I'm a sucker for a BFF to more story and I really liked the synopsis here.

I liked Braylen and Fynn well enough. They're both smart and hard working and have a cute banter between them that comes from them knowing each other for so long. There are a lot of characters, but Katy and Randy are the only other set worth mentioning {besides Braylen's Mom, but she was amazing and deserved more time} and it felt like both of them were just on the page to serve a purpose. We didn't get more than surface information on either.

Plot wise, it was exactly what I expected. I liked that the entire book was over one {maybe} 12 hour period. The downside to that is that everything felt rushed and I never really saw the chemistry manifest between Braylen and Fynn. The grand gesture was sweet, but I would have liked a bit more from the ending.

Overall, it was really quick read and I'm definitely intrigued to see the next one. If for nothing more than to find out what Zoey's plan was.

Please note: I received a copy of LOVE IN THE FRIEND ZONE via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to the publisher and author.

LOVE IN THE FRIEND ZONE gets 5 stars and here is why:

LOVE IN THE FRIEND ZONE is a best friends to lovers story and I’m a sucker for unrequited love. The theme makes for a great YA novel because there is so much you can work with and Molly E. Lee delivers.

I work with teens and I can honestly say, Ms. Lee has captured the quintessential sassy and snarky voice of a teenager and all the angst they go through in high school. The main and supporting characters are relatable, even if they might be a bit cliché. Sort of like THE BREAKFAST CLUB – you know in a high school setting, there’s going to be the vapid popular girl, the jock, the nerdy-but-doesn’t-know-she’s-beautiful girl, the hot guy BFF, etc.

What I loved about this story is that Braylen is a strong heroine. She’s going places and has a plan – Northwestern University to study journalism and hopes her BFF will attend with her. She’s been in love forever with her BFF, Fynn, a talented photographer. But Fynn has his head stuck in the clouds over Katy, the popular girl, rather than grounded back on earth with his one true love, Bray, because he is completely clueless that he loves her as much as she loves him. Typical teen guy can't look beyond a nice rack to see what’s right in front of him. (I say this because Katy “Big Boobs” Evans is her nickname in the story and Bray indicates that it might be a factor in Fynn’s pursuit of her). Everyone in the story sees what Fynn can’t see, that Bray and Fynn belong together, and the story takes place in a twenty-four hour period at a party after everyone graduates high school.

My one wish with this story is that Ms. Lee spent a little more time developing Fynn’s character when he finally makes the decision to be with Bray. It’s not until a hilariously written mishap happens and the two main characters mistakenly hook-up, that we see how Fynn might feel about Bray, but I felt that the ending was rushed in this regard. Or maybe, I just didn’t want the story to end!

LOVE IN THE FRIEND ZONE is a quick read. The pacing is fabulous, the characters relatable, the dialogue realistic as well as funny, and the sexual chemistry is off the charts. **fans herself** I can’t wait to read more from Ms. Lee and find out what happens to Zoey and Gordon. You just know there is a great story waiting in the wings to be told! Highly recommend.

I love unrequited best friend books. I'm a sucker for them. Maybe its because almost all my BFF have been male? I don't know. But they are my favourite type of book and when you find one thats a YA you know its going to be so sweet.

This was my first read by Molly so I had no expectations at all. I liked her writing style, I felt like I was there at the party and loved how the book was wrote over one night, so it felt more like real time. The characters were all relatable. There was the cliche characters and those who I could imagine being my friends or even friends of my daughters at school.

Braylen is amazing. I loved her! She has such a fun personality, but she is also an amazing friend to Fynn. I get why she tried to do everything she could to make him happy, even if it effected her happiness (Hmm, think I've been there at some point myself in my youth - can't say it ended like it did for Braylen and Fynn though!!). Fynn is your stereo typical blind boy. He just doesn't see what's right in front of his face and as the book goes on you want to slap him (Like his friends do in many ways) for not seeing what everyone else does.

