The Boyfriend Swap by Meredith Schorr I picked up this older title with it’s Christmas setting on a whim and am so happy that I did. I adored this whimsical RomCom and will read more by this author. Loved it and strongly recommend it.

THE BOYFRIEND SWAP is sweet and sexy book that will make you smile and not stop reading until you find out how all the characters end up. It’s a charming story about truly finding your perfect match in love, life, and work.

A well written Christmas story by an Author I have not read before. I now want to read more by this Author.

The Proposal and The Holiday are two of my favorite movies ever, so I was really excited to read Christmas romance that was pitched to me as a combination of both. I think this comparison made me expect too much, though. And that’s nothing against the book, I just think I was wanting a Cameron Diaz and Jude Law kind of romance with the Kate Winslet and Jack Black kind of swoon. All things aside, The Boyfriend Swap had many cute moments, and it was fluffy which is always nice. I do wish there had been more Christmas in it, but I am the queen of Hallmark Christmas movies, so…

Robyn’s boyfriend Perry is described as a “D-list wannabe” actor. He’s a guy that Robyn cannot possibly bring home to her family, so she brings home Sidney’s lawyer boy toy of a boyfriend, Will, to get her family off her back. But… this guy ends up being Robyn’s lifelong crush. I really love the friends to lovers trope as well as the fauxmance trope, so I was definitely curious to see a combination of the two and how that would play out. I really liked both of them, particularly Will, and I think they’re very cute together. I enjoyed reading about their growing up years and the awkward memories they shared. They were definitely the highlight of the book for me.

Perry and Sidney, on the other hand, were a train wreck. In the book’s defense, though, I think they were supposed to be. This couple was so poorly mismatched. Perry is an egotistical jerk and Sidney is unlikeable. However, they were both using each other so I didn’t even feel bad for them. Perry was using Sidney for her father’s show business connections as much as she was using him for his irritating personality.

The Boyfriend Swap is funny. I enjoyed the banter between the characters, and I enjoyed the deeper issues I got to watch them all work through. Everyone learned something, and I’d like to think that everyone came away a better person for it.

So why the 3-star rating? Honestly, I think everything was tainted by the storyline. Both Robyn and Sidney were dating men they were embarrassed by. Even worse, Will and Perry were ok with it and went along with the plan to swap boyfriends during the time of year when you should want to be with those you care about. Even worse than that, one of the guys decided to fall in love with a girl who chose to lie to her entire family about who her boyfriend really was because she was ashamed of him. I would not want to be with someone who thought that kind of deception was ok, even if I was the tool they used to lie to their family with and not the actual person they were ashamed of. Does that make sense? But then again, that guy was dating someone just for the physical relationship and not the connection, so perhaps they’re made for each other. It just felt like a very immature storyline to me, and not very romantic.

This is definitely a case of the “it’s not the book, it’s me” syndrome. The writing is great. The humor is great. The characters were all dynamic and well developed. The story was unique and well thought out, it just wasn’t built upon a foundation that I agreed with. I really wish we had just gotten the basic second chance romance between old friends with Will and Robyn, and that Perry and Sidney and the swapping were left out. But I guess that takes away the uniqueness. I would have still eaten it up, though.

All in all, The Boyfriend Swap had enough cute elements and swoons that I am curious about some of Meredith’s other books, and look forward to picking up Blogger Girl sometime soon.

I’ve read quite a few books by Meredith Schorr, and they are always so cute – this one was no exception.

It was a light, fun Christmas read that I started and finished in about a day. The plot was totally unique to me – I haven’t heard of anything like it before. Yes, seems unrealistic – who would actually go through with it?! – but it was fun and quirky nonetheless. I felt myself getting giddy when reading about the couples, and I was even sitting there with a goofy smile.

The characters were all very well-developed, and the dialogue was fluent and realistic. I hate reading stories with forced, fake dialogue that doesn’t even sound like something people would say. I also enjoyed reading about Robyn’s high school years, her huge crush and what she was like when she was younger. I can totally relate to her crush – only mine was on Leonardo DiCaprio and Harry Potter.

