This endearing story is perfection! Tess only wants a gnome, and the surprise that Santa leaves her will endear the story to the reader beyond what I could have imagined as I prepared for her disappointment. The illustrations are inviting and well done in muted colors. I would highly recommend this book.

This is a delightful take on children wanting things for Christmas. In this story , Tess only wants a Gnone, so she can have a friend of her own, that she can play with, and tell secrets too, and have her own special someone.

She doesn't want any toys. She does ask for help for fixing up her doll house for the gnome, though. Her gramma makes her a little quilt and her grandfather makes her a little chair, so he can be comfortable.

And the twist, of what she does get, is so logical, and so delightful, I won't spoil it for you. Truly could become a favorite book for children of all ages.

This is a cute story about a young girl who only wants one thing for Christmas. She wants a gnome, a real life gnome. She wants a friend that she can do everything with and tell everything too. Her grandparents help her by building a miniature /dollhouse, gnome-sized furniture, a little quilt and clothes so the gnome will have his own space and things. When Christmas morning arrives, Tess runs into the room to see her gnome, but instead she gets a surprise. What a great story to read to children who are expecting to get certain things from Santa. You may not get exactly what you asked for, but it may still be what you wanted or needed. The illustrations are wonderful. They are bright, colourful and cute to look at. A definite book to add to a family holiday library.

There is so much to love about this book! The protagonist, Tess, wants a real-life gnome for Christmas. Her grandparents help her by building a miniature dwelling with gnome-sized furniture and knitting outfits to welcome the gnome. When Christmas comes, Tess wakes up to encounter a surprise. I thought I would be heartbroken, but the end is delightful.
