A thrilling read with complex characters and dynamic storylines. The book successfully melds characters stories together while maintaining an exciting and detailed account. Very good read. This is an author I will keep my eyes on

Quite a few women, two murders. All the women have motives for murdering the first victim, the second victim was a bit hazy as to why.

The story started with the murder (almost) and then proceeded from there, unraveling the past, unraveling secrets that were best left hidden and causing damage in a lot of people's lives. One of the women was guilty but fine tuning it was a matter of deduction because the motives were fairly strong in a lot of the cases here.

Gilda launches her own investigation into the crimes as she has done before and this does not bode well for all. Her investigation finds more clues than the conventional one and this helps eventually to close the case. The element of romance was by the way, not contributing so very much to the overall story.

I like the bunch of women as they were all different and with strongly different characters. This certainly added a depth to the story. The storyline naturally involving several women was complicated and convoluted!

This was not a heavy read in the normal mystery murder genre. A very pleasant read.

I don’t know why, but, for some reason, this book just did not cut it for me. Lottery winner Gilda Greco invited her closest friends to a preview dinner at a new Greek restaurant she is silently backing, only to find the chef has also invited a local photographer, Michael Taylor, a real cad, without letting Gilda know. Michael has, for years, irritated all the women she invited, not to mention the fact that he las slept and thrown over more than a couple of them. In this case, Michael winds up dead in a deserted field after the dinner, during a midnight run (Does anyone run at midnight? Perhaps in an area where the sun still shines at that hour, or where it is at least still light.). Of course, the suspects in Michael’s death include the women at the dinner, the chef and even the wait staff. Gilda’s on again/off again lover, Det. Carlo Fantini, is the detective on the case, and is not happy Gilda is getting involved. Still, though Gilda wants to concentrate on her investment, the restaurant, she is pulled right into the mystery and plunges in full throttle to find what exactly happened.

The book was an okay cozy mystery but lacked something for me. I really do not know one particular, definitive thing I did not like. I found the premise of this book, with this particular photographer as well as Gilda’s friends, some of whom had previous history with Michael Taylor, all invited to this dinner, hard to believe. Not sure how big a believer I am of this coincidence, though I guess it lent to and added to the story. I also did not warm to the main character, Gilda. On the plus side, reading and learning something about Ontario was definitely worth the effort. I have not read any other books in this series nor by the author. Perhaps if I had read the other book, I might have enjoyed this one more. I received this from NetGalley to read and review.
