main character's race. This added a new dimension to the novel, which I hadn't seen before in other stories along the same genre. I thought the story was good, but not very memorable.