I had family in town when I started reading The Boyfriend Swap, and I had a hard time staying away from the story. I wanted to chat about how cute it was and get away to read as much as I could. It’s the perfect, light read when you’re looking to be entertained.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Meredith Schorr works are such a hidden gem. The Boyfriend Swap is just that, a hidden gem, waiting to be discovered. Her cast of characters are the ones you want and need to be friends with, extremely relatable in all aspects of life . I thoroughly enjoyed this story, immediate thought , yes this could definitely a great movie. Her characters always have the wit , humour , and quirkiness, but again all relatable no matter what age you are!
Looking forward to future works of this authoress, because all her books have a secret ingredient that puts you in a great mood regardless if you even experience a few tears in the process

Super cute romantic comedy where Robyn and Sidney swap boyfriends for the holiday and are in for a surprise when they actually like their pretend mates! Cute, funny, romantic.

You’re going to initially determine that the whole premise for this novel is probably a bad idea. It’s right there in the title- probably not an ideal plan to swap your boyfriend with someone else’s? It’s bound to bite someone in the behind at some point you’d think, right? But that’s a little bit why you should want to read this novel. It’s bound to be funny, it’s bound to have some cringe-worthy moments and it’s bound to be just a little bit silly…however you’re also likely to be very curious as to how this is a good plan- for anyone involved!

I actually have to confess that I haven’t read Shorr’s blogger series and this was great because her voice and writing style was fresh, quirky and pretty darn funny and I was completely taken in by her main female characters. I can’t say that I actually liked either of them (Robyn needed more confidence in her choices and Sidney was just a little bit hard!) but I did appreciate both their personalities and loved that each of them had to examine and re-define themselves a little bit by pushing through their mad scheme.

I was utterly entranced by Will (convenient for me that he stuck around for this crazy plan) and actually had a bit of a soft spot for mad Perry. Even their off the wall families were charming and added to the plot.

On the whole the book was charming, romantic and worked out in the end? Or did it? I’m still not entirely sure if it worked out for everyone!

Robyn and Sidney are very different types of young women, and I couldn't believe how any of this would be even remotely believable. But, it wound up being a lot of fun to read, once I got past the notion of why Robyn and Sidney's boyfriends would ever agree to such a Hallmark twist. Actually, it was handled in as real a way as it could be, and once that matter was settled, I just sailed along, enjoying this romantic comedy. Perry and Will almost seems like caricatures at first, but as the switch over the holidays takes place, all the characters warmed up.

What a fun story to read over the holiday season!

Christmas can be stressful for couples trying to impress the family. Why can't they just enjoy the holiday instead of having to impress the in-laws and hope they like them?

Well Robyn and Sidney are dealing with just that. Robyn is dreading bringing Perry home and Sidney doesn't want to deal with all the work talk that will ensue if she brings Will home. What are these girls to do?

Well swap boyfriends, duh? That's the obvious solution right? Probably not for the average girl. LOL

What in the world were these girls thinking? Now Robyn is falling for Will all over again and Sydney's family is falling in love with Perry! How are they going to get out of this mess?

I won't giveaway the ending but I highly recommend grabbing a copy and find out what happens for yourself!

I liked the premise of this book. Even though I’m not an avid romance reader, I do enjoy a good escapist book. This is perfectly set, gave me the escape I needed. I knew it would be entertaining with swaps always going awry. I would recommend this book.

As a holiday and contemporary book, I really enjoyed it. But as a female, a driven one like Sydney, I’m disturbed by the message this book give by the amount of blame and negativity Sydney faced in this book.

this book works so well because the author did an amazing job at the characterization. Robyn and Sydney aren’t the only one fleshed out in this book, their respective boyfriends, parents, and home situation are described really well and in depth, making us sympathize and try to understand the reason they agree to this pact in the first place. The pacing was really nice, it wasn’t too fast or too slow, giving us enough time to learn about the situation and the characters. It definitely have the holiday feels too, both Christmas and Hanukkah, as well as family traditions each family has. What I don’t like about this book is how everyone blames Sydney for everything and I don't think it really sends a positive message.

The Boyfriend Swap is a really entertaining escapism fun read. The two main female characters Robin and Sydney are taking their boyfriends home for Christmas and both are dreading it because of what their parents will think of their chosen partners. So a crazy idea to boyfriend swap is activated! Yes it does sound like a totally crazy idea. Pretend that another girl’s man is your man and take them to Christmas dinner with your parents!! Sounds like a perfect recipe for Meredith Schorr fictional fun!

The two girls are quite different. I liked Robin more, but both were great characters. The two boyfriends also are quite different. I think Will makes a pretty good bookish boyfriend, and this was added to by the fact that he was most against the crazy swap idea. Ah, I love these fictional tales that you can live through in the (approx) 330 pages and get delved into their worlds of messes, decisions, embarrassments and fun times, then lift your head up and realise that you are back in your bed and can choose to live on another chapter with Robin and Will, or Sydney and Perry whenever you like. I stayed in fictional world for quite a few nights!

