O.J. Simpson is one of those people who just won't go away, no matter what. From his professional career, to the murder of his wife and her friend, to this bizarre Vegas kidnapping/robbery scheme, he is one of the most bizarre people of our time. I vividly recall sitting in my 6th grade classroom when the verdict in his murder trial was read. The teacher wheeled a TV in on one of those TV carts (remember those?) and let us watch the verdict as it was read live. I watched the infamous Bronco chase live on the news. (I live in the greater LA area, obviously). O.J.'s murder trial was in the background of my childhood and was one of the events that occurred during my younger years that spurred my interest in true crime.

Therefore, I was pretty interested in reading this book. I'd heard bits and pieces about his Las Vegas situation, but it was all so murky and confusing and didn't make much (any?) sense to me. I never really got the full story, but it made me think "this guy will just never go away". I enjoyed reading Room 1203 and discovering the full story behind the latest O.J. drama. The book was a bit dry in parts, but I appreciated that it was written by the lead detective. I wish there was more in the way of what his motivations and thoughts were, but I guess who can really get inside such a psycho's head? I have to wonder if even O.J. knows why O.J. does what he does. Pick this one up if you, too, want to know more about this story.

I've always been interested in the case for OJ Simpson involving the murder of his ex wife Nicole Brown Simpson. I picked this out, simply because it was another true crime story, also involving OJ Simpson. This book was a delight to read and really opens your eyes to the criminal justice system and celebrities that may or may not be criminals. A good read for any fan of crime, but especially for those fans of true crime stories.

3.5 Stars.

Oh man....Robbery Division Law Enforcement....What a complex and frustrating job it must be!

I am not particularly a fan of O. J. Simpson by any means, but DO enjoy true crime....and here's what I found out.

As you might recall, back in 1995, Simpson beat a murder rap for the death of his wife and her friend. In 2007, Orenthal James Simpson committed armed robbery in a Las Vegas hotel and casino named Palace Station, and this time was not so lucky.

ROOM 1203 is a VERY detailed step-by-step police procedural of what happened on that day and how (now retired) Police Detective Andy Caldwell of the Las Vegas Robbery Division handled the case.

The false narrative given by Simpson saying he was just trying to recover his own collectible sports memorabilia....incriminating recorded conversations....interviewing of victims and suspects....the trial & arrests....and even some unethical behavior by fellow officers of Caldwell (unbelievable) are included here.

If you enjoy true crime that is heavy on procedure, provides insight on behavior of criminals, and discloses a few other scary cases along the way, ROOM 1203 is for you.

Somewhat dry, but a very informative and "timely" debut.

Many thanks to WildBlue PRESS and NetGalley for the complimentary ebook in exchange for an honest review.

"Room 1203" is an admirable effort to explain why OJ Simpson was arrested in Las Vegas, and the media explosion surrounding the arrest. It is a first-hand account from a detective on the case, which lends a fascinating insight into the process of investigation, and the particulars of the law. While it does a decent job of tracking the story, "Room 1203" lacks 3 features to make it a must-read: 1.) It doesn't feel as if the author has a strong point of view here, other than OJ's guilt and the need to uphold the law; 2.) The author doesn't try to give the major players clearly defined characterizations. This can make the names slide past your eyes, unrecognized; 3.) The narrative is so point-by-point at times that the progress of the narrative seems to grind to a halt. So, overall, the book is interesting, but not not enough to make it a must-read in the genre of crime nonfiction.

This is an excellent read for anyone who knew anything (how could you not) about OJ Simpson. There were excellent details included that I was not aware of, and now in light of OJ"s parole (ugh), I feel like I know the whole story.

This was a wonderful book about a subject many people would like a full story about.

This is closer to 3.5 than 4.0, but I round up when that choice is not an option. While not as tantalizing as the other OJ Simpson criminal case, and subsequent plethora of books, this was a formidable exploration of the armed robbery case involving Mr. Simpson. I appreciate that this book is written by the lead detective in the case, and as such, the reader gets a glimpse into how a case evolves for the officers working the case, not just the attorneys. There is some new information provided, and some insight not previously disseminated to the general public, but overall, there is no earth-shattering, gotcha moment in this book. Rather, this book does an excellent job laying out the facts of the case, what transpired during each step of the process, and what the outcome was. While not 100% polished, this was a great effort for the author's first published book.

I was glued to the tv during the whole tv trial of oj. It was kind of boring in some places, not too bad, though. This book was just like that. Some stuff that doesn't add to the story but for clarity sake it is good it is in there but made for dry reading. I 3 fed up skipping over some stuff in a few places. Overall, I don't feel I learned anything new and in light of this October he has been granted parole for this very crime, it gave me a little further insight into his mindset and why he might have done this in the first place.
