In this episode, Grace and Sal go on a mission to New Zealand, and Menchú and Liam go to Spain.
This episode was much better than the first one of the season. It pulled me and I couldn’t stop wondering what would happen next.
A new character was introduced, Hannah, and I can’t wait to see what she’ll do next.
I’m really enjoying this third season and recommend the Bookburners series to anyone that likes fantasy.

The Orb has flared yet again… but it’s showing signs of magical activity in two different locations: the sea off of New Zealand and a small town in Spain. Team Three’s splitting up to deal with the new threat, with Liam and Father Menchú heading to Spain and Sal accompanying Team One around the other side of the world.

There’s so much I want to talk about, but what can I say that’s not a spoiler?

Well, first off: Grace, why do you do this? Last episode I was assuming that she’d somehow been drafted into Team One against her will. But she asked to get transferred! And she’s not talking to Sal? This breaks my heart. I know that Grace is angry at Menchú for being so anti-magic that he won’t look for a cure for Grace, but why is Grace angry at Sal? Sal’s her friend, and she’s being hurt by Grace’s cold shoulder. Reconsider your life choices Grace!

Secondly, the magical encounters this week were both very cool. Sea monsters and werewolves! I found the werewolves in particular interesting given the ways they both follow and don’t follow the werewolf mythology. But between the two, I think the sea monster was more dangerous. Oh, we also briefly got Shah’s point of view during that section. Has that happened before? It’ll be worth watching to see whether she grows into a larger role in the series.

But both of those topics pale in comparison to the third: an increased relevance of Menchú’s backstory. Look, I don’t want to say too much, okay? I’m sure we all remember that creepy “angel” demon thing that destroyed his entire town. Every since I found out about it, I’ve been wanting to learn more. And it looks like this season may deliver. I don’t know if that will be a good thing for our protagonists.

Season three continues to bear full steam ahead!

Firstly, big thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this story in return for an honest review.

Season 3 of this series is really off to an awesome start - this next entry just confirms it. This time, the teams are off to Spain and New Zealand (yay! It's true that we get very excited when someone just remembers we exist :))

I feel like we're really starting to move towards something with the arc that was built up in Season 2 - and the story itself was satisfying as more than just a chapter, as well.