This book has a great HEA but best of all is that there are more books in the series. I want to know what Zoey did as payback to Gordon so will be reading the next book when its released! I give Love In The Friend Zone a solid 4 stars, what a great YA romance!

Love in the Friend Zone was a cute story. I was attracted to it when I was looking for a more light-hearted and fun book. This one definitely fit the bill. It reminded me of the movie Can't Hardly Wait with some modifications. Braylen and Fynn were adorable together. Their friendship was rock solid, but you could tell there was more lingering under the surface for both of them. Yes, they each make some choices that are a bit frustrating, but I was able to cut them some slack and have a little extra patience given their age. I will definitely be reading the next book in this series, and I also very much hope that Lennon and Jade will get their own story.

This book was about 3.5 stars for me. The main reason being that I think I liked a couple of the secondary characters more than I liked the main characters :( bummer. Braylen and Fynn were both okay characters but the one thing I would have appreciated would have been if they had more time together throughout the story. I get that the whole point of the story is that they are spending time with other people during the party but I guess if I had known that I might not have requested the novel because I feel like if you're writing a novel about two characters that are going to be a couple, I would like to see them be a couple and not end the story with them saying "ok, we're together now."

Now, one thing I loved about this book was Randy. Wow, like best secondary character ever. I really wanted to know more about him and actually, he's the character who really stole the show in this novel and having a secondary character outshine the main characters is another reason this book wasn't a higher level of stars for me.

I'd love to read and review this book, but I prefer reading books in Mobi format on my Kindle, not PDF. I also don't read on my phone, computer, or tablet. I'd read and review it if the format gets changed!

Reading about storms in teacups is how I approach YA stories, because I sort of remember that nothing seemed more important than a crush returning your feelings and the obsession over college choices.

‘Love in the Friend Zone’ all but practically takes place over the course of an evening during a graduation party, as you’re thrust straight into the climax of a story after being given a rushed run down of Braylen’s unrequited feelings and Fynn’s inability to see that she has always been in front of him.

Within this time period, Bray vacillates between wanting the best for Fynn and struggling with her own desires and jealousy, while Fynn remains oblivious which is the status quo for teenage boys as it seems. All this is well and fairly typical—it’s the hormonal teenage years after all—but I probably would have liked this better if the story focused less on Bray’s overwhelming angst and her inability to be convinced that Fynn would ever want her.

Fynn’s sudden realisation that he’d been in love with her all along was somewhat cringeworthy, since it had to take a confession from Bray to get his head out of his own arse. Granted, I’m not someone who can easily accept sudden switch of the flip type epiphanies particularly when it comes to a party realising he/she had been in love with someone all along because it can, in some cases, get extremely hypocritical.

The events at this particular party did however, got more and more ridiculous, taking a rom-com’s blithe journey to a climax of mistaken identities, stunts and high drama. Expect juvenile jokes, and even more juvenile pranks and a huge load of emotional spikes and valleys…all before Fynn and Bray actually get it together.

If this review is sounding as though there's some impatience on my part, it’s probably me having a hard time admitting I’m quite much older with different tastes now. But if it's not for me personally, teens coming of age would probably relate to this completely.

I have to start by saying I love the opportunities to read and review books and be introduced to new authors. With that being said, not every book will be for me and this one wasn't. I really tried but could not connect with the story or the characters. I didn't care for Braylen, Fynn and definitely not Katy, however, I did like Randy who was one of the side characters. I've read plenty of YA books and loved them, so I'm not sure why I couldn't connect with this one. I felt as if something was missing between the characters. Braylen and Finn had a close friendship; a friendship that has been going on for years, but I didn't feel that connection. Braylen was desperately in love with Fynn which you could tell by her actions and feelings towards what was going on, but when he finally confessed his love for her it didn't feel believable. The story also dragged a lot; it was very slow with really no action going on so maybe that was another reason it was hard to really get into. It's hard to explain; its almost as if there was drama with no real action. The whole story takes place over a day and the next morning; graduation day/graduation night and the next morning and that was not the problem at all but I expected more; more from the characters and more from this story.
