Year One by Nora Roberts is a fantastic read. Ive read many titles by this author, the three sisters being a personal favourite. I dont want to spoil it by giving too many details away but definitely recommend this book if you like faeries and witches. Cannot wait to read/fingers crossed a second
installment. *****

This book is ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT
The first in a new trilogy takes a much deeper , darker route than The Author's previous books incorporating magic and 'others' , love and sacrifice , and good and evil .

The 'Doom' was released upon the World in Scotland on New Years Eve ............ within weeks over 5 billion people are dead .
Of those who found themselves immune some have been changed , those with minor magic/psychic abilities find their gifts vastly increased , others are now able to shape-shift and become known as the 'Uncanny' .
Across the World governments collapse , Society reverts to survival of the fittest .
People start to leave the dangers of the Cities and try to find safe havens where like minded survivors of all types can live together in relative Peace and Hope .
But there are some Evangelists determined to wipe out those they determine as not solely human , and with the aid of murderous Raiders seek out communities .......... they care not who lives or dies .
Sacrifices are made by the few in order that the many can survive .
During this turbulent time a child is born ........ conceived on New Years eve in love and magic .
She must remain hidden and protected , taught magical and survival skills..........she MUST survive in order to take up the reins of her per-ordained destiny ......................

I have tried not to reveal too much of the plot and hope what I have written does not reveal any spoilers .
This is a book that reaches the very soul , it makes you weep at the evil in the world but makes you believe in goodness at the sacrifice others make to ensure that you might live .
Having read most of the Author's published books this one might just be the best she has written - I cannot wait for the next book in the series .

Oh, Nora, why has it taken you so long to write post-apocalyptic fiction?
I absolutely loved this book and devoured it in 2 days. Shades of The Road, The Postman and The Gone series, with magic thrown in. This was right up my street!
Can't wait for the next one.
