I was hoping that this book would redeem the previous one, but it, unfortunately, did not. The series had ended a while ago.

I found that this book was a really easy read and one that brought me into it really quickly. I thought that the adventure was well written and was good as a stand alone book as this is the seventh book in the series. Showing how the family is half mermaid and half human was something in which I thought made this book rather unique and made me interested in the world in which they live in. Showing how Emily's friend is tired of adventures and just wants to relax and that her boyfriend is tired of feeling alone I thought was rather relateable to readers as it showed how friends can drift apart and people even though you care about them sometimes don't always feel it until the person is able to show them and understand why the person is feeling that way. I liked how the book also showed how the people behind the falls were more advanced in the way that they were able to communicate with nature and able to understand the land more than those who were more advanced in technology. By also having the prophecy later found by a man's wife who died and the reason behind the giant and how he had to save the island was something I found really sweet and upon meeting the giant really felt for the character even though he was only in it at the ending.

The only thing about Emily Windsnap and the Falls of Forgotten Island that I personally didn't like was how at times it felt like there wasn't enough of the other characters such as those behind the waterfall and I wish there was more around them as they really interested me and stayed somewhat a mystery. I do also think that some of the writing seemed rather young for me but that is just a personal view which still would be great for children.

Overall, I think that this is a great adventure book for children and one that I would recommend. Although this is the first I have read in the series I am no wanting to read the others and see I have missed from the previous books and find a new love for the characters. I would recommend this book to children who are looking for an adventure book which also involves fantasy within it. Also for those who are looking for a new series of books to read. I would read this book again!

Tweens will enjoy this series. This is the 7th book, but each appears to be a standalone story. What kids isn't going to love being a part time mermaid and life two wholly different lives? Fun , fast read.

This was a nostalgia read for me since I first started reading this series when I was in middle school and am now an adult. The series agrd pretty well for me, though there were some plot holes regarding the premise that required suspension of disbelief in absence of sufficient explanation. Like the previous books, the story blends fantasy and high stakes adventure with more mundane middle grade themes, this time navigating conflicts with friends and budding romantic relationships. Overall, an enjoyable read.

This is a really cute adventure of a girl that is a sometimes-mermaid and her friends. An island appears in the middle of the ocean. The inhabitants are in trouble. Emily and her friends try to save the day. This is a good book for all ages but is focused on 9-14 year olds.

This book was so cute. I’d never read any Liz Kessler books before and I didn’t realise this was like book 7 in the series, but it didn’t matter at all. It’s a story about friendship, family, romance and a mysterious adventure involving an ancient prophecy, (I bloody love an ancient prophecy btw) and of course, Mermaids!
I thought it was paced well, and had some struggles and dilemmas in it that were perfect for the target age group, such as letting down your best friend, and being the third, all nicely topped off with some mermaid magic.

I really love this series about Emily Windsnap and her friends. As half human and half Mer-person she has to contend with a lot of issues, but her supportive parents and her close friends from both communities help her solve all the mysteries that seem to come her way. A great series about friendship, being true to yourself and accepting others.

I started this series years ago when one of my nieces fell in love with it. Overall I find the books quick, fun adventures with great overarching themes of friendship and bravery and belonging.

Falls of Forgotten Island was another foray into a great imaginary world. Emily dealt with relatable adolescent issues but with the fantasy element of being half mermaid.

My one drawback was I wish the book wasn't as heavy on the young romance element. I don't really like for middle grade books to have much romance in them, I just feel other elements of a tween's personality and life would be a better focus. But that's more of a personal preference than an actual critique of the book itself.

Before I had requested this book, I did not realize that it was the seventh in this series. After reading it I don’t believe that I have missed anything major by not reading the other six books, but I did not love the story and I had to put it down and try to finish it multiple times.
The MC Emily has the fantastic gift of transforming into a mermaid and having adventures of her own under the sea. That was about the most exciting part of the story as the rest seemed like she was going around picking fights and causing teenager drama with everyone she encountered. The storyline also possessed one of my least favorite tropes- the love triangle. Even though it wasn’t two boys trying to seek Emily’s attention, it was still a triangle because she had to often choose between her boyfriend and her best friend which made the storyline awkward.
Hopefully, this will be the last book in the series as it seemed to wrap up at the end. However, reading other reviews it seems that every book in the series also had a nice wrap-up.
I think that tweenage girls who are seeking adventure might like this story because of the mermaid aspect but would also find the confrontations tedious. I don’t think anyone that’s in the age range of older middle-grade books would like this story. This is not my first middle-grade book as I read them all the time with my own middle-grade children, but I wouldn’t recommend this book to them or to my niece. I apologize that this book just wasn’t for me and that I could not like it. Thank you for allowing me access to the book and for the opportunity to leave this review.
The cover is absolutely stunning and was what drew me in. It’s about the only thing I really didn’t like about the book.

So, I read a lot of middle grade, so I thought I'd try this. But as it turns out, this is not my sort of Middle Grade, and in jumping in 7 books in to the series I had missed a lot of world building and set up that wasn't really filled in over the course of the book. I didn't like the main character - she's a bit too spoilt and self-centred for my liking, and the plot was a bit confusing without any of the background to the series. Still, I can see that this would make a good read for the younger end of the middle grade spectrum, if they like mermaids and fairy tales and have read the rest of the series. It just wasn't really for me. Never mind.

In this seventh outing with Emily Windsnap, Emily's family, her best friend Shona and her boyfriend Aaron are headed to a tropical island for a relaxing vacation. Emily promises Shona, there will be absolutely no adventure, just plenty of fun and relaxation. It doesn't take long for Emily to go off on a sidetrip with Aaron leaving Shona left out. Shona can't resist catching up with the boat taking the others to Forgotten Island and when Emily sees her, she ends up in the water and they get caught up in a terrible current. This takes a lot out of them both, but adventure always seems to find Emily, and before she knows it, she ends up on the other side of a powerful waterfall on a forgotten island no one else can get to. There is a situation that Emily has to help with that upsets both Shona and Aaron. This book has so much angst wrapped up in a short story. There are tested friendships, danger, young love, fantasy, adventure, and mystery. The way these three friends handle all this shows that they are just kids, but sometimes need to step up to make the right decision. This is another great adventure in this series to interest middle grades readers.

The Emily Windsnap books were a huge part of my childhood and I squealed when I got approved for this eARC. I loved it. It had all the aspects of the previous books as well as tackled friendship and relationship drama in the best way.

I didn't like the first book or couldn't get into it... sorry wasn't my cup of tea I shall say! But I tried!

ARC COPY...although this is the first Emily Windsnap I have read, I didn't feel too lost/ Emily explained the details of her mermaid status and the main nemesis is Neptune. I did like the fact and would appeal to mermaid loving kids...it's mermaid story with action, one female mermaid who is a magnet for adventure even on vacation, and the themes of friendship/forgiveness as Emily (plus a surprising character) with her friends during the adventure.
