Thank you Netgalley for the ARC! Fast read that was a bit predictable. It kept my interest and I finished it in two days. I rate it a 3.2.

Great story, thrilling plot that I could not put down. Well worth a read, and would recommend to others.

This is my first book by this author and I have to say I really rather enjoyed it but then again anyone who knows me knows I love a psychological thriller and this is definitely that. Set in Ireland we run the whole gamut of emotions, fear, anger not to mention jealousy.

I always enjoy a book more when I have a character to loathe and in #TheAccident I was spoilt for choice there's Tara, Ryan not to mention Christine. Tara appeared to have it all, a new home, married life and a new baby to look forward to but was prepared to risk it all by having a last fling with her ex. I did think it was a little cliched a fling with the builder. but what happens next changed that.

One punch can be a dangerous thing this I know as my youngest son was punched and he banged his head on a kerb and this caused him to have trauma induced epilepsy. So reading this was a little close to home but that made me able to understand where this book was coming from. It's an easy book to recommend.

I read this quite some time ago apologies for the late review.
Read for an honest review. Thanks to the author S.D. Monaghan, #Netgalley and Bookouture

I enjoyed this book so much I read it completely in one setting. There were some aspects I didn’t love and felt was a bit unrealistic, but I was kept guessing as to what would happen next.

David punches Ryan, thereby changing his own life, as well as Tara's. These three all have issues but now Tara and David must figure out what to do next. A good read.

This book was pretty predictable, but the journey to get to the ending wasn't bad. It was a solid thriller overall, though I did want a bit more from it.

I’ve enjoyed other books by this author, so I’m not sure why I didn’t enjoy this one as much as past stories. Intriguing premise, but for some reason the characters didn’t appeal to me and I found myself not really caring what happened to them.

The Accident by S. D. Monaghan now I enjoyed this book and grabbed me right from the beginning and did not disappoint. It had lots of Twists and Turns and a good story line. I will read more of Sean's books in the future.

Big thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for a copy of this book to read and review

What an interesting read. David catches his wife cheating on him, and accidentally causes the death of the contractor. Or was it an accident. The book was well written, fast paced and just clearly proved how quickly an accident can happen, and how it can destroy your life.... Well done!

I wasn't a big fan of this book. I couldn't connect with the story or find any enthusiasm to keep reading it.

Some of the descriptions were a tab off....

Not really a book for me, sad to say!

Cover great though!

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the Publisher, Bookouture, for this review copy given in exchange for an honest review.

My first book by this author and I will definitely be on the lookout for more. The story begins with the David and Tara. They are married and are about to move into their dream home which they are having built. Tara has everything she could want, but she still gets tempted by one last fling with the builder who is also her ex, Ryan. When David finds out about it he confronts Ryan. Ryan isn’t expecting the punch that David throws and falls over the balcony and onto the patio, three floors below. From that moment, David’s life changes forever. Can he cope with knowing what he did, and can he forgive Tara?

This book starts with a big OMG! It goes straight into the action with David finding out about his wife’s infidelity and doesn’t let up from there. The main plot of the story where David confronts Ryan is mesmerising and I felt like I was holding my breath the entire time. You’d think it couldn’t get any better than that, but it does! I won’t reveal any spoilers, but I did shout ‘Oh My God’ out loud at several points of the book!

The characters themselves aren’t very likeable, but I suppose that’s the whole point. I have to admit though, some did redeem themselves by the end of the book. There are lots of twists and turns throughout this story and it was all very cleverly written. I listened to the book on audio and I have to admit I found myself just stopping whatever I was doing, just to devote my attention to it.

I can’t wait for the author’s next book, and if this book is anything to go by, it will be great! Highly recommended.

I enjoyed this story, I did guess the ending before it was revealed but that didn’t really dampen the read.

A great psychological thriller/ mystery novel involving Tara and David, a married couple. Another man is involved and here comes the plot that makes you want to know what's next.

Tara and David are typical “Hollywooders” in that appearances are everything. What looks flashy and successful from the outside is all actually a bit of a façade. Having built a new home they can barely afford, the wheels of the couple’s happy little marriage cart are only one revolution away from falling off completely. Tara’s art isn’t selling the way it used to, David is insecure in his hold on his pretty young wife (his former student) and an unexpected pregnancy is adding emotional weight to a relationship that would never have been called rock solid, even at the romantic beginning.

Building supervisor Ryan was once the romantic spark in Tara’s eye and as one last hurrah before motherhood and domestic servitude, Tara and Ryan give it a red hot go upstairs in the unfinished house. In the inevitable post coital confrontation, David’s cuckholded ire takes unexpected force and Ryan plummets a floor down to the concrete below. David and Tara now need to stop with the lies and join together truly as a team, or neither one of them will be making it through this horror intact.

What is lacking in the reading of this book is the wish to barrack the characters on and see them through. The two leads in THE ACCIDENT have very little chemistry, which makes the lengths they are prepared to go to in order to coverup a death largely self serving – this couple were not a likeable pair to begin with. It is refreshing however to read a domestic thriller from the point of view of the husband (too), with the catalyst for drama stemming from his choices, and not by those of his wife.

THE ACCIDENT, as a relationship tale of choice and consequence, had a fair amount of scope straight from its fast moving beginning. All the ingredients were there for a psychological thriller, condensed to a fairly small stage and played out upon the complicated landscape of the modern marriage. This novel does not quite reach the mark in fulfilling its early promise, though the musings of the husband upon how he got himself into his predicament are quite insightful and add much to the novel’s melancholic and regretful air. There is more than a little bit of “reap what ye sow” in THE ACCIDENT so it may be intentional that we don’t hold much sympathy for David and Tara. We just might however be curious to see who is left standing at the end.

THE ACCIDENT by S. D. Monaghan is what I would classify as a psychological drama about a husband and wife dealing with the aftermath of an affair… and the cover up of murder.

A married couple Tara, pregnant with first child and David are in the process of moving into their new home. Everything is perfect…or should be but Tara is tempted by one last fling with her ex, Ryan.

David is distressed when he discovers his pregnant wife with another man-her ex! David confronts the man after his wife drives away, a fight ensues and David pushes the man off the balcony and watches him fall to his death. But the next morning Ryan’s body is missing.

One mistake that will change their lives forever.

How would you react?

Monahan's writing is enjoyable, and entertaining but I found it a little too predictable. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

Many thanks to Bookouture via Netgalley for my copy.
