An interesting book - part marriage memoir for the author; part true-crime for the vanished subject. Good premise, well executed.

While it was difficult for me to initially adjust to the part memoir, part biography format, I came to see the intelligence in the weaving of the two women's stories. Laura Smith, the author and memoir portion, became obsessed with the life of also author, Barbara Follet, a young woman who wasn't heard from since 1939. Laura weaves her life stories with Barbara's in alternative chapters - both questioning marriage, duty, and wanderlust.

While it was difficult to adjust to the part memoir, part biography format, I appreciated each story individually as well as how they blended together.