There is romance and Christmas in this book, but the festive talk is low grade, and not too traditional. the romance is there but its more a fun novel with small parts of romance.
One of my favourite lines in this book, and I quoted this to the Author on twitter was:
“Wow. This is just wow. More exciting than when Nathan fell for Hailey in One Tree Hill”.
This doesn’t give anything away, as I won’t say what is so exciting, but I loved One Tree Hill, and I loved what this “excitement” was for.
I have seen other bloggers reviews for this book, and many have mentioned how The Boyfriend Swap would make a great movie, and I have to say I totally agree. If Meredith’s books could be made into films, I would watch them all, and ask my friends to watch them all. But for now at least they are books, so I will ask all my friends and readers to read Meredith’s books. She has a talent for writing brilliant books. I’m looking forward to the next one already.

Traveling With T’s Thoughts:

This is my first Meredith Schorr book and I really thought it was cute.

The Boyfriend Swap was perfect reading for the holidays- it would make a great Hallmark-type movie. Reading this over the holidays helped set aside some of the stress of the holidays.

What I liked:

The cover. So cute! I love Henery Press book covers!

Robyn & Sidney- I loved why they both went for The Boyfriend Swap- it made sense, but I knew it would not be as easy as they had hoped.

I LOVED how Meredith did not end the book how I expected her to. Nicely played, Meredith.

Bottom line: With cute characters, a fun plot, and some lessons wrapped up in Hallmark like sweetness- The Boyfriend Swap has something for everyone- from someone needing a break from holiday madness to a hopeless romantic.

This felt fluffier than I expected and not in a good way.

I loved the premise of this book. Two women, Robyn and Sidney are very different people. Robyn is a music teacher and her boyfriend is an actor. Sidney is a lawyer, as is her boyfriend. The women commiserate over their respective parents' expectations of their boyfriends over the Christmas holiday and Sidney manipulates everyone into going along with a swap of their boyfriends. Sidney expects that her family will ignore or wave off her new boyfriend as not having enough ambition and not being able to discuss law with her father. Robyn, to her dismay, finds that Sidney's lawyer boyfriend is the one person she had a crush on for most of her childhood! Perry (Sidney's pretend boyfriend) captivates her family! And Will, (Robyn's pretend boyfriend and crush) gets along with her family so well! And Robyn understands she has to drop Perry when the Christmas Boyfriend Swap ends as her feelings for Will never really died. By the end, Will and Robyn figure out they were meant to be, Perry enhances his acting career (which was almost non-existent before the swap), and Sidney learns that she needs to change, be less manipulative and let others take the lead.

Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Robyn and Sidney, two hard-working women in their twenties aren't keen on celebrating Christmas/Chrismukkah. When your parents never approve of your boyfriend and spend too much time snooping into your personal life, why would you be excited for the upcoming festivities? Over too much wine (is there such a thing?), a mutual friend suggests The Boyfriend Swap.

In theory, the suggestion is fantastic - Robyn's parents will stop criticising her choices in dating struggling artists; Sidney's parents will stop prying into her private love life. In practice, The Boyfriend Swap is more complicated than either expected.

When Sidney's boyfriend happens to be Will, Robyn's old long-term high school crush and Sidney's parents fall in love with Perry, the D-List celebrity, this brilliant plan of swapping boyfriends becomes harder to handle. Poor Robyn spends almost the entire festive season being mortified by the stories her parents share regarding their daughter's obsession with Will, who finds it quite humorous. Somehow, Perry manages to utilise his talents and impress Sidney's upper-class family.

The Boyfriend Swap is humorous and perfect for reading over the holiday season! It had a good mixture of drama whilst still remaining very much light-hearted and every character was written unique. Meredith Schorr wrote a very good romantic comedy - it is so good, it would make a perfect on-screen adaptation. I haven't read anything by Schorr until The Boyfriend Swap, but it won't be my last, that's for certain!

Robyn Lane is a music teacher who, along with her roommate, Anne Marie, is having a girls' night out wine party. Asked to attend is Anne Marie's boss, Sidney Bellows, a driven attorney who needs to get away from her office and an annoying co-worker for awhile.

