Utterly brilliant.
From start to finish, as always, I was totally gripped and read in one sitting.
I will never get bored with Wilkinson's books. She's a fabulous writer.
Loved it and will be recommending it to the whole world!

Sarah's six year old daughter, Olivia Adams, disappeared when she was playing in her back garden. Thirteen years later, Sarah is remarried and has another baby. When out of the blue, a girl walks into Sarah's place of work, and calls Sarah mum. But is the girl an imposter or is she the real Olivia?

I thought the story was intriguing but underwhelming nonetheless. Even though there was a big reveal at the end, you saw it coming halfway through the book.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Kerry Wilkinson for an ARC of "The Girl Who Came Back" in exchange of an honest review.

Olivia has been missing for 13 years. Now she is back. And the mystery of her disappearance is back with her.

I have quite enjoyed this read. Mostly because there has been an inner logical bone backing all that was happening! I do not particularly like the random reasonings or killers thrown my way without any clues or the mystery being built, so I am happy to report that there is quite solid motive structure behind this novel! And even a few surprises thrown, as the author is capable of putting some red herrings in the cloth of well-looking clues. That also works because of an un/reliable narrator (whom you know might have some secrets of their own, but who also feels sincere! Well done).

The novel also covers the topic of sexual assualt (trigger warning, although there are no actual descriptions) and physical violence.
And here also lies my reason for 3 stars - while I absolutely despise any kind of attack,, I also strongly believe in the legal answer to these attacks. Crime should not be justifiable.

And while some actions are reasonable because of the character-building, I believe that less drastic methods would work as well from the literary point.

Having said all that - this is one solid mystery novel and the author is obviously talented with her well-thought motive structure and the capability to working her clues to the max.
Many authors could benefit from skills such as these!

The Girl Who Came Back – Kerry Wilkinson

I absolutely love Kerry Wilkinson’s books, I came across him by mistake and its one of the few of my many mistakes that I turned out to be rather pleased with. I love the Jessica Daniels series too, although initially I was reading them in no order whatsoever.

What would you do if your missing six year old comes home? Only now ‘she’s’ nineteen. Olivia Adams originally went missing from her back garden when dad went to use the toilet. In true media fashion it was implied that he left her alone much longer, in fact they said that he left her alone to watch the football. The fallout from her disappearance broke the family, Dan and Sarah ultimately they divorced with mum Sarah remarrying having a family and Dan hits rock bottom.

Fast forward thirteen years and a young woman named Olivia arrives in Stoneridge claiming to be the missing girl. I found this unbelievable, as did many characters within the book. Her stepbrothers and step uncle are completely disbelieve her and are openly antagonistic both towards and about her.

We also hear from a character named Lily, we hear about her life from the age of twelve whose mother passed away and her father found solutions in the bottom of a bottle up till the present day. This is where the author’s magic begins as we follow the crumbs to the point where the two lives meld together and its bloody good.

I have recommended this and all the other Kerry Wilkinson books to friends, on social media and verbally. If you are looking for someone who writes in a refreshingly honest style Kerry is the guy for you.

Read for an honest review. Thank you Netgalley and Bookoutre Publishers

THE GIRL WHO CAME BACK is a standalone psychological thriller by bestselling author Kerry Wilkinson. This was a fast-paced read that had me hooked right from start to finish. This is the second standalone psychological thriller that I have had the pleasure of reading by this author, having I thoroughly enjoyed reading TWO SISTERS. It definitely won’t be my last. I have lots of catching up to do.

This novel highlights the drama dealing with the return of a missing child, told from the perspective of the child, with her mother and others trying to determine if she is legit.

Thirteen years ago, Olivia Adams went missing. Now she’s back… or is she? Her mother is convinced it’s her but not everyone is sure. But where has this missing girl been?

When six-year-old Olivia Adams disappeared from her back garden, the small community of Stoneridge, a small English village was thrown into turmoil. How could a child vanish into midair?

And if Olivia is not who she says…who is she and why is she doing this?

But there are some people that believe the past should remain as the past and the secrets remain hidden.

The Girl Who Came Back has a strong plot and well-fleshed out characters. Highly recommend for all psychological thriller lovers!

My thanks to Bookouture via Netgalley for my digital copy.

I absolutely love mystery/thrillers books and I have never wanted to get through a book as quick as I did with this one - knowing that there was a big catch and an even bigger plot twist coming up.

Kerry did not disappoint with either one of these and I will most certainly be reading more of Kelly's work in the future!

This was a really good book, but I also felt like I've read it before. I love the premise, and it was entertaining, but nothing to really get excited about in the end.

Mysteries always stress me out and this one was no exception - I knew there was a catch and was dying to know what it was. I thought it was a decent twists but it felt a bit stiff, like the characters other than the main one weren’t really fully developed. Intriguing premise tho.

Judging by the book's premise I thought I would be more interested in it than I actually was. I mean, the main mistery when she appears is whether she is Olivia or whether she is a scammer. I don't get why a DNA test can't be done and everything solved... Guess because then there won't be a book...
But I didn't like or feel any of the characters, and I ended up deciding that -sadly- the book wasn't for me...

Sometimes I read a book and finish it thinking ‘I wish I’d wrote that’ and The Girl Who Came Back is one of those books. I am a fan of Kerry Wilkinson’s Jessica Daniel series (and I really need to get back into it because I am so far behind) and I was excited to read one of his psychological thrillers. Simply for where this story went and how everything ended, it’s probably one of the best psychological thrillers that I have read recently.

The story features a girl returning to the village of Stoneridge where she claims to be the missing girl, Olivia, who vanished when she was 6 years old. As the book opened I felt that everything was quite emotionless. Olivia returns and there wasn’t any great, dramatic, emotional scenes. Everything felt toned down and I was left disappointed at whether the rest of the book would have this muted feeling. However I suppose people react differently and how my family would react to something like this might differ from how someone else’s might but I just wanted more emotion. The plot moves along nicely as we see Olivia meeting her family and old friends and facing those who question whether she really is Olivia. I felt that things stagnated a bit part way through and I wanted things to move on a little bit quicker than they were. That said I enjoyed everything that I was reading, and I was excited and a little bit fearful as the story unfolded and I couldn’t stop thinking about what was to come and which characters I could trust. That feeling of unease is present the whole way through this story and it had me gripped to what I was reading.

As the story progresses there’s plenty of mystery and intrigue, not least when we see chapters featuring another young girl. I had so many different theories running around in my mind and then I was knocked for six with one line and I couldn’t read quick enough to reach the end of the story. As I was reading I wondered just how Kerry was going to end the story, what explanation would be given for everything that had happened up until these final moments and honestly it was just fantastic. I didn’t fully work out what was going to happen, and I was so impressed with how this story ended. There’s so much I want to say about it but the best thing I can say is read this book if you haven’t already. It’s a great exploration of family, friendship, jealousies and what jealousy can drive people to do, and secrets. Most of all secrets. Don’t trust anybody you meet in this story is all I’m saying. Well, they’re not all bad but I’m not naming names. If this is the standard of psychological thriller we can expect from Kerry Wilkinson then I’m excited to read more from him and have his other thrillers queued up and ready to go. Highly recommended.

I have read each and every Kerry Wilkinson I could get my hands on, and once again this one did not disappoint.
This was another thrilling read, where I felt I knew the answer on every page, just to be proved wrong on the next... Is Olivia the girl that came back? The book had me glued to the end of it, and I can't wait for more by this talented author!!
Very well done!