Both women are dreading the coming Christmas festivities with their families. Robyn's parents hate anyone she's interested in - laid back, artistic types; and Sidney's father, also an attorney and head of the firm she works for, lives, eats and breathes law. Her current boyfriend is also an attorney, but Sidney doesn't want to subject him to her father, because she knows it will be all work and no fun.

After imbibing a few too many, Sidney comes up with a foolproof plan: What if, just for a few days, they swap boyfriends to fool their parents? Robyn can bring Sidney's boyfriend Will, and Sidney can bring Perry, Robyn's actor boyfriend - it's perfect. While Robyn balks at first, Sidney is used to getting her way - after all, she's been formally trained just for that.

When Robyn agrees to the exchange, the next step is to have everyone meet each other and propose the plan to Will and Perry. Robyn's surprised when she recognizes Will as someone she grew up with and had a crush on in high school; and Sidney, seeing Perry, thinks he's the most gorgeous man she's ever seen. While Perry is willing (thinking he can hone his acting skills), Will is harder to convince, until he "overhears" a staged conversation Sidney is supposedly having with her father.

With everything in place, it all seems like it's going swimmingly. Robyn's parents are glad to have Will back into the fold, and unfortunately for Robyn, mention her girlhood crush...which she still has, unbeknownst to Will.

Sidney, on the other hand, is stunned when she realizes that her parents absolutely love Perry. Her firm's specialty is entertainment law, and her father offers to help him; her mother thinks he's charming. Sidney, however, isn't pleased by the fact that Perry isn't 'sticking to the script' and unhappily begins to realize this is one situation she's losing control of, which angers her.

What ensues is a comedy of errors while the two women try to get through their time at home and return to their former lives. But what they're soon figuring out is that going back to the way things were before isn't as easy as they thought it would be; and maybe they don't want to do so after all...

On the one hand, I thought this book was pretty cute. It's a nice semi-sweet tale of what we think we want and discover it's not what we really want at all. Although I felt that Sidney's transformation was much greater than Robyn's - Sidney's had a lot to do with wanting a piece of her own life to remain just that, while Robyn's appeared to be that she had been stuck in an eternal one-sided relationship for years; I did think that having truthful conversations with their respective sets of parents might have been in order for some time coming.

However, I also felt it was perfect for a quick Christmas feel-good read; and quite a nice story. Recommended if you need something to cozy up to on a cold winter evening.

You don't even have to read the synopsis to know this is going to be crazy, right?! If you haven't read it yet, the quick rundown is basically that both Robyn and Sidney do not want to deal with the pressures of taking their boyfriends home for Christmas.

We've all been there. Nobody really wants to deal with nagging parents, friends, brothers, or sisters. Robyn and Sidney are just thinking ahead! On a whim, and while drunk might I add, they come up with this plan. As the girls mull it over, the plan actually sounds better and better.

The poop is going to hit the fan! I don't play when I talk about poop around here. I can't since I have five dogs. Sadly, it's a part of life. I was hoping that Robyn and Sidney were going to get away with this plan without any scars. Without spoilers, let me just say, this character arc is fun! The popcorn type, and a bit of the cringe type too.

The characters are hilarious and fun to read about. Sidney wasn't my favorite but she grew on me. There were moments when I liked her a LOT less, but she's a character that is interesting, and crazy, but not in the average way. So, I enjoyed her portions of the story.

But, I found that I couldn't wait for Robyn's side. Since this is divided into the two girl's stories, the chapters are whichever gal is narrating at the time. Robyn's just felt more to me. More real, more lively, more everything. With Sidney, I was cringing half the time, even when there wasn't a character arc!

In short, this is a really good, cute read. It's only my second of Meredith Schorr's and I can definitely see why everyone talks about her books! Love this and I can't wait to get my hands on more.

I found this to be such a fun read where an overachieving attorney, Sidney and an elementary school music teacher, Robyn come up with a scheme regarding the Christmas holidays. Robyn, the music teacher, is dating Perry who is a narcissistic pretty boy who her parents are not that crazy about and she's kind of tired of explaining why he's still an aspiring actor. While Sidney is dating Will, another attorney who would be the perfect partner for anyone's daughter but she has this fear that if she takes him home to meet her family things will become complicated and she's not ready for that yet. So Sidney comes up with the boyfriend swap, she approaches Robyn with this plan and after a lot of thought and convincing their boyfriends that this would be for just a few days they decide to go through with this crazy idea.
It's hilarious, they each learn a valuable lesson regarding themselves, and it's one holiday that they'll never forget.
I would like the thank the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an e-galley for my unbiased review.
